I love this song!!! I remember when mum & dad use to crank this song and make all us dance and make out we were at a disco dancing in 2 lines.. Hahaha!! Good Memo's...
Excellent tune that it is, "There It Is" reached # 5 on the UK pop chart.
In the early/mid 80s a lot of funk-ish music crossed from the R&B chart to the US / UK pop chart. AND vice-versa.
David Bowie's "Let's Dance" got to # 14 on the US R&B chart in 1983.
U.S. Funk diva Melba Moore's "Love's Comin At Ya" reached #15 on the UK pop chart. A few more examples, the US R&B Chart: "Shock the Monkey", "Miss Me Blind" "Out of Touch."
You may find that it is worth the time to take a look and listen at the song lists that have been posted to Itunes Ping that meld together rhythmically & stylistically compatible early/mid 80s R&B/funk songs and early/mid 80s synth pop/new wave songs. Lots of music that was either forgotten or not ever learned of but was very enjoyable or would be very enjoyable if it was rediscovered or discovered for the 1st time by people that enjoy this type of music. People like you?
I have researched these music categories for the past 9 years
and I have rediscovered tunes I had forgotten about or I discovered
new tunes that totally deserved the time it took to discover them.
In Itunes Store or Itunes Ping if you use the search terms "electrofunk" (as a single word) or "80s funk" the search result shall produce several lists that have "electrofunk" or "80s funk" in the playlist name in the "Playlist" category at the low left corner of the search result.
These lists have songs that (1) you may have heard before and enjoyed but forgotten or (2) songs that you may enjoy now but you have not heard before. These lists also include album cuts that were not released as singles and songs from lesser known yet solid groups/soloists such as Fatback, Kashif, Laid Back, D Train, Boys Don't Cry, and Dynasty.

hmm..puzzled here..this track was very present for me and my peers back in the day..however, there isn't a U.s. charting for this tune on any of the billboard charts???Used to hear this on radio a lot, too...i'm stumped on this one except to say that billboard is largely in-accurate.
@lewisner : I'm in the U.s. and shalamar was huge here. They had a lot fewer singles chart on the Billboard pop/top 100 than they did on the specialized r&b american chart, however. 'there it is' was not a hit even on the r&b 100, and i'm begining to wonder if it were ever released as a single here. It appears that it was a single in the uk and did very well. This puzzles me to no end!!?? the song was overlooked majorly by the club djs too..!!??i Better song imho than some other shalamar tunes
@DjJohnnyM68 I looked on the Wikipedia page for Shalamar and according to their discography this song reached No 5 in the UK pop chart but for America there are no chart positions shown so I guess it wasn't released there as a single. You must have heard it being played from the album?
@lewisner I heard it a lot on WENN-FM back in the day..they were quite out -of-the box , obviously, cuz most stations follow singles charts?? They didn't. There were certain times of day where on WeNN there were blocks of house music and other blocks of rap . They played stuff you wouldn't hear anywhere else. this held true for the disco era of the 70s, the post disco era when 'there it is' was popular and up thru the late 80s where house and rap started coming in.
I was serving time in Brixton prison, during the 80's. My good mate Roger came to visit one day, with his girlfriend, Janet. She smuggled in a cassette of disco classics, inside her vagina and we used to listen to it in our cell at night. This song was on it. Happy times.
Moonwalk was being performed clear back in the 40's or 50's. There are old clips of it being done by an ol musician from down south. It was on a documentary. They claimed that MJ watched and studied those moves to perfect his.
shalamar is the deal im only 25 but i envy that disco generation for songs like this then soultrain had to get all hip hopish wtf i agree with Don Corealious even though i wouldn't be allowed in due to me being white this song makes me fuckin groove and thats what music should do this new shit doesnt appeal to me my bad for the spelling
@jc48073 what a silly comment, Soul Train was Multi-ethnic, multi racial, it just so happened many of the white dancers were often put in the corners and the camera never focused so much on them, as they were not always necessarily the strongest dancers.
Reminds me of Memorial Day weekend in Wildwood, N.J. 1982, ..... me and my South Philly italian girl, going to the beach in the morning, dancing the nite away at the Sundance and then getting pizza at John's pizzeria, at 2:30 am. Those were great times that I will never forget. great music, good pizza and a great girl !!!
Since when did MJ become the topic of discussion here? Does it matter who taught who the Moonwalk? MJ was a wonderful entertainer. When people try to insinuate where he got his dance moves from, it's like trying to take away his credibility. Michael was born with a God-given gift to dance. Dancing and music is in his soul and no one, absolutely, no one can take that way from him. And for the record, most entertainers get at least some of their dance moves from someone else.
@barnesfam barnesfam, good point, everybody learns, no human being starts walking the second they drop out of or from the womb, natural talent shows the difference, everybody dances and when MJ dances the difference is clear.
@barnesfam AND ALSO...Michael was FOREVER telling everyone that he saw some 'street kids' doing the 'moonwalk',and was so transfixed he got them to teach him right there and then!!So...basically,the same old cliche retains it's relevance...which is: "you pays yo money and you make yo choice"...end of!!Credit where credit is DUE man...and thass 'all she wrote'...!!
@barnesfam I C ur point. But I find it is very important 2 mention where these things come from.Way 2 many artist of color r not credited 4 their contributions n the music industry.Songs r stolen & sometimes inspiration goes uncredited. It takes nothing away from MJ 2 say he learned The BACK SLIDE from Jeffrey. But from what I know MJ has never said a word about Jeffrey teaching him anything. It's great that Jeff can get that spot light & even jeff has said the MJ's amazing & he learn a lot from MJ
@Majorjoy6565 And I may interject that Daniels has NEVER mentioned HE learned bodypoppin' and how to BACKSLIDE aka Moonwalk from The Electric Boogaloos, Cooley Jaxson, Casper "Geron"Candidate after they PERFORMED on Soul Train back in the day and many of other LA streetdancers in LA who are also known for working with Michael Jackson who I may add was more than one dance move dating back to The Jackson 5 and acknowledged being influeneced by Astaire, Kelley, Jackie Wilson and James Brown
@barnesfam The problem is that many fans that may not necessarily be old enough to have experienced the scene (I'm talking the culture linking dances, to genres, to music, to artists, to clubs, or come from a mainstream introduction to it, don't have a clue that MJ's greatest talent (aside from his own obviously) was getting skilled dancers & developing that many moves commonly used by the everyman in clubs, streets, block parties, whatever. So a Noob saying "MJ did this or that is a misnomer"
@Khultan it is a real professional guitar but nothing u see or seem to hear is real including the singing as well, it was a sing along program, the music was being played from the cd and they were acting along, you get it?
@kofiata Yo, I'm here for a minute and I just wanted to say that I thank you for the infomation you shared. I see you have experience playing the guitar. I'm learning that instrument as well. I've got a Stratocaster.
@Khultan am happy, am a musician, i play keyboards bass and guitar, am happy you are into music and the guitar helps very much especially in composing own songs, have you checked my sight? am also working hard towards stardom, thats every musician`s goal, isn`t it?
@kofiata I believe you, Kofiata. I am into music and if you check my channel, you'll see my extremely simple guitar playing. I LOVE MY GUITAR. I have 2, the other is a bass Epiphane guitar. I used to have an accoustic. It was $300.00. It was given away by mistake. : ( Stardom? That's going to be tough, Kofiata. A lot of the music nowadays seems bland and mediocre.
@kofiata Well, I'll be here for a minute. I'll subscribe to ya, how's that? I listen to all kinds of music but music these days don't seem to interest me that much. I have mixed interest in 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s music. The kind where you can actually dance to.
@Khultan i`ll be happy for subscriptions, yeah ive got the same taste like you, i try to play Ghanaian old time rythms and advance it. i dont copy anyway, thanx for the chat, ill be expecting ya subscriptions, thanx in advance.

Moonwalk was being performed clear back in the 40's or 50's. There are old clips of it being done by an ol musician from down south. It was on a documentary. They claimed that MJ watched and studied those moves to perfect his.

shalamar is the deal im only 25 but i envy that disco generation for songs like this then soultrain had to get all hip hopish wtf i agree with Don Corealious even though i wouldn't be allowed in due to me being white this song makes me fuckin groove and thats what music should do this new shit doesnt appeal to me my bad for the spelling
jc48073 1 year ago

TheMrMarilyn 10 months ago
@barnesfam I C ur point. But I find it is very important 2 mention where these things come from.Way 2 many artist of color r not credited 4 their contributions n the music industry.Songs r stolen & sometimes inspiration goes uncredited. It takes nothing away from MJ 2 say he learned The BACK SLIDE from Jeffrey. But from what I know MJ has never said a word about Jeffrey teaching him anything. It's great that Jeff can get that spot light & even jeff has said the MJ's amazing & he learn a lot from MJ
Majorjoy6565 7 months ago
@Majorjoy6565 And I may interject that Daniels has NEVER mentioned HE learned bodypoppin' and how to BACKSLIDE aka Moonwalk from The Electric Boogaloos, Cooley Jaxson, Casper "Geron"Candidate after they PERFORMED on Soul Train back in the day and many of other LA streetdancers in LA who are also known for working with Michael Jackson who I may add was more than one dance move dating back to The Jackson 5 and acknowledged being influeneced by Astaire, Kelley, Jackie Wilson and James Brown
nuthinbutclassics 6 months ago

@Khultan am happy, am a musician, i play keyboards bass and guitar, am happy you are into music and the guitar helps very much especially in composing own songs, have you checked my sight? am also working hard towards stardom, thats every musician`s goal, isn`t it?
kofiata 1 year ago
@kofiata I believe you, Kofiata. I am into music and if you check my channel, you'll see my extremely simple guitar playing. I LOVE MY GUITAR. I have 2, the other is a bass Epiphane guitar. I used to have an accoustic. It was $300.00. It was given away by mistake. : ( Stardom? That's going to be tough, Kofiata. A lot of the music nowadays seems bland and mediocre.
