Stephen Dorrell's comments sum up what's wrong with some politicians (not all). Why couldn't he just have talked normally & honestly about the clear-cut exit poll, instead of giving such an absurdly formulaic cliched speech. The voting was over - what effect was he worried about having?!
(He's also wrong in his reference to the '87 & '92 exit polls, neither of which predicted Labour governments).
@swanarcadian I agree with you. I also think Edwina summed up Tory's loss well. She should have also added the sleaze & hypocrisy in her party at the time.
@zufgh Perhaps I should apologise - didn't realise you were so easily offended? The problem with this site is that moderators allow people to put up derogatory and offensive remarks just because they feel like it. You have made a personally insulting remark about someone with nothing to back it up. No offensive to the late Mr Jackson , but not everyone was interested in him enough to watch the programme about him.
There isn't really a moderator for this channel. I've uploaded the videos but I can't really check all the comments. Either they all have to stay or I will have to block all comments, which I don't really want to do.
Michael Hesseltine arriving at Conservative Central Office, broad shoulder and full of bravado, still a big beast of the jungle and a member of the 'natural party of government', but only for a few more hours...

@zufgh On what basis? Don't make comments without elaborating.

@davieboy27 I'm Sorry? Are you not aware that he made Michael Jackson's life a living hell?

@zufgh Are you aware that no one knew what you were talking about from your comment? Anyway, we know now!

Edwina Currie gives a very measured interview, conceding national defeat.
Michael Heseltine suffered chest pains a few days later, and then ruled himself out of the subsequent Conservative leadership race.
