@Muffy2314 Joanie and Arlene did sound a bit alike, and happened to be friends, too. They and a few other women from their circle did yoga together in the 50s, long before it ever got popular. They both worked pretty extensively in radio, too (as did Bill Cullen), so their paths crossed pretty frequently.
How on earth could Robert Q. Lewis set off someone's gaydar? He wore glasses and you cant see his eyelashes. You know its the eyelashes that give 'em away. I figured that out while watching South Park a few months ago. Only the gay men on that catoon have eyelashes depicted.
I always wondered if Robert Q. Lewis was of the "other persuasion". I'm not knocking him but my gaydar is usually 95% correct. Notice too that back then people could smoke cigarettes on tv and it wasn't a sin. This was a great show and I remember watching it GSN when it was a good channel.
Here's as much as I know about that: Lewis was a frequent guest-host on Arthur Godfrey's show. Godfrey, who was a bit of a jerk off-camera, once made a very subtle quip about Lewis, saying "I wonder what the Q stands for," with everybody who knew them knowing what Godfrey was hinting at.
@AdamNedeff Hey, Adam. Great stuff here. This was a classic and very funny episode. And you were correct, Arthur Godfrey was a bit of a jerk off camera, some would go so far as to say he was MORE than a bit of a jerk. Arthur Godfrey could be and WAS very egotistical.
This was during the period {when Bendix appliances was the show's alternate sponsor} in 1952 when the panel on "THE NAME'S THE SAME" began to "fluctuate"; Bill Cullen appeared a few times as a guest panelist, before Abe Burrows was replaced by another regular panelist....
Ms.Alexaner is best remembered as the voice of"Lois Lane" on "The Adventures Of Superman"radio Show and"The Superman"Movie and tv cartoons.

God ol' obnoxious Abe. When his B'way career tanked, the line of gratified witnesses extended from Florida to Maine.
