I was a Harvey resident a long time ago. Lived on Myrtle Ave. in an apt. that my Uncle took care of there and my G'ma and G'pa lived there on Myrtle. I remember when the Dixie Square Mall was built, I was so happy we got such a nice shopping center. Loved Harvey my first born daughter was also born in Harvey. I really miss the old town.
Oh, here ya go... (from a taxpayer-financed Harvey Station Plan, 2005):
"The City of Harvey has planned a multi-faceted revitalization effort for its Downtown area, to transform the area into a prosperous and vibrant hub of economic and civic activity serving the South Suburbs. A key component to restoring Downtown Harvey as a bustling and pedestrian friendly center of community life is a strong vision and local commitment to a comprehensive implementation program. "
Really…did 2/3rds of this street burn? Was it torn down for parking in an idiotic attempt to "save" it? What do the descendants of these folks have planned to restore their community? Anything?

And to think: it all started with that act of vandalism on the sidewalk in 1954!

I live in Harvey today and I am really sad at what it has become. Thank you so much for this! It's nice to see the history!

@ChynaFox
Why did the people of Harvey let it get the way it is now? That's the real question, all joking aside.
