@johnnugentiscool Thank You for the info. I love Celtic Music this is the 1st. time I heard this. Rich , was inspired with his love of God and could express his life and acceptance of God naturally thru his"God given talent." What a "cover" to pick, I wonder why, this song? With his life experiernce could he feel the message, and possibly urgency?.
asking you people plzzz pray for my friend kyria's family as they going through a really rough time as she has gonna to be with God at the age of 17..... she died in wildwood and her death has effected us alot but plzzzz prayer for her family
jeez.... you wont have to go far to find the author of the song if anyone is truly curious. i THINK the creator of the video only meant that THIS version is by Rich.....
The song was originally written by Scottish Folk singer Dougie MacLean, Rich acknowledged this in one of his concerts you can find on YouTube. He was an amazing writer in his own right before his untimely death. Dougie is still writing and I encourage all of you to look up some of his songs like Caledonia and The Gale that was the theme for Last of the Mohikins movie. But I still love how Rich did this song he did in a way make it his own, I have to admit this is one of my favorites!
I keep all you go through life's troubles in my prayers. With what I went through in my life it is what I do best. I used to think a lot of the bad stuff in my life, and it caused me to be suicidal. God saved my life, and I thank him daily for it!
Please pray for me. I am in distress... My everyday life is fine but I thirst for God and cannot find him. I love him and am a Christian, but the void in my heart yearns for the water that only Jesus can bring, help me find this water by praying! Thank you...
Hello! I 'd like help you, cause I've been suffering for depression a long time and ,by a miracle,I'm having a gain, knowing more Jesus'love.I offer my friendship for you.
what boat it all depends on if the eye can see or if the ear can here. we all have and will have storms but only one stand and i feel this man di stand
I wonder what you mean by "he misses the boat." Rich points to acts of service as proof of salvation, not the means by which we gain salvation. This is the very same thing Christ did throughout the gospels. He kept only a fraction of the monies he made from his song writing and had his church set up a foundation for the use of the rest so it would be used well and so he wouldn't be tempted to misuse it. I don't think he missed the boat.
Perhaps I can explain Judging, people use it as a cop out waay too much. Read Scripture.
Judging is when you tell someone they're going to heaven or hell.
We can judge fruits, AKA Actions, to tell if someone is saved or not, however its not our place to say, "Hey you're going to hell." because we don't know if they'll be saved later on down the road. We can tell people they're doing wrong, heck check out Jesus, he straight up told his disciples when they did wrong.
You are correct. Dougie McClean did write the song and Rich covered it. It is one of only 2 he covered. The other was "How to Grow Up Big & Strong" by Mark Heard. Many people think "Sing Your Praise to the Lord" is a cover, but Rich wrote it and gave it to Amy Grant, so it's not a cover.
didnt mean to sound that way..but the proof is in the pudding as the saying goes..First it was written by Dougie and 2nd look at the guitar parts..dougie Uses an open tuning with some beautiful guitar work..Rich mullens uses standard tuning ...not as lush sounding ..cowboy chords.
Rich can't write good songs? I beg to differ! Rich was absolutely AMAZING on the piano and the hammer dulcimer. Have you listened to Creed and Calling out Your Name? Beautiful dulcimer on those two songs! And his lyrics are incredible! That's why we still continue to sing his music in church. Awesome God is regarded by many as the greatest christian song of all time, and Rich was the writer. "Proof is in the pudding" for Rich's case, too.
I gotta say... Rich Mullins wrote "Awesome God". And like sjfalcon2001 wrote, Rich only had 2 covers, "Ready for the storm", and "How to grow up big and strong". Anyway, God bless. I just had to point that out because I'm a huge fan, lol
To everyone who loves Rich - please buy his CDS!! It would be amazing to show how much he still means to us!!! Christian bookstores still have them and Better Book Room in Wichita KS. Thanks!!
Can someone please put more Rich Mullins songs on here? I Love pretty much all songs on his "winds of heaven stuff of earth" album and this is the only one I have found. :( Great thanks to whoever posted this video.
Please look at the website Archeology and the Bible. I can't post the link here, but if you google it you will find it. Thanks for your good attitude! Most people who don't believe in God cuss and say very unkind things when you tell them this.
The earth is far enough from the sun to not get burned, yet close enough to not freeze in space. These things don't happen randomly. Someone or something must have given this thought. Everything on earth has a creator. Children are born, seeds are planted, buildings are made. None of these things are just randomly started with no purpose. There are lots of good websites from Christian Archeologiest who prove the bible stories to be true.
Hello sopbilen. I just had this conversation on another site actually and I'll tell you the same thing I told him. My explantion for is God real or not is that that if you look around you, God is everywhere in nature. Think about it. How could this earth have become so perfectly made precisely enough to hold human life if it did not have a creator. How does everything in nature know it's purpose (animals included).
Well, I don't know if you are younger than I am and for not having English as your first language, you are pretty good at it. If you ever want to continue the discussion, let me know. You know where to find me.
I think America is the least religious country in the world. People say they are Christians but it stops there and they have no real interest in the teachings of Christ. As far as fossils go, I don't believe that the Bible excludes the mention of large creatures. In fact, it names them. Monkeys? How would you explain our dis-similarities? The poor and starving by no means deserve to live in that way. However, even if Christians would do their job, we would still have them. Some choose that life.
Seriously I don't have the strength to discuss this at all. You are older than me and have English as your first language, which I don't.
But facts stand, you believe in god, I don't, and that's ok with me.
And about the monkeys, they have fur, tale and can grip with their feet because the environment they live in require it from them. We've taken one step more than the monkeys in the evolution and done what our environment reqires from us.
Actually, the science of religion has more proof than Evolution or Darwin. Darwin himself discounted a lot of his work. Also, the mathematical probability of there being a God is more likely than winning the lottery. The actual equation is in Ryan Dobson's book on relativity. The best proof is History and it's lining up with Biblical references. There is proof, friend. If you want to talk more about it, let me know. I would be happy to talk and consider what you have to say as well.
Ok, so that's your oppinion, and maybe that's not so strange because you live in one of the most religious countries in the world.
But how do you explain fossils? Our simialitys to the monkeys? And, if there is a god, why doesn't he changes the hell on earth? To the poor and starving dererve to live as they do? I don't think so.
Are you doing anything to help the poor and starving? No, they don't deserve to live that way. God wants us to help them, but too many people sit on their hands waiting for someone else to do it and complain that all these horrible things are happening and then saying there's no God. If you're not seeing God at work, you're not getting out there and serving someone else.
I do respect all people. But 9 times out of 10, when people judge me for being Christian and say what you said, and when I ask them what they are doing, they just look to the ground or get mad and walk away. And, you just judged me when you talked about praying to an empty room. That's not the way I help them, I actually get out there and physically do something for them as well. Like building houses, packing relief kits. That kind of thing. I wasn't judging you, just asking a question.
Ah, I see your point. I never noticed the rolling credits after the song. They just went by so fast. But pausing it, I clearly see "For writing the song...". Yes, coolrag should clear that up. I 'think' this was the only song Rich covered. So, most listeners of Rich would have assumed(obviously incorrectly in this case) he wrote it. Of course credit would have been given due to proper person(s) on album(CD,cassette). And, yes, not lieing is one(#9) of the 10 commandments(for Jew&Chrisian)Peace!
And I don't think that a song should not be covered, I even know some songs of which I like the cover better than the original version. So I agree with you, we get the message, nevermind who sings it.
BUT:
When it's a cover you should either write no credits or, if you want to have credits, then don't write a wrong name for the author.
As far as I remember, it is one of the basics of Christian religion, that nobody is allowed to lie, or did I get something wrong???
That sounds right - and I did ask a singer if I could sing one of his songs, as a cover, and he said that you don't have to ask the singer, but yes, you do need to give credit to the writer and original singer of the song. you are right. Maybe the poster of this song didn't know that Rich Mullins didn't write it?
When I wrote "Ideology", I didn't mean the MESSAGE of the song but the opinion about the question: Is a Christian song good, just because the singer is a Christian or can a Christian aswell be a bad singer? I don't say: "Rich IS a bad singer." I just say: "The fact that he is a Christian doesn't make his music better automaticly." As I said: I don't think this is a bad version of the song, but I like the original better.
Thanks coolrag for the post. Great to have the lyrics there along with the video so I can better appeciate the message("ideology") of the music. We(Christian or not) all need a "lighthouse" to follow during our own "storms" of life. As B. Dylan sang(and did he author the song?-doesn't really matter) "we gotta serve somebody".So, whether be Mullins, Dougie or K. Mattea(beautiful use of dobro) we hear the message(ideology) and thanks to whoever delivers it!
I think, for most of the people who wrote comments on this video, ideology is more important than the music itself. What I think: I'm not a Christian, I'm a fan of Dougie MacLean and I like Dougie's ORIGINAL version better. But this version of the song is not as bad as some of you have written.
But it is not OK to write "Thanks for writing the song: Rich Mullins". It was written by Dougie and those credits are just a lie.
I'm a Methodist. I read the Merokat daily (OK...that's what I call it. I'm reading the Feb. 2004 issue I got from a lady at my bank).I don't have time to read any deeper into this post right now, but I feel I'll be enlightened when I do later. Until later...In His Service, phIl
"I believe in one God, The Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, Our Lord...etc." is not in the fine print. ALL Catholics take this oath at every mass, everywhere in the world. So, once again, it is difficult to understand why you do not read Steve Ray (a former Baptist), Scott Hahn (a former Presbyterian minister and seminary professor) and other present day investigators of the Catholic faith. Peace and All Good.
and Rich wrote a ton of songs that he never sung himself. He gave it to other writers to perform. It's not that important. His voice alone is amazing. ?verdad?
Dougie MacLean's original of this song is so much more powerful and beautiful. This is the "Pat Boone," whitewashed version of a wonderful song. Right, I am most certainly not a Christian, but that has nothing to do with preferring Dougie MacLean's version.
well, the song doesn't mean much if you're not a Christian so I guess you're right when it has nothing to do with how well Dougie macLean's sang. (his version.) yes?
Actually, No. It has EVERYTHING to do with how well Dougie MacLean sings the ORIGINAL version of his song. The original song does not have the word Jesus or Lord that this version has added, so it is NOT a Christian song originally, and without the added word, it still isn't. Dougie's version of this song is very meaningful to me. We all have storms in our lives that we should prepare for, emotionally, spiritually and/or physically. One need not be Christian to do so.
Sure, they do, but that wasn't my point. Sorry if I wasn't clear. I was responding to your point that the song didn't mean much if one weren't a Christian. I think the song can relate to everyone, as we all must do what we need to prepare for the storms life sends us. There is nothing Christian about the original song. Mullins version changes it so you Christians can relate better, I guess. I simply prefer Dougie's original version.
I still can't wrap my mind around ignoring what the Bible says (the DIRECT words of Jesus Christ), in favor of what some religious leaders throughout time have said. If it contradicts what Jesus said, how can it have any value?
The bible was written by men, not Jesus. Religious leaders are also men. What's the difference? Because someone decided that the men that wrote the bible were -inspired- by christ? Who said so? Other men, of course. The catholic church is kind of like the american constitution, constantly evolving and changing.
I believe the Bible as we have it today is just as it was when it was written 2000 years ago. Whether or not you agree that's true is mute in this case. I cling to what was originally written, not to what was modified throughout the ages. In this, I see a clear difference. I won't accept constant additions. Only things that were written by those who lived with Jesus.
Thats nice, however the Catholics are the ones who assembled the bible in the first place, and it wasn't until Mt. Luther removed those that disagreed with his practices of living (he wanted to marry a nun, and keep the prestige of a priest) that the bible was first modified. Mute facts if you like, it's standard prodecure for fundies..
Ugh. After the first few words I knew, without reading all of the posts, that this was a contemporary christian artist. I don't understand how christians can listen to this LUKE WARM shit, it doesn't glorify God in the -slightest-. If I were God I would be embarassed to have such crappy music made in my name.
I am sorry that you feel that way, but you know this is one of my favorite songs, and I would rather you be nice. And another thing don't cuss on the page with a christian song.
This is a christian artist covering a secular song, there is nothing christian about the song itself. The original intent of the song is to convey -personal- strength and integrity, not a lack thereof with faith only in God. The song is great, I was only referring to contemporary christian music in general.
thanks for explaining . . .I agree as far as contemporary . . to me, I don't get how Christian can be rock? But I like this song. The other Rich Mullins songs are good, and you should check out Steve Green. They are both more deep than contemporary.
This is a great song. I wonder, do your comments honor God? God is honored by our obedience. This is a man who is obedient to God, writing music, which in turn helps Christians in their walk with Christ. This song has meant a lot to me, and your words simply aid in the destruction of Christian testimony.
Hey, you hit several of my favorite overused fundamentalist christian words: "obedience, walk with Christ, and testimony." Should have included "heart condition, fellowship, and worship team" while you were at it.
I for one am glad protestants aren't real christians.
And once again, I'm glad your not God, so you don't know the way my heart truly is. I wonder, how dare you call yourself a Christian and then claim that people aren't Christians because they use certain words. Like... words out of the Bible, which just so happens to contain the Words of Jesus, thus being the foundation of Christianity.
Have fun continually damaging Christian testimony. God will always put people in place to undo the damage, but its not appreciated.
Apparently too... obedience to God isn't Christian... nor is walking in the path Christ would have us, nor is testimony (defined as our outward example of what we believe). What kind of "Christianity" could you believe without obedience to God?
Have you ever even heard the good news before? That Jesus died for the sins of mankind even though we didn't deserve it.
What in the world do you place your faith in if not the Bible (the source of the things God has told mankind)?
The Roman Catholic bible and Catechism of course. The oldest faction of Christianity, and the only organization with the hope of being based on something other than someone's emotionally influenced opinion. Also, Catholics have the best music, and tend to be a lot more perceptive and intelligent as a collective (not to insinuate you're not perceptive and intelligent, there's a decent number of intelligent protestants out there, and you and you family could very well be among them).
By the way, if Catholicism is so righteous, how can you explain the butchering of the Crusades, the mass orgies ordered by medieval popes, and the incredible horrors of living in the middle ages brought on by a 'church' filled with members obsessed with power and greed? Infallable? NO mere man is infallable.
I will cling to the words of Jesus, not a religious leader.
So, you tell people that they can do whatever they want. Knowing that they could go to heaven or hell, you just don't care? Its pretentious to care what happens to people for eternity. What love you have for people who don't know Jesus!
I seem to remember Christ telling believers to go forth into all the world for the harvest. Is this not true?
Crusades, apocrapha, buying blessings, blah, blah blah, same old protestant rhetoric from the fundies that can't quite seem to get over the middle ages. And yes, it is pretentious to care what happens to people for eternity, because you're assuming your belief system is the right one, without any basis but your own desire and opinion and upbringing, which may or may not be another person's desire opinion or upbringing. Everyone knows that leading by example is the only way to persuade others.
Well, I certainly wouldn't call myself a Christian if I didn't assume what I believed was correct. I don't buy into moral relativity or the concept that everyone is a little correct. I figure everything human has a chance for error, so I don't trust it. I trust the Bible, what Jesus said as recorded through history.
Relativism ultimately fails though. To say that everyone is right to themselves means that contradictions can exist without consequence. Reality hinges on the fact that right and wrong exist.
I would really love to introduce you to what I believe though. I don't think people have given you a very clear view of it before.
Hey, I only have a grudge against protestants because I was expelled from a non-denominational christian school for being Catholic, and having a "poor worship spirit." I believe in the existence of contradiction, but not the existence of contradiction without consequence. Everybody has fundamental right and wrongs, they must always exist, though their deffinitions differ per individule.
Christians make mistakes as they are human and imperfect. I love the phrase 'sinners saved by grace'. Its true. We are still people, but God loves us. It sounds like a bunch of Christians were fairly unchristian in that case. I don't want to come from a 'you have to call yourself a protestant or a catholic or a this or that' perspective. I don't believe its what you call yourself that matters. Its what you believe.
Thats what all protestants say, truth of the matter is that if you don't call yourself "bible only" you're ostracized and rejected as a heathen, because it threatens the weak principals that protestants have in place.
Sure, I was just basing it off my own experience. I was accepted into a "non denominational" school as a catholic, which they said was no problem.. turns out they only accepted me because they wanted to convert me, and after attacking me, and realizing that I wasn't going to convert to "bible only" christianity, they had me expelled. My transcript said "expulsion due to poor worship spirit" which was essentially "disobedience" to their "position of power" when they told me what to believe.
o. well, Christianity is different then Cotholism. just so you know. Christians shouldn't force any one to belief like that. thankyou didn't want to be assuming. ;)
you're welcome. I understand . . I wouldn't someone forcing me to believe what they do, either.
I have a question - if one says that they're not shoving it down someone's throat, but if they tell them that they're going to pray for them, do you think that's shoving it down their throat anyway?
thanks! Sometimes I'm confused by that. I know other people have different opinions, but yeah. I think everything should be respected, but not tolerated. If you get what I mean?
To say that Catholicism is not Christian is ridiculous. Since the Reformation, Western Christianity has been classified as Catholic or Protestant. Before that Catholic and Christian were interchangeable: Check your local "state" college. Over the last 20 years or so, it has been fashionable for SOME of the 35,000+(!) protestant denominations to ignore history and embrace the comfort of dishonest claims and "convert" Catholics.
Not really. Christians believe that JESUS is the one that saves us, but Catholics generally believe that it was his mother, Mary. They also believe that when you take communion it really becomes Jesus' blood and flesh, but Christians don't. Catholics also believe that you need to go to a priest to confess your sins, but Christians believe all you need to do is go to God, confess, and let Him wash away your sin.
Yes, REALLY! Sorry that you're unwilling to admit the reality of any objective, academic historical record. Catholics and Protestants are Christians...For objectivity, ask any rabbi who's right! Scott Hahn
(continuing text from above)...Wished to add that Scott Hahn had it in for Catholics, too, until he got into the history of/and beliefs of the Church, as opposed to the sort of disinformation that you are relying on, uogb. Read his "Lamb's Supper" and "Hail, Holy Queen." Slothe is no virtue. Your caricatures of Catholic beliefs are uncharitable and un"Christian." Catholics don't demand that you convert. But we do expect you get all of your facts straight.
yeah, well, Catholics believe that Jesus is still dead, and Christians don't. And they added stuff to the Bible that was NEVER there before. Maybe you should compare their Bibles and what each one believes.
uogb. Actually, this Catholic believes your mind is still closed. Actually, Catholic Christians have always had the Real Presence of Christ: body, blood, sould and divinity. As a Protestant, you do not. The Catholic Old Testament is the same one that Jesus had at synagogue. Our Lord read. You, obviously don't.
oh, I read. You'd better believe it. We have the Holy Spirit with us, and we don't need to have "confession" we just need to go to the Lord. The Catholic OT may be the same, but they ADDED some stuff. About dragons, and so on.
I know many people who have been Catholics, but have converted to Christianity. They say so many things have changed for them - for instance, as Catholics, they didn't care, and drank, and messed up their lives. But as Christians, they straightened up.
well, to begin, I am also a Roman Catholic. Also, it is difficult to say that we ADDED anything. There are many biblical translations that are different. That could be part of the problem right there. Not that we added stuff, but that it was translated differently. That's not something to fuss over unless there are heretical words. Can you tell me some places where it's really different? I'd like to see it and help us understand together what is happening. Thx.
Woah, hold on. How does one convert to something that they are already a part of? I'm a Catholic...and a Christian. I don't know how a Catholic can "convert" to Christianity if Catholicism IS Christianity. Please explain. Catholics are Christian, hon. As such all of the Christians of the world (us) need to band together in their similarities and not shut others out based on denomination. You'll never gain some really great people for friends if you do.
Even Luther acknowledged that if it were not for the Catholic Church Protestants would not have the bible. So, once again, your own roots militate against your stubborn (that's all it is, really...) insistance that you are Christian but a Catholic is not. When drunks start to care they can recover--whether they call themselves Catholic or, in your case, Protestant Christians.
yes. and a good deal of protestants believe some wild things that are completely heretical. Those who don't believe that Jesus is the Son of God are not really Catholics at heart. Plus, I don't see why they'd still practice Catholicism since that belief is the cornerstone of the church - literally. I'm Roman Catholic Christian and I can say that all true Catholics believe that Jesus is true God and true man (Incarnation).
I was listening to a Rich Mullins tape on a plane as I was flying to Florida. We landed while the hurricane was hitting (this was years ago, I don't think the airlines would do that now). Hearing the song play when I was scared and wondering why they were flying us in when everyone was evacuating was definitely a God thing. :)
What an utterly crap version! I decided to take a listen to see what the fuss was about. This lacks all the power of the original and is watered down pap.
What a completely unchristianly thing to post. My pastor played this song in church a few months ago while I was going through a tough time and it just made me feel so much better. I've never heard the original but even if it's better that doesn't make this one "crap" as you've put it. I'm sure a lot of others share my opinion as well.
Chances are that person isn't a christian, but for what it's worth, he's totally right. This version is vastly inferior to the original by Dougie Maclean. It's just a fact, aka, TRUTH, aka, GOD, therefore, despite the fact that he probably isnt christian, it was a completely christian thing to say.
The wonderful thing about Rich is that he didn't just sing gospel; but he was actually SOLD for Christ!! Yes, he was one man who had(lived it too) that CRAZY LOVE for HRIST. Thank God for people with a heart like his. He continues to touch lives!!

It really doesn't matter about your preference. It's mainly about the message of the song. I don't think people come here to argue. Why are you here?

Rich Mullins is the best, Ive heard this song from Dougie Mcclean, the one who wrote it, and Rich sings it so much better.
diamondinchrist 3 years ago

Please look at the website Archeology and the Bible. I can't post the link here, but if you google it you will find it. Thanks for your good attitude! Most people who don't believe in God cuss and say very unkind things when you tell them this.
GodServantGirl123 3 years ago
The earth is far enough from the sun to not get burned, yet close enough to not freeze in space. These things don't happen randomly. Someone or something must have given this thought. Everything on earth has a creator. Children are born, seeds are planted, buildings are made. None of these things are just randomly started with no purpose. There are lots of good websites from Christian Archeologiest who prove the bible stories to be true.
GodServantGirl123 3 years ago
Hello sopbilen. I just had this conversation on another site actually and I'll tell you the same thing I told him. My explantion for is God real or not is that that if you look around you, God is everywhere in nature. Think about it. How could this earth have become so perfectly made precisely enough to hold human life if it did not have a creator. How does everything in nature know it's purpose (animals included).

Uriah470 3 years ago
Seriously I don't have the strength to discuss this at all. You are older than me and have English as your first language, which I don't.
But facts stand, you believe in god, I don't, and that's ok with me.
And about the monkeys, they have fur, tale and can grip with their feet because the environment they live in require it from them. We've taken one step more than the monkeys in the evolution and done what our environment reqires from us.
sopbilen 3 years ago
Love this song,
but seriously, there's no god
sopbilen 3 years ago
What makes you say that?
Uriah470 3 years ago
Well, maybe the fact that I believe in the Evolution and Darwin, where you atleast can find proof. I don't see any proof that god exist.
That's my oppinion.
sopbilen 3 years ago
Actually, the science of religion has more proof than Evolution or Darwin. Darwin himself discounted a lot of his work. Also, the mathematical probability of there being a God is more likely than winning the lottery. The actual equation is in Ryan Dobson's book on relativity. The best proof is History and it's lining up with Biblical references. There is proof, friend. If you want to talk more about it, let me know. I would be happy to talk and consider what you have to say as well.
Uriah470 3 years ago
Ok, so that's your oppinion, and maybe that's not so strange because you live in one of the most religious countries in the world.
But how do you explain fossils? Our simialitys to the monkeys? And, if there is a god, why doesn't he changes the hell on earth? To the poor and starving dererve to live as they do? I don't think so.
sopbilen 3 years ago
Are you doing anything to help the poor and starving? No, they don't deserve to live that way. God wants us to help them, but too many people sit on their hands waiting for someone else to do it and complain that all these horrible things are happening and then saying there's no God. If you're not seeing God at work, you're not getting out there and serving someone else.
crosscountrytc 2 years ago
Excuse me, who are you to judge me? Isn't that against some golden rule of god?
I help. But my help isn't the kind where you wear a cross around your neck or speak to an empty room. I take action.
I respect all people, even though I think religion of any kind is brainwashing. But apparently you god's little helper doesn't.
sopbilen 2 years ago
I do respect all people. But 9 times out of 10, when people judge me for being Christian and say what you said, and when I ask them what they are doing, they just look to the ground or get mad and walk away. And, you just judged me when you talked about praying to an empty room. That's not the way I help them, I actually get out there and physically do something for them as well. Like building houses, packing relief kits. That kind of thing. I wasn't judging you, just asking a question.
crosscountrytc 2 years ago 4
Yep, coolrag might be more precise to thank Richard Mullins for performing the song, but thank Dougie Mclean for writing it.
helyxa 3 years ago
is that his name because it says so on the credits god must have had a sence of humor when He named him.
quinnzeeskimo 3 years ago
Ah, I see your point. I never noticed the rolling credits after the song. They just went by so fast. But pausing it, I clearly see "For writing the song...". Yes, coolrag should clear that up. I 'think' this was the only song Rich covered. So, most listeners of Rich would have assumed(obviously incorrectly in this case) he wrote it. Of course credit would have been given due to proper person(s) on album(CD,cassette). And, yes, not lieing is one(#9) of the 10 commandments(for Jew&Chrisian)Peace!
slinscome 3 years ago
And I don't think that a song should not be covered, I even know some songs of which I like the cover better than the original version. So I agree with you, we get the message, nevermind who sings it.
BUT:
When it's a cover you should either write no credits or, if you want to have credits, then don't write a wrong name for the author.
As far as I remember, it is one of the basics of Christian religion, that nobody is allowed to lie, or did I get something wrong???
PeterSchmieder 3 years ago
That sounds right - and I did ask a singer if I could sing one of his songs, as a cover, and he said that you don't have to ask the singer, but yes, you do need to give credit to the writer and original singer of the song. you are right. Maybe the poster of this song didn't know that Rich Mullins didn't write it?
God is a God of Wonders
uogb 3 years ago
When I wrote "Ideology", I didn't mean the MESSAGE of the song but the opinion about the question: Is a Christian song good, just because the singer is a Christian or can a Christian aswell be a bad singer? I don't say: "Rich IS a bad singer." I just say: "The fact that he is a Christian doesn't make his music better automaticly." As I said: I don't think this is a bad version of the song, but I like the original better.
PeterSchmieder 3 years ago
True. Christian singers can be "bad", and I honestly don't like some Christian(rock)music.

Mattea(beautiful use of dobro) we hear the message(ideology) and thanks to whoever delivers it!
slinscome 3 years ago
Quit arguing and pray for each other, please.
dogdewdogschool 3 years ago
I think, for most of the people who wrote comments on this video, ideology is more important than the music itself. What I think: I'm not a Christian, I'm a fan of Dougie MacLean and I like Dougie's ORIGINAL version better. But this version of the song is not as bad as some of you have written.
But it is not OK to write "Thanks for writing the song: Rich Mullins". It was written by Dougie and those credits are just a lie.

Peace and All Good.

plopperrrrr 4 years ago
and Rich wrote a ton of songs that he never sung himself. He gave it to other writers to perform. It's not that important. His voice alone is amazing. ?verdad?
survivoroftheamerica 3 years ago
Dougie MacLean's original of this song is so much more powerful and beautiful. This is the "Pat Boone," whitewashed version of a wonderful song. Right, I am most certainly not a Christian, but that has nothing to do with preferring Dougie MacLean's version.
MacAonghais 4 years ago
well, the song doesn't mean much if you're not a Christian so I guess you're right when it has nothing to do with how well Dougie macLean's sang. (his version.) yes?
uogb 4 years ago
Actually, No. It has EVERYTHING to do with how well Dougie MacLean sings the ORIGINAL version of his song. The original song does not have the word Jesus or Lord that this version has added, so it is NOT a Christian song originally, and without the added word, it still isn't. Dougie's version of this song is very meaningful to me. We all have storms in our lives that we should prepare for, emotionally, spiritually and/or physically. One need not be Christian to do so.
MacAonghais 4 years ago 2
no, of course not. But Christians need to do it also.(need to prepare for the storms)
uogb 4 years ago
Sure, they do, but that wasn't my point. Sorry if I wasn't clear. I was responding to your point that the song didn't mean much if one weren't a Christian. I think the song can relate to everyone, as we all must do what we need to prepare for the storms life sends us. There is nothing Christian about the original song. Mullins version changes it so you Christians can relate better, I guess. I simply prefer Dougie's original version.
MacAonghais 4 years ago
I'm ready for the storm too. Love Rich Mullins. What a pure spirit he was and very humble, and faithful to the Lord.

I still can't wrap my mind around ignoring what the Bible says (the DIRECT words of Jesus Christ), in favor of what some religious leaders throughout time have said. If it contradicts what Jesus said, how can it have any value?
MarcusOfLycia 4 years ago
The bible was written by men, not Jesus. Religious leaders are also men. What's the difference? Because someone decided that the men that wrote the bible were -inspired- by christ? Who said so? Other men, of course. The catholic church is kind of like the american constitution, constantly evolving and changing.
anticlimatic21 4 years ago
Is God constantly evolving and changing? If not, then neither should a religion that claims to believe in Him.
MarcusOfLycia 4 years ago
If that's the case, why aren't you still Catholic?
anticlimatic21 4 years ago
I believe the Bible as we have it today is just as it was when it was written 2000 years ago. Whether or not you agree that's true is mute in this case. I cling to what was originally written, not to what was modified throughout the ages. In this, I see a clear difference. I won't accept constant additions. Only things that were written by those who lived with Jesus.
MarcusOfLycia 4 years ago
Thats nice, however the Catholics are the ones who assembled the bible in the first place, and it wasn't until Mt. Luther removed those that disagreed with his practices of living (he wanted to marry a nun, and keep the prestige of a priest) that the bible was first modified. Mute facts if you like, it's standard prodecure for fundies..
anticlimatic21 4 years ago
God is NOT constantly evolving and changing. He stays the same.
uogb 4 years ago
Ugh. After the first few words I knew, without reading all of the posts, that this was a contemporary christian artist. I don't understand how christians can listen to this LUKE WARM shit, it doesn't glorify God in the -slightest-. If I were God I would be embarassed to have such crappy music made in my name.
anticlimatic21 4 years ago
I am sorry that you feel that way, but you know this is one of my favorite songs, and I would rather you be nice. And another thing don't cuss on the page with a christian song.
coolrag 4 years ago
This is a christian artist covering a secular song, there is nothing christian about the song itself. The original intent of the song is to convey -personal- strength and integrity, not a lack thereof with faith only in God. The song is great, I was only referring to contemporary christian music in general.
anticlimatic21 4 years ago
thanks for explaining . . .I agree as far as contemporary . . to me, I don't get how Christian can be rock? But I like this song. The other Rich Mullins songs are good, and you should check out Steve Green. They are both more deep than contemporary.
uogb 4 years ago
This is a great song. I wonder, do your comments honor God? God is honored by our obedience. This is a man who is obedient to God, writing music, which in turn helps Christians in their walk with Christ. This song has meant a lot to me, and your words simply aid in the destruction of Christian testimony.
I for one am glad you are not God.
MarcusOfLycia 4 years ago
Hey, you hit several of my favorite overused fundamentalist christian words: "obedience, walk with Christ, and testimony." Should have included "heart condition, fellowship, and worship team" while you were at it.
I for one am glad protestants aren't real christians.
anticlimatic21 4 years ago
And once again, I'm glad your not God, so you don't know the way my heart truly is. I wonder, how dare you call yourself a Christian and then claim that people aren't Christians because they use certain words. Like... words out of the Bible, which just so happens to contain the Words of Jesus, thus being the foundation of Christianity.
Have fun continually damaging Christian testimony. God will always put people in place to undo the damage, but its not appreciated.
MarcusOfLycia 4 years ago
Apparently too... obedience to God isn't Christian... nor is walking in the path Christ would have us, nor is testimony (defined as our outward example of what we believe). What kind of "Christianity" could you believe without obedience to God?
Have you ever even heard the good news before? That Jesus died for the sins of mankind even though we didn't deserve it.
What in the world do you place your faith in if not the Bible (the source of the things God has told mankind)?
MarcusOfLycia 4 years ago
The Roman Catholic bible and Catechism of course. The oldest faction of Christianity, and the only organization with the hope of being based on something other than someone's emotionally influenced opinion. Also, Catholics have the best music, and tend to be a lot more perceptive and intelligent as a collective (not to insinuate you're not perceptive and intelligent, there's a decent number of intelligent protestants out there, and you and you family could very well be among them).
anticlimatic21 4 years ago
So, what would you tell an athiest they had to do to be saved?
Horse6213 4 years ago
I'm catholic. I don't try to "save" people. That pretentious, condescending, and pointless... and only characteristic of protestant Christians.
anticlimatic21 4 years ago
By the way, if Catholicism is so righteous, how can you explain the butchering of the Crusades, the mass orgies ordered by medieval popes, and the incredible horrors of living in the middle ages brought on by a 'church' filled with members obsessed with power and greed? Infallable? NO mere man is infallable.
I will cling to the words of Jesus, not a religious leader.
MarcusOfLycia 4 years ago
So... again, what must you do to be saved?
MarcusOfLycia 4 years ago
So, you tell people that they can do whatever they want. Knowing that they could go to heaven or hell, you just don't care? Its pretentious to care what happens to people for eternity. What love you have for people who don't know Jesus!
I seem to remember Christ telling believers to go forth into all the world for the harvest. Is this not true?
MarcusOfLycia 4 years ago
Crusades, apocrapha, buying blessings, blah, blah blah, same old protestant rhetoric from the fundies that can't quite seem to get over the middle ages. And yes, it is pretentious to care what happens to people for eternity, because you're assuming your belief system is the right one, without any basis but your own desire and opinion and upbringing, which may or may not be another person's desire opinion or upbringing. Everyone knows that leading by example is the only way to persuade others.
anticlimatic21 4 years ago
Well, I certainly wouldn't call myself a Christian if I didn't assume what I believed was correct. I don't buy into moral relativity or the concept that everyone is a little correct. I figure everything human has a chance for error, so I don't trust it. I trust the Bible, what Jesus said as recorded through history.
MarcusOfLycia 4 years ago
Yeah, I'm a relativist. It seems like the only logical answer to me. If the Bible-only thing works for you, knock yourself out.
anticlimatic21 4 years ago
Relativism ultimately fails though. To say that everyone is right to themselves means that contradictions can exist without consequence. Reality hinges on the fact that right and wrong exist.
I would really love to introduce you to what I believe though. I don't think people have given you a very clear view of it before.
MarcusOfLycia 4 years ago
Hey, I only have a grudge against protestants because I was expelled from a non-denominational christian school for being Catholic, and having a "poor worship spirit." I believe in the existence of contradiction, but not the existence of contradiction without consequence. Everybody has fundamental right and wrongs, they must always exist, though their deffinitions differ per individule.
anticlimatic21 4 years ago
Christians make mistakes as they are human and imperfect. I love the phrase 'sinners saved by grace'. Its true. We are still people, but God loves us. It sounds like a bunch of Christians were fairly unchristian in that case. I don't want to come from a 'you have to call yourself a protestant or a catholic or a this or that' perspective. I don't believe its what you call yourself that matters. Its what you believe.
MarcusOfLycia 4 years ago
Thats what all protestants say, truth of the matter is that if you don't call yourself "bible only" you're ostracized and rejected as a heathen, because it threatens the weak principals that protestants have in place.
anticlimatic21 4 years ago
could you explain that further? i wanted to give an answer, but i'm not sure what you're saying.
uogb 4 years ago
Sure, I was just basing it off my own experience. I was accepted into a "non denominational" school as a catholic, which they said was no problem.. turns out they only accepted me because they wanted to convert me, and after attacking me, and realizing that I wasn't going to convert to "bible only" christianity, they had me expelled. My transcript said "expulsion due to poor worship spirit" which was essentially "disobedience" to their "position of power" when they told me what to believe.
anticlimatic21 4 years ago
no one is going to force you to believe. I'm sorry that it happened that way.
uogb 4 years ago
o. well, Christianity is different then Cotholism. just so you know. Christians shouldn't force any one to belief like that. thankyou didn't want to be assuming. ;)
uogb 4 years ago
Thank's for being considerate. It's a breath of fresh air concerning these religious discussions..
anticlimatic21 4 years ago
you're welcome. I understand . . I wouldn't someone forcing me to believe what they do, either.
I have a question - if one says that they're not shoving it down someone's throat, but if they tell them that they're going to pray for them, do you think that's shoving it down their throat anyway?
uogb 4 years ago
Of course not. That's simply a nice gesture, motive wise, and should be respected.
anticlimatic21 4 years ago
thanks! Sometimes I'm confused by that. I know other people have different opinions, but yeah. I think everything should be respected, but not tolerated. If you get what I mean?
uogb 4 years ago
To say that Catholicism is not Christian is ridiculous. Since the Reformation, Western Christianity has been classified as Catholic or Protestant. Before that Catholic and Christian were interchangeable: Check your local "state" college. Over the last 20 years or so, it has been fashionable for SOME of the 35,000+(!) protestant denominations to ignore history and embrace the comfort of dishonest claims and "convert" Catholics.
michiganois 4 years ago
Not really. Christians believe that JESUS is the one that saves us, but Catholics generally believe that it was his mother, Mary. They also believe that when you take communion it really becomes Jesus' blood and flesh, but Christians don't. Catholics also believe that you need to go to a priest to confess your sins, but Christians believe all you need to do is go to God, confess, and let Him wash away your sin.
uogb 4 years ago
Yes, REALLY! Sorry that you're unwilling to admit the reality of any objective, academic historical record. Catholics and Protestants are Christians...For objectivity, ask any rabbi who's right! Scott Hahn
michiganois 4 years ago
(continuing text from above)...Wished to add that Scott Hahn had it in for Catholics, too, until he got into the history of/and beliefs of the Church, as opposed to the sort of disinformation that you are relying on, uogb. Read his "Lamb's Supper" and "Hail, Holy Queen." Slothe is no virtue. Your caricatures of Catholic beliefs are uncharitable and un"Christian." Catholics don't demand that you convert. But we do expect you get all of your facts straight.
michiganois 4 years ago
yeah, well, Catholics believe that Jesus is still dead, and Christians don't. And they added stuff to the Bible that was NEVER there before. Maybe you should compare their Bibles and what each one believes.
uogb 4 years ago
You, obviously don't.
michiganois 4 years ago
But as Christians, they straightened up.
uogb 4 years ago
well, to begin, I am also a Roman Catholic. Thx.
survivoroftheamerica 3 years ago

When drunks start to care they can recover--whether they call themselves Catholic or, in your case, Protestant Christians.
michiganois 4 years ago
Yes, they can, of course, everyone can, but what I was saying was that their life style changed once they truly repented.
Sure, some Catholics truly believe that Jesus is the Son of God, but a good deal don't
uogb 4 years ago
On that same token, a lot of Christians don't believe that either.
Uriah470 4 years ago
true . . good point. To be honest, though, I do. Thanks for that point of view.
God is a God of Wonders
uogb 4 years ago
yes. and a good deal of protestants believe some wild things that are completely heretical.
