actually you're right except for one thing. skydiving, bungee jumping and rock climbing/general crazy shit are all forms of socially acceptable extreme activity. meaning, people accept that those (while batshit insane) are another way of having fun. sticking metal through your body and hanging yourself (otherwise known as self-induced mutilation and torture) are far beyond what we accept as fun. that's the difference. and it would seem (based on stereotype) that it was drugs that led her to it.
