I must be one of a few Magnetic Fields fans that actually DOES NOT find this song funny at all. The first time I heard it I pictured a man that had callously fallen out of love with his wife, abused and taken her for granted for years and eventually ended up killing her just as cold. It is quite depressing to me, particularly if you have ever been in the position of the woman asking the questions in the song, asking if someone still loves you. Either way everyone has their own interpretation.

Not to offend fans of the Magnetic Fields, but while the lyrics are quite creative and interesting, their musical talent is TERRIBLE! Send these guys to music school so they can learn how to sing and play in KEY!, IN TUNE! The reason why people laugh is because the lyrics are artful the music sucks! Hey, Magnetic Fields: Tune your friggin' guitar and learn how to sing in key with it and you are on to something. Learn the fundamentals rookies and your lyrical messages will resonate much better.

yeah send them to GIT so they can shred better. The guitar is slightly out of tune in this clip but its not like they dont know HOW to tune up. and the singing is fine. Tuning is an issue for anyone playing live music, but if you are more concerned than tuning than communicating to people and moving them emotionally, then you are just another tool. Something I'll wager they've done more successfully than you ever have or will.

The crowd laughter bugs me. I mean, sure, these songs are witty and clever, but it just kind of cheapens the songs when they laugh after every goddamn line. Part of the coolness about the Fields is that they handle serious issues with a self-deprecating attitude. But, the issues are still clearly serious. Here, the audience just makes it all seem like a joke, which is kind of sad.
