  • Wow this ep is so trippy.

  • Bones' eyes match his shirt :D

  • I like how Bones was flirting with Miranda as she left.

  • this medusan is played by Diana Muldaur, who also played Dr Katherine Pulaski on star trek the next generation.

  • @brusselstarlight: as well as Dr. Ann Mulhall, the astrobiologist that was mysteriously summoned as part of the landing party to the transporter room by aliens and became a host body to one of them - Sargon's bride. Season 2, Episode 20. She was even more striking in that episode. Amazing how different she c ame off as Dr. Pulaski though her features and voice remained the same.

  • I'm not gonna lie, Spock looks cool in those goggles. xD

  • When the Indian girl is knocked out by the stoning, she is lying to the side of the opening to the interior of the oblisque. When Kirk hits the musical notes necessary and the oblisque opens, she is directly on top of it.

  • Spock sounds as though he had a cold in this episode.

  • Mirandasings08

  • Kirk did not have on a visor when they left, and should have lost his mind at that point, Spock had his on. and even if he did have one on Kirk is not a Vulcan or blind.

  • Overactive imagination, perhaps, but I see a faint trace of Paris Hilton in her face at this age?

  • @LincolnLLoyd OMG yes I see it too

  • haha i thought the lady was the ambassador at first then i was like oh shit its the thing in the box hahaha

  • Damn, Pulaski was actually kinda fine back in the day :)

  • Oh my God! Scotty in a plaid and kilt has to be one of the coolest things in all of Star Trek!

  • Leonard Nimoy's eyebrows deserve first billing.

  • medusan........wow.........no comment

  • Spock: Her mind must be completely occupied for me to do this.

    Kirk: YES!!

Seduction is his answer to everything

  • ...They've gone plaid!!!

  • This is the best episode of the series. Still, the gents take to calling Dr. Jones "the girl," and Dr. Jones is at least 40.

  • @goback3spaces Sorry but your wrong, Diana Muldaur was 28 when this was made. When she played Dr. Polasky in TNG she was about 47. Birth name: Diana Charlton Muldaur Gender: Female Date of birth: 19 August 1938.

  • @BondFreek Hooray for Diana, but Dr. Jones (the character) doesn't look 28. Is the implication of your message that a woman of 28 should be called a girl? If so, I agree with you. I do it all the time.

  • @goback3spaces Oh good. Why don't you tell that to Diana? I think she would love the idea that she looked 40 when she was 28. Get real. She was young and extremely gorgeous.

  • @BondFreek Gimmie a break, will ya? I prefer to end this by noting that I'm a big Palin fan too. How about Gingrich/Palin '12?

  • @goback3spaces I would prefer Palin/Gingrich '12. :-)

  • Kirk is so awesome he doesn't need the visor when they teleport the Medusian

  • dam. I was actually really hopeing theyd show a medusan

  • It's a shame so many episodes are so viciously misogynist - and have such terrible scripts. I can't help but thinking that with a minimum of script supervision/re-writing Star Trek would be even more highly regarded than it already is

  • 8:00 Looks like they're drinking the blue water in the vase.

  • 1:50 ahhh it's Doctor Polaski!!! haha

  • Scotty + Kilt = Awesome. enough said.

  • I need one of those visors for the hambeasts at the Trek conventions.

  • 35:47

    McCoy cringing. Lollerskates.

  • I gotta say, the banter between Spock and Bones is what makes the show.

  • Hey she was a Doctor for a little while on Next Gen

  • Dr. Jones ends up as Dr. Polaski in STNG.

  • @Bestmanme08 Excuse me "new"!

  • @Bestmanme08 Excuse me, ur a spammer!

  • Thank you CBS for the super short commercials. A much more enjoyable experience.

  • doctor pulaski! had no idea she was in stng and stos

  • Miranda was SUCH a Mary-Sue. Special gifts, beautiful, "brilliant", and has a deep secret. And all the guys are in love with her. I hate Mary-Sue's.

Anyone else like how Spock is revealing how he "really feels" about the crew. Kirk is his bff and he knows Uhura's name meaning and quotes love poetry to her? Suspiiiiicious ;) Spock's a genius but it still wouldn't make sense for him to learn a little Swahili without motivation *chuckle*

  • @Elfinesmom. Spock knows over a dozen different cultures including meanings of names. He is not in love with Uhura. Spock likes blonds. "All Our Yesterdays", "This Side Of Paradise" and "The Cloud Miners". All blond women, all Spock loved. Spock almost mated With Chapel in "Amok Time" (Scene: Chapel walked in to tell Spock that they were going to Vulcan, Spock talked about how it is illogical to deny attraction.)

  • @BondFreek I respect your opinion. I'm not really suggesting there was anything between them TOS, however, the new movie is canon and Spock's displays for Uhura in it trump his collective behavior this side of pon farr. Looks like chocolate really does intoxicate Vulcans.

  • I don't care what Paramount says or makes. The new movie is not canon. It was not produced by Harve Benet, Nick Myer, or DC Fontana. The movie was not executively consulted by the Rodenberry family. Everyone Gen Roddenberry left his legacy too had no say as to what was going to be made. Therefore Gen Rodenberry would not have approved of it. Therefore it is not canon. If Majel Rodenberry had known what they were doing, I doubt she would have loaned her voice to the movie.

  • @BondFreek Speculation. She did. Nichelle slept with Gene for awhile so her opinion counts. She said she always saw U&S as compatible. They make sense. Nimoy loves it. I think fans have an angels vs whores complex over Spock's sexuality. They want him to remain unattainable to keep him pure for their own fantasies. Well, Spock's got jungle fever and I've been infected.

  • @Elfinesmom. In the original script of "Platos Step Children" Kirk was going to kiss Uhura, but the censors were afraid of hate letters. So, the writers changed it to Spock and Uhura. Shatner defended the original author by using his reputation as a Self centered actor to get the original script back. He said to the sensors "If anyone is going to kiss Uhura it's me!" He even deliberately messed up the almost kissing shots by crossing his eyes.

  • @Elfinesmom. It was never about Uhura and Spock. Nimoy loves checks Nude photography pays jack sh#$. Nichelle's opinion does not count. I would not trust that woman's word at all. The so called affair did not come out till Gene Rodenberry was dead. PS Majel Rodenberry states that Gene never told her of any such affair. But did tell her about all the other women he dated. I trust Mrs. Rodenberry over any person who is trying to make a quick buck. PS. Jungle Fever is a racist comment.

  • @Elfinesmom PSS Majel Rodenberry did not know. She was kept out of the loop.

  • @BondFreek I don't care about Plato's Stepchildren. I know there was nothing between them in TOS. If you're going to call Nichelle a liar then there's nothing more for me to say. Now Nimoy's opinion doesn't matter because you're calling him money-hungry? I'm not buying any of your arguments. We haven't got Gene. Sad fact. Nichelle and Leonard are the closest thing we have to TOS approval and they're into it.

  • @Elfinesmom.Nichelle and Leonard are the closest thing we have to TOS approval WRONG. There is still Eugene Rodenberry JR., Rick Berman, Harve Benet & DC Fontana. He entrusted his legacy to them. They are the only ones who would know what he wanted. If you insist on including actors; there is still William Shatner, Walter Koenig, George Takei & (the only trekker to be cast by Roddenberry) Jonathon Frakes. They dont like the new movie. You can see it on their faces when people ask them.

  • @BondFreek I'm not pulling the race card on you like all the other U/S shippers do when someone doesn't like the pairing (although I suspect) so don't pull that crap on me. That's classic American slang that even Stevie Wonder incorporated into lyrics. It's a celebration!

  • @Elfinesmom. That "classic American slang" was started by racist ass holes. It was used to indicate that black people could not control their sexual drive anymore then an animal. I remember because I grew up in the 70s. Stevie Wonder wrote his song in attempt to change the meaning. It worked for some but not most. Even Steve Wonder got in trouble for his song. Stevie Wonder was not the first to try to change the meaning of racial slurs nor was he the last. It still does not work.

  • @BondFreek Heh. Actually it's about white people who can't control it. Get over it. You're not turning this into a race thing to a black girl who's supporting a mixed couple. Nice try.

  • @Elfinesmom. I'm not trying to start a racial fight. I'm just telling you it's a racial slur from the 70's. I'm 41 your 21; Two different generations. I was offended because I know the history of that phrase. It means that Blacks can't control their sex drive and if a white person kisses a black that white will become like an animal. It's hate speech. where do you think the phase Once you had black you never go back came from? Its all fear mongering. You don't see it and that's good.

  • @Elfinesmom. If I had not lived through it I might not have seen the real meaning my self. My point is back in the 70s it was like the N word today. Only Blacks could get away with saying it. I personally want all expressions indicating that one race is superior to another removed from all speech habits. Notice I said "habits" not make illegal. Making something illegal only encourages people to do it. Plus that would be unconstitutional.

  • @BondFreek We went from a conversation about the canonical value of the Star Trek movie to you telling me, a black woman, that I'm being racially insensitive for using the term jungle fever. You're calling Nichelle Nichols a pathological liar and saying that Leonard Nimoy was only involved in the new movie because he needed money. . . A rational conversation with you is no longer possible.

  • @Elfinesmom. I take offence at any racial slur; I don't care what race it comes from. Notice I don't mention my race. Thats because race is not important, but words do. I never wanted a race debate with you, I only asked you not to use that racial slur. Anyone else would have just apologized and moved on, but you indicated that you did not understand why I was offended. Thats why I explained it to you. You have every right to use it but remember others find it offensive.

  • @BondFreek I respect you as my elder but in NO generation is "jungle fever" worse than the N word. This conversation has degraded so much there's nothing left to discuss. I can't take part in this anymore. My apologies to anyone who's just trying to have some fun watching this episode and is getting bogged down by a race debate. Spock has been attracted to more than blondes and the solid new movie has depicted him with a black girl- HE'S NOT COMING BACK.

  • @Elfinesmom. Name one episode where Spock is kissing some one who is not blond. Kirk Kisses green women, Blonds, brunets, Indians and Uhura. Chekov kisses Blonds and Klingons. Sulu drools over brunets and Uhura. Scotty goes after blonds and brunets. Spock only blonds; Like father like son.

PS Star Trek is dead! Paramount killed it, the same way the killed Mission Imposable.

  • @Elfinesmom. I never said it was worse then the "N" word. Why can't you young people read? When I was your age knowing what you were reading was more important then spelling. It kept miss communication down to practically zero. Which intern kept violence down to just a shout or two.

  • @BondFreek "back in the 70s it was like the N word today." Semantics, Dear. I'm afraid kissing isn't the only indication of attraction. As spores and other weird interference of emotional control don't seem to matter to you I'll include all I can think of: T'Pring, the Romulan Commander in "The Enterprise Incident", that chick with the feathers in "Shore Leave", Zarabeth had brown hair, and I think he's jonesing for the jealous chick in this episode in his own controlled Vulcan way.

  • @Elfinesmom. He did not like T'Pring. The dancer was with McCoy. Look agian, Zarabeth is Blond. But you win with the Romulan Commander.

  • @Elfinesmom. OK, Zarabeth is dusty brown. the old copy I have made her look blond.

  • @Elfinesmom. You win. :-)

  • When I saw 'Star Trek voyager episode: "Threshold" I, thought about this one and wondered why, when Paris rerached warp 10 and could see everything he saw the Madusans he didn't come back crazy.

  • Most fans agree that that episode is not cannon because of later episodes, like the dinosaurs traveling faster then Trans-warp one and Borg Trans-warp path ways. Even the producers hated Threshold.

  • I like how they added the IDIC emblem just to make people buy the merch back then. Spock's necklace seems very random at the end as well.

And Kirk's worry over Spock. was very sweet. "And if he dies...and if HE dies..." he totally changed his thought...

  • When Spock smiled I melted inside. :D HE'S ADORABLE!

    "That's not Spock."

"You're suprised to find that I've read Byron, Doctor?"

    "That's Spock!" L.M.A.O.

  • @julielaughs14 Leonard Nimoy has a sexy smile and laugh...and voice.

  • It sounds like Spock had a cold in this episode

  • @howedelamitri

I agree. Still love his voice though! X3

  • @howedelamitri POOR SPOCK :-(

  • D8 I am guilty of laughing when Spock went insane.

  • scotty in a kilt!

  • I love the shots showing the thoughts of the people who were going insane, brilliant film making for such a low budget.

  • @12:44 Spock is like "Okaaaay."

  • I can't stand fans that trash the third season of TOS, but never criticize a single second of TNG. This episode, "Requiem for Methuselah, " The Tholian Web," and "Spectre of the Gun" are all pretty good. Of course, "Spock's Brain," and "Plato's Stepchildren" are awful!

  • 27:00 bow chica bow wow

  • DANG does kirk hit on anything that fookin moves? he has no shame?

  • @nerad137

    no

  • even in the origonal series that chick annoys me

  • it was unnecessary for us, because it certainly wasnt or our benefit that you wrote that. Any way I completely agree with you. But thats the original. TNG the women have more american looks

  • That last part of your comment, wanageeska, was quite unnecessary. The first part was true, though.

  • Also @ 44:19

    Miranda: That's a LIE!!

    Kirk: Ohh yes it is.

What, lol? He admits it to being a lie but then continues on as if he just said "no".

  • wtf @ 34:04 to 34:20

She goes in room, screams, comes back out completely normal saying "It seems I have no choice but to obey you." and then it does a close-up of Kirk's face that seems to be more detailed and super-serious than normal. Not to mention the weird camera angles in this entire episode.

Did the usual producers of the show get the flu or something when this was made? lol

  • 4:30 spock makes me think of a wild horse...

  • Am I the only one that really listens carefully to the beutiful background at the end of this episode. And throughout all the episodes ?

  • any excuse for scotty to wear a kilt

  • Star Trek was one of those shows that was cancelled while it was at it's peak. Therefore it became a legendary show.

  • The Editing is soo weird

  • everyone talks all kinds of bullshit, EXCEPT, what the episode talks about.

    WTF.

  • I really enjoyed the creative camera work in this episode. the fight in engineering, and when spock walked around that screen

  • The Enterprise seems to have drifted off to the LSD dream galaxy.

  • This is a weird episode.

  • she's disturbingly vulnerable

    man, what a woman!

  • Man, she is a young Dr. Pulaski! (or her grandmamama).

  • that's the same actress.....

  • your a great psychologist why don't you try being a women for a change?

grr... :) i think she's fine as a psychologist- find yourself a house wife if that's what you want dude.

    lol :P

  • back then a woman was a housewife

  • Jeez, is there anything humans can do that Vulcans can't do? Because there seem to be endless things that work the other way.

  • Comment removed

  • They CAN, they just choose not to. It's a cultural thing.

It just seems that Spock is immune to things that effect the rest of the crew frequently. There's very little that works the other way.

  • @scomiche Vulcans CAN lie

  • Vulcans can do all of those things. And any Vulcan who tells you that they are incapable of lying is lying. It's the best kept secret. Even to this point, Vulcans are not incapable of emotion. They actually train for many years to control their emotions. They feel them, they just have near perfect control them at almost all times...

  • @luccaskunk Are you a Vulcan?

  • 41:58 Classic!

The first half of Season 3 was awesome.

  • spock's eyebrow is just hillarious

  • why the kilt????

  • Dress uniform even today in Scottish regiments of the British army

  • yeah but... it's not very starfleet formal.

  • But it is formal for Scotty. And that is all that matters.

  • "Heart action stopped, cause unknown, respiration stopped, cause unknown, brain activity stopped, cause un- shall I go on?" lol, classic Bones

  • So the lady just said that somone wanted to kill another and they dismiss t with a laugh, and forget about it

  • BIG BIG acting in this one. Shatner at his best!

  • How many times do you think Bones has had to say, "He's dead Jim"?

  • god only knows

  • spock looks cool in those goggles :D

  • was cool when they brought her into STTNG,

have always enjoyed that some actors seem to be used over and over again.

  • Just like looking at someone welding

  • this is a better quality episode

  • I love the random creepy organ music...

  • Hey! Dr. Pulaski!

  • awesome cinematography! (despite it's incongruousness...)

  • I switched toothpaste to aquafresh, but this shields person still keeps hassling me, what should i do?

  • Just use firefox browser with Adblock Plus plugin added to it. I see no commercials.

  • Thanx, i'll try that, but i'll just quickly try switching to crest 1st tho, just in case that works.

  • fire fox ad blocker...

  • Comment removed

  • doesnt work.

  • Just because of how often I've seen that COlgate commercial, I'll never buy it again.. nor will I watch Brooke Sheilds on TV...She needs to GO TO her GO TO people and get somthing ELSE besides NET commercials... they're gettin' old fast...

  • Now that ending was just WRONG.... how was it that spoke needed a VISOR to watch the Embassador trasnsport but Kirk, whom was standing in the same room while the Ambassador transported did not WEAR OR NEED A VISOR? If You're going top be congruent witha story line they should have follpowed through to the end..

  • I believe the donning of the visor was more a symbolic gesture than a practicality.

  • "That's not Spock!" "That's Spock!" Classic Bones.

  • Best episode of the series. The scene in which Kirk convinces Miranda to save Spock in spite of her jealousy is a brilliant. Comparisons with Shakespeare would not be out of place.

  • He's dead, Jim D=

  • Whats in that box? Brooke Shields and her goto people? I'm going insane!

  • Same with the Brandy at the end of the dinner scene. Kirk pours himself a full glass, takes a sip, say's goodnight to McCoy and chugs the rest then all of a sudden next shot it's half full again.

  • We caught a good view of the transporter control panel in this episode. Instead of a computer display on there, they seem to have an old-style analog radar screen instead! Same thing at the front of the Bridge. They were pretty good at predicting other aspects of technology though.

  • The reason why Spock puts on the visor at the end was probably not to shield his eyes from any danger, but to see Dr. Jones' beauty for the last time as he saw her for the first time.

  • Whoa! Look at 37:55. Major editing gaff! Spock/Kollos at the helm. When we see the viewing screen of the barrier, it's still Sulu at the helm. I don't know how many times I've seen this episode, but I just discovered it.

  • "I spent four years on Vulcan studying their mental discipline."

"You poor girl." Bones, I love you so much.

    Also: Nice stunna shades, Spock.

  • 20:10 bad guy in red shirt head quarters= BAD

  • "he's dead jim" i feel like we hear that 3 times an episode

  • Use Firefox and download Adblock Plus as a add on. That gets rid of all the ads.

  • I love you for the Adblock recommendation. No more grabbing for the remote to mute the commercial! =D

  • Spock laughed!

    =D

  • Comment removed

  • why the heck does brooke shields need "go-to people" to tell her what toothpaste to use? these ads make her seem like an idiot!

  • I love catching all the continuity goofs. At 12:54 Kirk pours a last brandy. At 13:13 he take a sip. Still full. Then after some small talk with Bones at 13:43 he chugs the last sip. Then at 13:48 it's a quarter full again. I know. I know. I've seen these way too many times. But it's either that or start paying attention to the news again and I sure as fuck ain't about to make that mistake. Like The Beatles: Once a Trekkie, always a Trekkie...

  • That chick got to study with Vulcans... /jealous!!!!

  • wow great episode, interesting camera angles and editing, liked that actress playing miranda, thought it was great

  • I have the annoying commercial workaround. Write me for this simple and elegant solution.

  • lol, thers no such thing, the best u can hope for is to download the whole stream and edit out the adds urself, but its hardley simple OR elegant.

Failing that a swift boot up the backside of the CEO of CBS

  • download firefox and get the Add Blocker Plus addon. It removes all the adds from these episodes so you can just watch it from beginning to end without interruption.

Also, about the ending: Kirk doesn't have to wear the goggles because James T. Kirk is simply too awesome to allow something being ugly to drive him insane. That and the toupe grants him super human powers. Common knowledge really :D

  • I've never noticed how amazing Leonard Nimoy's teeth are until this episode. When he smiles, it's amazing.

  • the commercials are too loud. Youtube, fix this stupidity!

  • 1) mute the volume

    2) fast forward till the time slider is a lil way past the next ad marker

    3) rince and repeat 2 more times

    4) unmute the volume, rewind to start and watch in ad free peace

2 mins work at the beginning is worth it imho

  • The thingy that they're carrying looks like a cooler. Their might be some DR PEpper in there. :D

  • great episode, makes The Paradise Syndrome look like crap.

  • " I think that could be arranged..." Kirk is the man!

  • anyone know what this episode satires I know the one with the black and white aliens satires racism

  • "There's someone near by...thinking of murder!"

After she says that, look at Larry's expression at 11:35

    Guilty.

  • Sorry, it's around 11:33

  • I've found the missing TOS episodes. Anyone interested can email me and I'll send you the link.

  • I'm interested please can you tell me I hope you get this.

  • Backwards Kirk is a simple case of someone in editing flipping the negative. It happens. Like when you see a picture of Jimi Hendrix playing right-handed.

  • where's episode #4? 'and the children shall lead'

seems several episodes missing matter of fact.. what's the deal?

  • This episode was shot a little different than the others
