  • mayfield'S SONG IN HIROSHIMA??....

  • I chill to this song when I blaze :D lol

  • Timeless this song will never get old, from a time when music was good,

  • this might be the single, greatest musical performance ever captured on tape... hyland's platinum-blonde mullet, pink under-tee, the vibrant "Little Darlin's" stage, the crisp/pristine/soaring vocals, the EXUBERANT crowd of elders, and the rhythm guitarist's sly boogie half-way through the song! FLAT-OUT INCREDIBLE! not to mention, one helluva song...

  • This song I remember as a young lad carrying my transistor radio waiting for it to play, as well as all the other great songs of the70's

  • it was nice when you could sing without the hollering of thousands of girls in the room

  • I always liked the bass line after the chorus

  • Yeah, Brian if you're reading this....you should sell this version on a cd on your website. It rocks. The cats backing you up sound fantastic. And I know this is from the ninties, but damn....it kicks butt. Thanks....joel in tucson

  • THIS LIVE VERSION IS AWESOME!!!

  • still doing well after all these years!

  • All I can say is...... I miss the Great music from the 60's and 70's.. Music nowadays is SHIT...it's not even music...they go in concert and mouth the words. plus the songs are no longer from the Heart. OH!! i miss throse days of the 60's, but thanks to U-Tube..I get to relive the GLORY Days of MUSIC

  • In our haste to dub this version or that version as the best, we forget that most great songs help us to remember great performers, not the other way around. This song has been covered by at least 50 different artists and groups. The covers actually increase the reach and appeal of great music, thus widening it's audience even more. My personal favorite was by the boss, Bruce Springsteen. But no matter, good music cannot be forgotten . . . .

  • one of the greatest performances of all time

  • EXOTIC SONG.

    Lovely Lyrics.

    Aglow!

  • hes just brilliant how many modern singers will be able to do this in years to come?

    NONE.

  • great singer..prefer the slower tempoed studio version--but this is a gem for sure

  • chair dancing

  • cool, cool version here! del shannon produced the studio version, and that is one interesting recording! listen to it closely next time it's on the radio! great post, thanks!

  • While the Impressions version may be the benchmark.....Brian put a very fresh and contemporary sound to this song, which still holds up. Kudos! Nice performance!

  • Timeless,When music was music,great job

  • i like the performance he pulled it off

  • I just got an e-mail from Brian yesterday, he's still doing great and knockin them out with the oldies but goodies, truly a legendary american pop idol.

    Submitted by Julian Leal

  • IT GETS BETTER AS YOU LISTEN MORE!!!!!!!

  • Great rendition indeed....Love the original as well by Curtis and the Impressions...Thxs to U " newfilm97210 " for uploading that Gem!

  • Wow a good song, I remember listening to this song after school and dancing with the lovelys

  • Brian Hyland wqs great during his "hits" period....and has grown older graciously

  • all I can say is...8 R.A.P. SHIT lovers..don't know good music or a great song.

  • Are you kidding....listen to the Persuasions acapella. no comparison!!!

  • i think he is better as time goes by loved his performance

  • While I prefer the original, which is what I listened to during my teen years, this is a good sound that brings a great song to a different audience

  • I still love this song after all these years! He has an amazing soulful voice and incredible sex appeal!

  • Bryan Hyland a local boy from Woodhaven, Queens NY !

  • Never understood why usually the live version of a song was faster than the same performers studio version. I like both on this one.

  • Kind of hard to credit Brian Hyland as having the best version when he so closely copied the original 1963 recording by Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions. To write a song and interpret it on record takes lots more skill and creativity than hearing someone's work and redoing it. The difference between doing a painting from a blank canvas and doing a reproduction.

  • This song was 40 years ago no.8 in the world charts #brian #hyland

  • This song was 40 years ago no.8 in the world charts #brian #hyland

  • Great song! Thanks for sharing.

  • I feel GYPED after seeing this.

  • cudos to the make over he had since his Joker Went Wild days! an obscure talent for sure

  • Brian's studio version of this was THE BEST, blowin' any Impressions version out of the tub. However, the tempo here is way too fast, showing no love for the song.

  • @nachodaddy you must be kidding the Impressions WERE the best on that song.

  • @Tennisman81 Not kidding at all. If you don't like Brian's studio version, you must be kidding or tasteless. This version here is purty lame, but, I've seen the Impressions do some lame live stuff, as well. I talked with Curtis a coupla times while he was livin' in my hometown, he really liked Brian's version, as well.

  • He's still got it! Heading on over to iTunes to do some Hyland downloading!

  • there's 4 R.A.P. lovers, don;t know real music. poor souls.

  • SAaw Brian perform this song on Sat........still sounds great and not looking bad either!!!

  • Wonder what Brian is up to nowadays? How old is this guy?

  • @Twom44 I want to say he was born in 12 November 1943, so that would make him 66. He has a web site.

  • This was one of the very first singles that I brought in 1970, ( I still have it, I was 14 at the time). I LOVE Brian's version of this 60's classic, but I think the studio version is THE BEST version, this version, does not have all those lovely swirling strings & cool effects. Peace Gary in PA USA

  • @gary56victor57 yes, this live performance shows that Brian still has the chops, but the record itself is perfectly magical. I was the same age as you, and it was one of the better things about 1970.

  • I was 11 yo when this great song came out. music is the one and only thing that sparks my memory when it comes to remembering anything prior to 15 yo. gypsy woman was playing during the credits to a movie or series I was watching and a flood of great memories came to me. just when I thought I've heard every one of my memory throw backs, along comes another. Thank you! thank you! thanj you! Brian.

  • Mine is from a DVD...."The Best Of Brian Hyland"

  • What a great tune....wish someone could post his version of So Long Marianne he did it the best !

  • is this from a cd or a dvd? I would like to purchase this.

  • Great looking guy with a marvelous voice.

  • @flomurdock i love it!

  • @flomurdock no crazier than you are perhaps you should listen to Bryan's recorded version from back in the 70s, I think your opinion might change unless your mind is filled with the trash they call music nowadays.

  • @flomurdock I agree. The Impressions' wonderful original has a much more sensual feel to it, and cannot be surpassed. It is of course a great song, which is why Bryan covered it.

  • @flomurdock You need to watch it at least 5 times and then you'll be hooked this performance. It is nothing like the original but is like a different song.

  • @flomurdock your a dick

  • Thanks. Love this. Takes me back to a time less stressful. Good to get away for awhile.

  • It's incredible the way his voice sounds! A truly gifted one!

  • When was this. This is my all time fav.

  • Still...Good

  • great performers and singers made these songs to instill them into us , brian was a great one ,

  • what senior citizens center was this done at?

  • @hamslice15164, I suppose you're going to be 29 forever. You have no idea how soon you'll be 50. You'll be wondering what happened to your 30's and 40's. It won't be funny then, I assure you.

  • just wonder does he know how handsome he is

  • I would go see his show too...but don't know where he is performing.

  • I can not stop watching this. I just can't stop loving you...Canada

  • i love the studio version, but man, this is great. Brian can sing!

  • I believe this is the best remake I've ever heard. I want this on CD.

  • This song was for me in February of 1971, in Burley Lodge Road, Leeds, with a girl called Marie Webster .

How music can take you back to a time of my youth of 39 years ago.

    Not seen her since.

    Lofty.

  • ILOVE this song and Brian Hyland!!! Any man that sings, plays and looks as good as he does is a winner! Hugs and kisses to you Brian

  • thats too dayum fast

  • Great Venue ...Looks like fun........WHERE is it and When was it.?

  • This place was in FLA & closed way back in 1992. There is a homepage for it. Type in Little Darlin's. Wolfman Jack owned it at the time it shut down. I'm with you. Looks like a rockin lace. Too bad it's not there anymore. This video was probably mid 80's or so. Del Shannon has a couple on YT that is also from there.

  • wonderful simply wonderful

  • He ought to re-release this one and come and do concerts again. He sure is good looking now! The hair is looking mighty good!

  • I'd go to one of his show. Brian Hyland aged very well indeed :)

  • Keep in mind that this venue has been closed since 1992, so this was probably mid-80's.

  • Is it possible to have "Me and My Shadow"

  • Check out this video and many more at

    The OfficialBrianHyland Youtube Channel.

    Thanks for watching and listening!!

  • I loved it!

  • Yes I agree with you!!!

  • Best version ever done, this or the 1970 7 incher. Blew the Impressions away.

  • TNN had a ton of great oldies acts on this show and on Wolfman Jack's show in the late 80s. This is the house band Rockin' Robin.

  • This song just sticks with you! Iprefer the slower version though,Hyland does have some good songs!

  • Decent version.

    No soul.

  • ok I am not REALLY OLD but this song just has that something like when I would go out to dance and just knew that the night would be great I like the original that is slower with more mystery

  • agree, but he still has it , here

  • great version of a great song! this video is good

  • jimi hendrix copied it too.. also good but not this good!!

  • Hey--this is great!!--it's actually better than the original record--thanks for posting!!

  • Does anyone know who is playing lead guitar? He looks like Reggie Young.

  • Thanks for this video! Brian Hyland recorded some fine songs! Ron

  • Sure did grow up from singing about 'Bikinis'

While he does a listenable job, the original by

    Curtis Mayfield is tops

  • Hey Pornguy2, i went to I Tunes to listen to Mayfield's version and I watched a You Tube video of Curtis doing the song and I can't agree with you. Hyland's version is better. But, the Curtis Mayfield You Tube video is great as well. His band in that video is really good. In any event, thank God for You Tube because both versions are really good.

  • I heard this when watching Heartbreak Kid the other night. Brought back some good memories!!!

  • also ..just caught the Heartbreak Kid tonight and was reminded that was really a good song ...

  • He had a great voice and great songs...he should be credited for the sounds he created.

  • this is one of the best songs i have heard

  • This song is my all time favorite from Brian Hyland.

Hey Roppersgirl: Sorry to hear that who you considered to be an "angel" ended up braking your heart at the end. A man making such sweet dedications should live up to his words. You sound like you have a heart of gold. Wouldn't mind if you danced for me some time. Interested in Navy Seals?

  • Thos is the original, this is IT !!

Bryan & this song is truly agreat classic !!

    Tks for posting

    JE

  • actually, Hyland did a remake of this song. The original was done and written by Curtis Mayfield. But I like Hyland's version better myself; which was produced by Del Shannon.

  • I had never heard this song before, until recently, when it was dedicated to me by an "angel" that came into my life. Since then, it has become my signature song.

This "angel" lives in my broken heart. He was the spark in my eyes.

He's a US Marine, a hunter, a ropper, a cowboy, a PI, a hero, a legacy in my life. He was my vidiroo, my everything. All that he left behind is this song to remember him by. This Gypsy will dance around a camp fire some night, too bad it wont be for him.

  • Check out The Official Brian Hyland YouTube Channel

  • I saw Bryan perform 10 years ago at a festival with other 60's & 70's acts, and he was incredible. There were people there of all ages, and when Bryan came on i'm sure many of them had no idea who he was. After the first song the crowd went nuts, this guy still sounded like he was in his 20's, but with an excellent band backing him. He looked really good too. He came back for 3 encores because the crowd went crazy. He was the best act, and there were some great ones.

  • Same here pita4851..This song reminds me of myself also...In the same way as you...

  • Ah, to remember. The dance would be fun to watch as well. I can see it now....thats some gypsy! But i feel like i,ve walked on hot coals.

  • I Remember This One Very Cool Thanks

  • I don't no why but this song reminds me of me,Maybe because I am a GypsyWomen kind of. Love to Dance around the campfire, with music, and I hate to wear shoes.Smile & Peace

  • best version by far. Hyland is soooo into this tune. Curtis Mayfield is great and is one of the best but BH has the voice for this one.

  • I looked on youtube for a recording of "The Joker Went Wild". Does anyone know where we can hear a copy of it?

    Thanks

  • The joker went wild is definitely on you tube - try again !

  • Great Song & Video!!! 5*s I Really enjoyed this one alot! Thanks Anita

  • Brian Hyland is just amazing. Pure class

  • My favorite version of this tune for sure. But not original. The song was done by Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions first. Bryan's version was a remake. As they say on Idol, he made this song his own. Still the most recognized version and my favorite.

  • take heart all you nostalics 'cause "vinyl" is making a come back...even the better of the new sound centers are coming equipped with turntables.

  • totally a great song....thank you.....

  • ....Very good live version of this beautiful 60's soul classic, that Mr. Brian Hyland remade in 1970 & had a big Top ten hit with. I remember hearing on AM radio, (77 NYC) & ran out to the local Sam Goody's record shop & brought the 45rpm (..I think is was about .69, or .79 cents back then.) I still have this single & it's a all-time 70's pop classic!! Truly brilliant & totally timeless!!

  • Wish I still had those 45's - good for you!

  • If this is a remake, then who did the original? I only remember this one. Thanks

  • Hey buddy, the original was done by 60's r&b group, The Impressions (Curtis Mayfield).

  • Very cool, I agree.

  • Thanks, he can still hold those notes - never got the credit he deserved - he had and has a much better range than the "Teenage Idols" of the day.

His life is quite interesting. I agree a very nice version - there is something very haunting about this video.

  • to all those posting these great old

    50's and 60's songs bravo.dont

    hear them hardly except here.dont

have a oldies station in reno.

  • After years of performing he stills has A

    gifted voice

  • And while I'm at it, that's a pretty tough 'ol band behind him. Wonder who they are??

  • I think this version kicks butt! So glad you posted it...so glad to have heard it! Thanks for posting. I really like the first 1:10 or so...then I'm not as excited for the remainder. I wonder where ol' Brian is these days. Anybody know? Joel in Tucson

  • looks like neil young

  • que es del video clip de esta cancion parece qwue ya la sacaron?

  • thanks, thanks for post this nice vid...

    amazing song !!!!!!!!!!

  • nice very nice version

  • wow he can still sing

    when was this recorded?

  • 1988...

  • this is great. thanks!

  • kind of cheesy...the original is better..this version lacks any feel and is to fast.

  • He could have done it like the original version. He still has the voice for it. I agree! Too fast!

  • I believe on the original you can hear Del Shannon in vocal back ground - in fact I think Del helped produce this song for Brian Hyland -

history of a long friendship -maybe that is why the faster version?

  • Sooooo Wonderful!!Thanks for posting!

  • This is the movie that I have looked for long time.

Thank you for posting this movie.
