Maybe some random things happened in the movie, but isn't that in every movie? It would be very tiring if they focused on the story the whole time.
And I think most of the things in the movie were explained. Like the fake house was a model and they didn't die because when something gets at it's worst point it always gets a lot better. And they were talking in that basement thingie for a long time. They made that very clear. It was over when they got outside.

Making interesting things happen is what movies are all about. I enjoyed this film: it was a parable and at the same time scary and disturbing by being suggestive, not gory.

I think what it tried to do was give you that "War of the Worlds"...

I think the movie had potential but it failed miserably. In plot (convenient, nonsensical and forced) and in acting skills (WHAT HEAVENS NO).
Might have made a good book though.
Anyways, your review is similar to how I felt.
