I own both, and I guarantee you the 335i is quicker in a straight line, but around a track the M3 dominates. Choose whatever you prefer.

haha thats a if you know how to drive it and b if your racing in a straight line. The e46 m3 would still shit on you on the track. And whatever mods your 3 has probably juice box or chip, you can get something for the M3. You'd be toast on a track.

Its a fact. The 335i slalloms and brakes quicker than the e46 M3. also accelerates quicker. Its just quicker. Gotta love the e46 m3 tho.

Yes but the feel of the M and whole attitude of the car makes it feel so much better than the 335i. Good Tires, plus good pads, super blue brake fluid and any other consumables changed over to performance parts will have the e46 leaving the 3 in the dust. The potential of the M is way more.

No the M3 is 9 Years old. The M3 would last longer over course of a race due to facts you stated. But take them both around a track a few times and the 335i will win. Its just evolution my friend and bmw learn from there m cars and use this in there newer models. I am telling you this as a fact. Whether you believe me or not is up to you.

I understand what your saying, i agree, yes there is evolution im just stubborn before the e46 is my favorite model by far. So im gunna have to stick up for my car. Plus on the track it would come down to a drivers race and considering most people aren't pros it would be pretty neck and neck.

Apart from your overuse of the word 'quicker' in that comment, I agree in a straight line the 335 will edge out the M3. However, slalom, braking, and accelerating depend on the driver. Not marketing hype. You have to realize that figures like that are meant to boost sales and get people to turn in their older models for the new ones. Plain and simple. The 335 was not designed to be a track car in stock form. It's meant for day to day driving and canyon ripping.

I tend to agree with you. I own an '07 328Xi and before that I had an '05 330Ci M Coupe.

The twin turbo setup on the 335 makes the engine more prone to over heating. Dale, you can't deny this because I've seen it happen on the race track. It is heavier, bigger, and less agile on the track. It's basic physics. By making the car larger, the strain on parts and tires is greater. The M3 is built to take abuse. The 335 is built for the consumer that wants some extra oomph getting around town.

Well to be honest I can see what your saying about it overheating. Over a long track use the M3 would last longer. The335i engine is under more pressure than the straight 3.2 in the M3, due to the twin spoolers. So if i was taking one of them around the world it would be the m3 i have to agree on that one. Also i am not denying the feel of the m cars is completley different. You will feel happier doing 150mph in an M3, and probably less so in the 335i. I know this i just bought M5. awesome.

@dalesteel *sigh* engine load is mainly a function of RPM not boost pressure. S54 block and internals are stronger though, we all know that.

well your statement is true in some respects eg. that the 335i has the power equivalent to a small V8 but it is still marginally slower than the current M3 (of course) and the old M3 had an in line 6.

M3 is faster than a 335i stock for stock hands down. It's not really fair to put a stock M3 vs a Procede 335i, but it was still close. Check out my video's of my M3 vs my friends 335i. The M3 wins everytime hands down by a noticeable margin.

Your statements are true...but you can modify the 335i beyond a simple chip and quite affordably. Add the xDrive AWD and that M3 will be behind the 335xi everytime...even on the track. Besides, everyone love a sleeper sedan...they're not supposed to win...M3's are!

Your wrong. I went 3-0 vs stock e46 M3's. 2 rolling and 1 red light. I am now Dinan modded and have not raced an M3 since but M3's require you to push them hard do to a lack ot tourque. Every time is a poor statment for either car. Even the pros like c/d produced exactly identical 0-60 times and 1/10th better with the 335i thru the quarter mile. They are both bimmers ... love them both!

Thats my 335, the M3 whooped me off the line but I was past him by the 1/8th. The M3 was stock other than Titanium exhaust and I think high flow filter and tune, which isnt worth much. My car had procede V1.47 all else stock. My trap was 7mph higher than the e46 M3. Very bad weather at the track that day, mid 90's and humid.
