Thank you for this video slideshow. My grandfather was a BEE during the Korean War era and sadly died July 6th, 2009 from injuries sustained from a car accident. He was the toughest guy I knew. worked 3 jobs and shoveled his own snow even in his 70s. The Seabees are forgoten bunch of heros. I hope to be one here shortly. GOD BLESS THE SEABEES PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE!
Thanks for posting this. Found it while surfing the internet tonight. All the very best to you! ---Dan Bower, former EO3 in first hitch, EO2 in 2nd hitch, 1968-1972 on active duty and 1975-1981 in the Seabee Reserves. MCB 74 and MCB 128, Gitmo, Danang, Hue and Ham Tan. then MCB 26 Reserve Battalion. There is no richer history than the Navy Construction Battalions. It's something like the Peace Corps--ONLY ARMED TO THE TEETH!
Bro, thanks for putting this out man. My grandpa was a SeaBee but he didn't talk much about it. except plenty of tall tales, some true about waking up to find his fox hole buddy dead shot between the eyes & a few other tales. I never asked much after that . He was fighting in the Islands at age 16 or 17. This was visually informative. Do you know anything about the U.S.S. Kwajaein, or anything that'd help me understand what he went through better? That's the ship he served on back in the day.
@Visionarydave444 Sorry it took me so long to reply but I have been afk a lot lately cuz I'm back in school. Dont know anything about the ship you mentioned but I will Put out some fliers and see if I can get any info. BTW your grandpa is a hero and a member of the most elite family on the planet.
@vegasfatts it's all good brother. Do your thing. Ever the Sea Bee, building your mind when you ain't building barracks or runways. That you put the word out on that ship means the world to me.
Once a Bee Always a Bee, and my grandpa Abraham Almada Villarreal Born May 2 of 1925 went to the hive in the sky December 11 1997. This Bee built a legacy that would make all you Bee's proud. My hats off to all you who had the stones and courage to do what many of us could not.
Thankyou. I'm very excited for him to start his career. We have been together for 2 1/2 yrs and got married on Feb 19th 2010. Unfortunately in April he moved to his moms house and i stayed with my mom so that he could find a job up there. I miss him like crazy. but i guess this is preparing me for those dreaded deployments. So your a construction mechanic. Can you tell me about how long A-school was. I thought CM's went to school at Port Hueneme? Do you have a facebook?
My husband will be enlisting soon. He is trying to decide what Seabee Rate he wants to go into. Any advice on which one, also bootcamp and a-school advice would be greatly appreciated.
@brittanytrevino Welcome to the brotherhood once a bee always a bee! I was a mechanic and went to A school in Gulfport Ms.All Seabee ratings are great! This is dwarfgator aka EO1(scw) retired, miss the respect more than anything else. Alot of memories packed in here...all I can say is ...been there/done that OVER!
Those who've never lived it just dont understand why we miss it. OOOOOO-RAHHHHHHH Seabees, EODMU-11 and NMCB 4 mar 04 to aug 08. Good luck and thanks to all my brothers and sisters out there still making a difference.
Thanks for the tribute brother, It's so true that we are the most undisciplined yet tightest military/family anyone could ever know. No one else could even come close to understanding that, I have made friends no, brothers for life even if they call me 20 years from now asking for a place to stay or whatever it's theirs.
Hooah! Tell it like it is, brother. Former member of "74" here. You know it. You brought back some old memories and some old "just like I was still there" scenes and feelings in my mind. Even though it may have been sacrifice beyond what many others will ever know, it was the most special time of my life. Thanks man.
Thanks DD served NMCB 62, ACB 2(almost a constuction battaion)ha ha great times 1985 to 1992 then part time NMCB 24 93-95 NMCB 26 00-03 great times EOKrall thanks
Great description of us DD, I served in nmcb4 and nmcb74 from 1982 to 1994. Some of the best times of my life were spent in the bees, if I had to do it over again, I would in a heartbeat......but maybe with a little bit better attitude.
Good Job....I was a Seabee in Nam in '66-'67 &'68, with MCB 8. Even though it was war, those were the best days of my life. That may sound dumb, but unless you've been a Bee, you just wouldn't understand. Glad to see that someone is still thinking of them all.
Sweet slide's. I was NMCB 74 "98-03" as a CE. Man I miss it. Wish I would have still been in for the Hurricane to help out and with the gang overseas. Nice job Brother.
