On 16 December 1971, General Jagjit Singh Arora General-Officer-Commanding In-Chief of the Indian Army accepted surrender by Pakistani General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi and 93,000 Pakistani forces. This was the largest number of POWs since World War II. Pakistan lost 140,000sq.km of area.
70s and 80s were the decades when US wanted to curb the Russian influence in Afghanistan. Had to partner Pakistan for nurturing Taliban & others to fight Russians. So to appease Pakistan they would counter India at all occasions .. as simple as that. Everyone thought India was forming a nexus with Russia like Pak-US or China-US nexus were perceived. West used to heavily criticize India then, sometimes irrationally. Times have changed.
amazed to come across this, US bullying India, because it was in the pockets of oil companies & Saudi, and still is, and supporting dictatorships all over the world! Whole of M/E, Pakistan, most of S/A, lost of african dictatorships.
