  • This dosen't have anything to do with nursey ryhmn other than the title perhaps...I was surprized. "Doh Ray Me" was one of the big songs from the musical "Sounds of Music" I COULD LISTEN TO THIS ONE AGAIN AND AGAIN BUT I WON'T, THX4 POSTIN'

  • GOOD ONE!

  • Someone wrote below The Crests, were the first interacial group. They were early, but I think The Del-Vikings beat them out.?

  • @gimbadeebum - interreligious Jewish/Christian mix. Those other groups were all one religion.

  • Wow, what a gem! The Rob Roys were one of the most underrated of the doo-wop groups, in my opinion

  • @1956MercM260 One of the reasons they were under-rated is the fact they weren't heard nation wide. It helps to get airplay from coast to coast. It wasn't played here, even tho I really like this song..it's a top 10 song no doubt!! Rockabilly too was unheard of in these prts & therefore never got the recognition it deserved to make the Billboard Top 100. It wasn't played in Seattle anyway or north of the line in Vancouver Cda.....David Orrell, Wayne Walker & Ronnie Dawson were tops!!

  • Tenho ótimas lembranças dessa música...curto demais esse grupo !

  • This is one awesome tune!Just love that melody...sheer bliss...BIG THANKS for this

  • Nice song, but do not confuse with "Do Re Mi" done by Lee Dorsey.

  • @carlmoore19 - Of course not! This is a much better song than the Dorsey one.

  • Just love their sound - solid!

  • was it 57 or 59?

I hate hwen I hear of two dif dates drives me nuts

  • I think it was recorded in 1959 when the Rob Roys were forced to do more recordings for Backbeat while trying to move over to Capitol. This was Backbeat 499

  • @mutleybird wow thank you I appreciate the help! sincerely

  • @JRussoBuffaloNY In my record features: "recorded circa 1959". No more information there

  • @whitefalcon64 Thanx Falcon, this is my fav uptempo by them. there are alot of trick chord progressions in this song I am still trying to figure out. Norm wouldn't tell me when I hinted to him I had difficulty, lol. oh well practice makes perfect.

  • @JRussoBuffaloNY hi the song was made 1957 on back beat label 499M

have a book on doo wop the forgotten third of rock 'n roll hope that helps you

  • @doowopcharlie1 thanx Chaz, I appreciate your help.

  • This Is PRICELESS

  • WOW! I wish I had a copy of this song, itunes probably won't have it for awhile...

  • That's tenor Bobby Trotman 2nd on the bottom right. All went to High School in the Bronx NY. They are all in thier late sixties now

  • De Witt Clinton High

  • Were they the first interracial doo wop group? or is that anything that can be known?

  • I don't know about if they're the first, but they are a an interreligious mix as well since Norman Fox and Marshall "Buzzy" Helfand (the bass singer) are jewish.

  • @coyotesong The Ans: Del Vikings were possibly the first interracial group. The late David Learchy was white..Kripps and others black...on Whispering Bells and Come go with Me..1957. Take care..Jeffs45rpm

  • Crest were also a white, two blacks, (one a female) & Puerto Rican. Began in 1957.

  • @coyotesong there were a lot of interracial groups back in the 50's the crest being one of them

from / philly / new york / chicgo sorry about my spelling-- i'm from jimmy & the towers

and the miss & I still go to shows we see some of the guys back in the day

lot of people did not now about mix groups just ran out an bought song that they liked

I go back to around 1954 when i started to sing we did not look at skin tone just that sound

  • @doowopcharlie1 Thanks for your message and I completely agree that most of us just went out and bought the music we enjoyed and didn't give a rip about anyone's skin color. It's only with a longer view of this history that I've wondered about "the first" groups that were integrated. Back then, there was the Jim Crow crap in the south and milder versions up north so I find it cool that music helped many of us over the hump of not caring about color.

  • Great inter-racial group, this is one of my favorites, along with "Dream Girl".All of their stuff is good, including "Pizza Pie","Dance Girl Dance","Ringing the Bells",and ,of course, "Tell me why"-their biggest hit.I hope Debbie Nader has the Rob-Roys at her next doo wop show next June at the NJ Meadowlands arena.

  • Quietly may be an understatement.. A handful of these Back Beats were issued at that time, all on colored wax. This was issued as the flip side of two of them.

  • Brownprideroldies,

This group had a song called Dream Girl. Do you have it? If you do, could you please take a moment and post it. Its a great song.

    Thank you,

    HIGHSCHOOLHOP

  • Done & posted

  • First time I've heard them. Thanks for posting it.

  • they'll be in Oneonta NY on August 24! call 607-436-9807 for tickets and information.

  • This is why I love the internet it brings people together...and new little gems are found... god bless.

  • amen. I'll drink to that.

  • These guys were the best ever.
