hey people i just got a 124cc thumpster and im only going to ride it 5 mins down the road, was wondering is it alright to put the seats down in my car and put it in the back cuase pitbikes are little..cuase its not worth strapping it for 20mins un strapping then doing it later when i get picked up???
ilya2222 - Yeah, I tend to turn my head really quickly just to check. Of course, it would be best if I kept the mirror. I have another mod that uses the mirror differently, so I'll have to make that video in the future...
@z98908 i made a moung for the fueltank. no vibrations, steady shooting, but its only for getting someone doing a wheelie next to you, the camera dosent reach over the windscreen.
hmm. Velcro, better than duct tape. But in my experience w/ my bulky old cam if the cam is tight against the bike, footage is too shaky for my taste (every road bump "registers"; your helmet cam is smoother). Perhaps the newer cam tech resolves that?
Is there a video where you used the setup that way (sorry if I've missed it) with your little cam?
In the meantime, I'll incorporate the velcro idea in a home-made harness to hold my old cam and see what happens, so thanks for that. :D
upway2I8again - If you look at my channel's playlist, you'll see one entitled Vlogging Equipment and Camera Mounts. I didn't do anything fancy - all I did was put a small handheld digital camera (with movie mode) inside my helmet. It's not hard to do if you have a small enough camera to fit it in your helmet. Anyways, the body and neck act as a shock and vibration absorber, so the footage is smooth and clear. It's quite surprising, and I recommend you try it.
HawkeSHRsr - you should definitely try it. After all, it doesn't cost you much - just the time to cut the velcro and rig it up to your existing camera. I know it's opened a lot of doors to people who have been pondering getting a tank camera mount, but just aren't ready to drop $75 on a fully machined one.
Yep, had seen that and will likely go that route if my Canon PS A540 completely falls apart. Just wondered if you had footage from the V570 in the forward position using your Velcro mount; interested in the image stability of the cam in that situation.
BTW, looking at my bike just now, my mirrors are wrong for this neat mount of yours, but I could easily use the stems of my front turn signals to Velcro my cam to. Not as handy to reach, but at least the angle would be right! :D
upway2I8again - Who says the mirror needs to face the back of the camera? Have you considered facing the mirror upwards towards the sky, and have the camera rest on the mirror like a table? I've done that too, and that's also worked wonders.
Gr8! *Where's the footage, please?* lol! Just wondering if your V570 handles image stabilization from the bumps and jars transferred from the bike better than my A540.
My mirrors are not hand-swivelable like yours... need wrenches to do more than very slight adjustment and they currently are angled where forward-facing the cam would shoot to the sides, but will keep the table-top method in mind as well. Thanks again. :)
upway2I8again - Take a look at 0:58 seconds and you can see the footage of the guy doing the wheelie. As for vibrations & shake, yes, I think the Kodak v570 does a great job minimizing the effects of camera shake. I've tried other cameras, and I haven't seen one that does quite a good job as the Kodak.
Bingo - thanks (sorry I missed it, sometimes people just have to draw me pictures, lol). *Very* nice image stabilization IMO.
Am thinking maybe a rubbery wedge might align a camera to the right POV on my mirror... very much looking forward to riding weather to try all of this out. Thanks again for the vids. :)
Simple, Sturdy, Secure..... Brilliant!! Why didn't you think of that before, after all it is cross between your jet-helmet visor mount and your bendy mirror sucker mount that you invented years ago, lol!
Do you think it might also work with a piece of foam-rubber instead of sticking a piece of velcro on the glass?
CrustyBiker - I really don't know if the foam-rubber thing will work, but lately I've been finding a lot of cheap and easy fixes. I'd like to see you try that out, now that you got me really curious. Yeah, that bendy mirror sucker was just too shaky, eh? hehehe
When I say a piece of foam-rubber, I did mean also with the straps round but the rubber just in between the camera and mirror to stop sliding, fraction or scratching etc, but thinking about it, your velcro system seems better because it has a fail-safe incase one or both straps shake loose... I was just worried about how hard it would be to clean all the adhesive off the mirror when you take the velcro pad off ?
CrustyBiker - The bubble machine was on the Yamaha R1. I sold that bike to someone who is now my friend. When I did have it, that bike just brought tons and tons of joy.
As for the mirror mount shooting forward, I haven't shot front footage with it, but I'm sure it's pretty do-able.
Also, the velcro straps on the mirror mount does not shake off. It is really overkill, since it grips so well. The other thing you can do is to put a lanyard over the mirror arm as a safety measure.
You can often wait for fabric stores to have a sale... I've picked up YARDS of velcro for just a few dollars. Rather, Koi has and I was forced to go shopping with her... but anyway, it's another option.
ive done that (mounted my camera facing back at me, in a video i did last year at livevideo.. the two downsides are that like you said you lose your mirror, but if you face it back towards you its alittle bit close to your body you know. I remember that one video you did with that big stick thing hanging off the front of your ninja with the camera mounted way out there that was pretty cool angle too.
HAIONSTRESS - I lost all those videos when my hard drive crashed a few months ago. *snif*... I have since created an intermediate solution with the thing on a long tripod head that stands about 9 inches high. I've got a big ride to test this on... more on that in the near future.
JimJamJimboMcFimbo - Any hardware store or Walmart has Velcro, or Hook & Loop fasteners. You can get them with the adhesive back or the plain non-adhesive backs.

And if you don't need front vison either, you can put the velcro on your helmet vizor!
Just kidding. What I did is strap a "gorilla pod" to the back of my seat (heavy SLR camera), but I get vibrations.
