Some of the WORST live peformances EVER were by Jimmy Page (improvisation or not). In studio=awesome....live=hit and miss. Now, well, I think he'd be the first to admit that he's lost the physical ability to go up and down that guit on par with Beck, Clapton and other peers.

...and yes, I DID SEE HIM/Led Zepplin LIVE in 1973. Also Saw Jeff Beck this year and he is AMAZING! Really at the top of his playing right now. I loved Zepplin but Page has always been overrated

This is basically Jeff Beck. He's the one you here. That's why he stepped back closer to the last part of the video. He felt bad and wanted one of the other great guitar players there to contribute more than playing rhythm. If Jimmy Page was 30 years younger he would have ripped these other guitarists to pieces. Jimmy is old now and has lost most his speed ( in his 60s). Just watch The Song Remains The Same 1973 DVD during the Dazed and Confused part and you will see what I mean. Jimmy would have embarrassed these guys. The others are great but nowhere close to Page in his prime. Not as performers or as studio composers . That’s my opinion.
