  • Gorgeous.......video, song...Simon....Nick.

  • better than Duran Duran. Truly under appreciated artists.

  • This is beautiful.

  • So Red The Rose should have been released as a Duran Duran album. But,as great as it is,they coulda called themselves the Turd Lickers, and I still woulda bought it.

  • actually I looked this up in the barnesandnoble website and the person who plays the sax on the Promise, is Herbie Hancock

  • Gilmour, Sting and Mark Egan all in this classic. Great dang song.

  • sounds like some of the BIG THING album-no bad thing!!

  • Dave Gilmour's guitar in tihis song.... priceless

  • @frantomo Yes indeed!

  • ALWAYS innovative duran duran are one of the few great music bands in the world ...the voice of simon is unique as their style music sound..great every performance!they should regard only their sensual image ..for love of their ever fans..wich feel themself ever teen ever young .that's why also to hear their wonderful songs I would also to see much more them on the newspapers on tv scene !smack

  • Bring back the black hair Simon!

  • beautiful song

  • awesome, i didn't know they made so many vids for this album

  • One of the best pop songs of all times

  • Who plays sax on this song? Simon?

  • @bucky468 I don't think that Simon plays sax at all. Without going back and checking the liner notes, I would guess Andy McKay since Duran has worked with him in the past.

  • @jjaecks71 Does Herbie Hancock play sax b/c I noticed (via All Music Guide) that he plays on this song along w/Sting & Dave Gilmour? I know he's a synth man but he's a jazz man also.

  • wow, I love these guys, but that is painful to watch. Great song, fantastic talent from Simon and Nick but this video is just too long.

  • @veronaga Then do what I did & sync it w/a video close to the same length that you find appealing. In my case I synced it w/a vid tribute to a beautiful & talented actress from the past who played Andrea (the android who had a hold on Kirk) on Star Trek. Yeah do something like that.

  • Dave Gilmore, Sting.

  • Arcadia is my favourite toooo

  • Very well done in all respects.

  • my fav song on so red the rose, great backing vocals by sting

  • nice song nice video

  • awesome song the best simon lebon great voice

  • Wow, I have not seen this video in a very long time. So glad to find it here. Love love love this song.

  • Awesome song!

  • One of the best DD/Arcadia songs EVER! Sting singing background really makes this a great song!!

  • The best song in the entire LP

  • Novembre cover is really better...!

  • I never noticed before that Sting does a bit of backing on this!!!

  • This album is collectivley probably better than any duran duran album - except Rio and Duran Duran number1.

  • @gregingram1970 agreed ... its the TRUE follow up to 7 and the ragged tiger ... not notorious ...

  • they just released arcadia remastered 3 disc box set with dvd! has everything on there, making of, videos, etc.

  • THIS IS A-HA

  • @Nikosart Noooo Is Arcadia dear ...

  • This song will never be dry.

  • DOWN

  • EMI re-released the album as a three disc box set April 12, 2010 (2010-04-12) in the UK and April 20, 2010 (2010-04-20) in the US. This remastered collected all permutations and remixes of tracks released by the band. The third disc comprised the video collection on DVD, but it does not include the video for "Say the Word".

  • love this song

  • lebon/rhodes(r.taylor)..excellent LP/CD..I remember getting this back in the mid 80s..every freakin' song on it was great. very few bands can accomplish that. beatles,m.j.(thriller), etc,.,very underrated LP!!

  • My God ....what a fantastic Line-up ! Nick and Simon at the heights of creativity..David Gilmour on guitar ...Sting on backing vocals and beautiful and luxiourious 80`s production :))))))))

  • I loved this album, bought it on audio casette and played it til both sides played together! lol x

  • Deep

  • Oh jeez...memories are flooding my head. I loved this song, and Sting rocked it even more. Haunting but sexy.

  • Pssssssssssss...

  • This song is better then sex!

  • @FLAduranie ¡lol!

  • as a fan of Duran Duran.....yes, I knew this was undeniably Simon LeBon's voice pushing a new band.....this was my fave tune.....Lady Ice a close second...and then......

  • @evensteven300k just a more melodic duran duran I think, I loved this side project almost as much as duran duran

  • That little splash of Sting in the background just makes this song that much better.

  • One of the greatest songs from one of the greatest albums ever!

  • THANKS FOR POSTING! WOW HAS BEEN SO SO LONG SINCE I HEARD THIS!

  • I WAS A DEVOTED DD FAN AND STILL AM TO THAT FACT ...AT THE TIME I WAS A BIT CONCERNED WHEN THE BAND HAD THERE TEMPORARY VENTURES EG ARCADIA AND THE POWERSTATION BUT IT WENT TO SHOW WITH TRACKS LIKE THIS THAT THEY HAVE AN UN QUESTIONABLE TALENT UNLIKE THE NO MARK WANAB POPSTARS OF THIS MODERN ERA......OR IS THAT JUST ME.........

  • @MrNEKTAJOHNDD It's not just you......I agree totally. DD are legends of our time.

  • Love this!!!! This was my fave off this album.

  • to me Arcadia will always be the dark, sultry, sexy side of Duran....

    Durantastic!!! xxx

  • tha next step that Duran should av took..seen em 4 times b4 they split..not keen on seein tha revival??

  • I was amazed by Election Day but the rest on this album I am very disappointed with

  • Outstanding song; outstanding album........

  • This is the album I would take on a desert island, I've been listening to it for 24 years now.

  • I still have the LP...after all this time, still great.

  • Amazing! Second voice-Sting, Guitar-David Gilmour, Are you need something else?

  • does anybody know simon and nick brought in a couple of special friends for this song? David Gilmore (guitar obviously) and Sting (backing vocals)

  • @gimpslave1 Funny, you mispelled him David Gilmore, but it is GILMOUR. Actually Gilmore is a jazz-fusion guitarist. This leads me to add that jazz-fusion pioneer Herbie Hancock plays the synth solo at 3:46 (when you see Simon with a panflute),

and fusion legend Mark Egan (ex Pat Metheny) is on bass !

  • @gimpslave1 and that's pino palladino from Paul Young's band on fretless bass

  • Sting did backup vocals btw....

  • So Red The Rose is one of the best albums made. It gained little recognition because of who they were. But Duran Duran was not only a great band but changed music. Arcadia just proved that these guys were more talented than we knew. I loved Arcadia!

  • i love this song

  • My favourite album so red the rose'. such a culmination of duran duran as an evolved band - until they were duran duran again. Simon le bon is duran duran!

  • Bella canzone!!! Molti non sanno che la 2° voce e del mitico STING!

  • Great release. Some really beautiful songs. Totally underrated and forgotten by many.

  • Oh yes this is absolutely the most impressive album of DURAN DURAN and I think is absolutely the most emotionally in all their catalouge. I bought it in 1985 when I was 12 and I remember ALL the sensation that this STRONG album give it to me, I think is one ofe the most complete album of 80's, their BEST work and It's incredible How many people was involved in this project, very very nice.

  • This song is on 'So Red the Rose', which is actually from Arcadia. It's true that it was a side project, but my no means is it Duran Duran.

  • @Nyghtslave in my opinion this is the true follow up the duran duran cd to 7 and the ragged tiger ... not notorious ... and most die-hard duran duran fans agree ... this is the direction the band wanted to go ... except the usual whiney andy taylor ...

  • @Nyghtslave Although, by 1997, this would be considered Duran Duran, since Duran Duran's lineup had become "Anything with Simon and Nick in it."

  • So Red The Rose, My favorite album of all time! Love Arcadia!

  • Comment removed

  • Fantastic bass work by Mark Egan

  • acadia were influenced by japan on some of the arcadia music.only, they did it much much better than japan could as they had dave gilmour on guitar. pink floyd

  • had the album in my 20's, it was great then and still is today, just got the cd off ebay, new... love the 80's

  • Arcadia not Duran Duran...Simon LeBon with Nick Rhodes...John Taylor did a stint Andrew Taylor went on to do their own thing with Robert Palmer and Powersataion for one album.

  • John also did some work on Arcadia tho.

  • So Red The Rose, the best album Duran Duran Never did ;-)

Its so brillant and elegant in its own way.

I saw them paly Election day in Edinburgh last year - grillant!!

  • @kluran totally agree.. love it.

  • ˙5 STARS!!!!!

  • awesum song

  • the album is great. no fillers...recording is crap though. it would be nice to release a digitally remastered version

  • agreed. underestimated. this cassette took me through some great days way back when.

  • David Gilmour on guitar.

  • And Sting on back-vocals.

  • So Red The Rose was a perfect album. Such a divine song is this. Thanks for posting this vid. I'd never seen it before.

  • EXCELLENT!

  • Absolutely brillaint tune, mixed with Sting's voice and David Gilmour's Fender guitar!

  • Great song by a great band

  • GREAt album, FANTASTIC SONG!!!!

  • My fave album of all time. Wish the 2 of them would do a follow - up now. They're the true heart of Duran Duran.

  • The Arcadia lp is one of my fave at all. Great songs, so new wave, and great graphic art.

    They are so underestimated.

  • This song should have won a grammy. When I think of all the absolute CRAP that has won grammy's over the years, and they have NEVER acknowledged the talent in this or Duran Duran (other than the *token* grammy for best video). UGH!!! And, for that matter, DD DESERVES TO BE INDUCTED INTO THE HALL OF FAME AS WELL.

Arcadia was BRILLIANT. So are Duran Duran. And, in my opinion, So was The Power Station.

    All three are SERIOUSLY UNDERATED.

  • AMEN! AND YES!

  • The best "So red the rose" track.

  • Great song ... great performance by Simon (after how many takes?) ... great back by Sting ... an amazing fretless bass line ...

  • @calle68

  • LOVED this side project band. Wish they did more records!

  • lets not forget thats the all mighty STING doing backing vocals

  • Oh, I love this song. So timeless, classic.

  • i think that is David Guilmour playing in this song among the guy from roxy music too

  • Yes it's Gilmour.

  • It's hard to have a favorite song off of the "So red" album, but if I had to choose, I think that this would be it....beautiful song.

  • Comment removed

  • sting back vocals

  • The best album Duran Duran never made

  • the best video from ARCADIA, I think.

    I always love this song.

  • I've always liked the bass in this.

  • the bass is fretless played by a session guy called mark egan, you can find him on the internet, awesome hey ! :)

  • just beautiful

  • semplicemente favolosa

  • mark egan is credited as the bass player and you can hear sting.not sure about drums i know rodger played but how much.still blows me away after all these years

  • So Red the Rose is included by the critics as one of the greatest pop albums.

  • @bma473 Don't know much critics although I SURE as HECK have it in my glove compartment.

  • Just to clear the point, Alex Sadkin died July 25, 1987 (age 35) in Nassau, Bahamas in a car accident. He had just finished the album "Boom Crash Opera". Duran Duran's song "Do You Believe in Shame" was in his honor.

Colin Thurston died of on January 15, 2007 of an undisclosed illness.

  • A very clever, underrated album, that seems timeless to those who know it, like me. Very original, shame they didn't receive more credit for this work, but then, i guess that makes it all the more special..

  • couldn't agree with you more on that. such musical heavyweights playing on this album...sting, david gilmour (pink floyd), carlos alomar (david bowie), herbie hancock, grace jones and some of the most awesome sessions players ever. one could technically consider this a duran duran album. (anyone remember pop trash? that was only nick and simon)

  • @wozajericho I completely agree my friend. When I remember it I was not sure I was going to find it at all in here!!!! Really quality work on this album!!!!!

  • the best song in the entire LP

  • Alex Sadkin died in a car accidient, not AIDS. Still sorely missed as he did some excellent work.

  • Seriously? Alex died in a car accident? Wow. So sorry to hear that. He clearly contributed much to the music community.

  • He died? i didn't think that, i thought it was only Colin Thurston, how did Colin die?

  • Comment removed

  • david gilmour also added some guitar on that record...

  • HERMOSO

  • sublime melodies

  • incredible ...fantastic arcadiaaaaaaaaa

  • I think it`s time for a CD / DVD release with all 12" Versions, B-Sides and videos from ARCADIA`s SO RED THE ROSE. Still brilliant and so fantastic songs on it.

  • awewsome video .

    Great sound Lightfoot !

  • They did Roxy Music proud.

  • This is still my favourite Arcadia song. Sting's background vocals add a soulful almost mournful compliment to Simon's.

Dang LightfootLyric! This was exactly what I needed to hear right now! :-)

  • Wow, I forgot how many memories I have that surfaced just listening to this song.

  • An Absolute Classic!

  • Love this and most arcadia songs, though, did not like power station much.

  • I forgot how absolutely GREAT this song is!

  • Simon was sooooooooooooo hot...

  • Yes the PROMISE!!

  • Nick is sooooo beautiful.

  • You're so beautiful.

  • you guys should check out the cover of this song (synched with this video) by Novembre.

  • thats how i found this song its amazing the novembre version this one is very good too

  • Sting is credited w/ backup vocals on the album. Alot of other big names contributed to the album too. Check out the wiki page for more details.

  • And David Gilmour is the one playing the guitar in this song.

  • i read that sting did the backup vocals to this song

  • true.

  • Magic voice, great song, fantastic group! I love Simon and Duran Duran!!!! UF! Cuántos recuerdos! Esta música me llega hasta el alma!

  • Love his voice in this song. Wow.

  • This song rules. :]

  • I definitely prefer The Flame

  • Ahhhh NICK! So hot!!

  • this is such an exelent song! His voice is pure magic..!

  • As I am listening I remember all my friends of that days and how much we enjoyed with Arcadia.

Only one of that friends is not here anymore but her son David who is my nephew is here to make understand that life goes on.

Marisa we will never forget you.

  • I love Arcadia and Duran Duran, this song is amazing. Thanks to share it :)

  • Served in the 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper at Ft. Bragg during Mid-Late 80's,I think it's hard for younger folks to understand how on edge we were with the USSR. I sincerely believe some of the problems we are dealing with now came from the Soviet Union falling. Back then, it was very intense, but there where 2 superpowers fighting proxy wars, keeping things in check. When USSR fell, that's when it went to crap. Love the music..God Bless all :)

  • I had a "Russia Sucks" bumper sticker on my Trapper Keeper!

  • its certainly influenced by the late roxy era. a bit like "same old scene" but slower tempo

  • Well, it's no secret that Duran Duran were influenced by and admired roxy Music quite a bit. So it's not surprising! ;-)

  • OMG!!! I was born in 1980 and NEVER knew this video!!!

  • This is one of the best songs on perhaps their best album, pure magic

  • lol I have Aracadia on tape...bought it for like a quater at a used book and music store. I love this song, best of the album.

  • Simon is a poet..I love his lyrics!! Great song!! Yes..I have this album!

    X

  • I agree whole-heartedly. I love the entire album. This song in particular.

    It's such a beautiful song...

  • Who played Bass on this record. Was it Mark Egan?

  • They had many players, Sting was one of them. I think that's him playing fretless on this song.

  • It is Sting, that's him singing with Simon in the chorus.

  • It was definately Mark Egan. Sting only sang backing vocals. Herbie Hancock on keys, and Dave Gilmour on some of the guitar.
