I was so lucky to have met this amazing man. He had wrestled in our small town back in the 70s. There was maybe 10 of us waiting out back of the arena. Security was trying to shoo us away, and Andre stopped him, and told security No no. He spent a good 15 - 20 mins talking with us. Joking, signing autographs. He was kind, and funny and had the best laugh ever. I will never forget that day.
this makes ZERO sense, since part of the symptoms of acromegaly are enlarged internal organs. your organs continue to grow in size until the day you die. Andre would have definately lived another 20 years had he not consumed food and alcohol the way he did. It took him 2 liters of liquor to get a buzz for christ's sake!
@aaronrus Yes they continue to grow but they are incapable of keeping up with the physical size that the sufferer reaches and they become stressed and weakened over time trying to keep up with an ever enlarging circulatory system.
I believe claims of his drinking while true are also exaggerated. He wouldn't eat a million calories at every meal. The drinking however might have been a problem because I bet he was using it to cope with pain but that was a side effect to his real medical issues.
@papillonaquatique brother , i hate to say it, because you seem liek a nice guy, but n the case of Andre the Giant, you have NO IDEA what you are talking about. he AVERAGED 7000 calories a day drinking. thats about 65-70 drinks a day. consequently, a japanese doctor once went on record after ANdre died and said that his ability to drink massive amounts was atributted to the fact that his Liver was 4 times the size of a normal man. he died of congestive heart failure, from POOR health.
@aaronrus I like to think im a nice Lady actually. :)
Anyway Andre was a giant and an athlete so of course he ate more than the average man but I doubt that he ate and drank that much on a daily basis. 7000 calories divided by 65 is around 107 calories per drink minus any food so that just seems like a thrown out number to me. Not trying to be rude. I just think that to argue with his assumed eating habits that we need more than a few backstage stories from fellow wrestlers.
@papillonaquatique Bro, watch the A&E biography of Andre the giant. its a real documentary with many interviews, by his personal handlers, friends, family, all the people who knew him. his ability to consume alcohol and food is LEGENDARY for a reason. Andre's back surgery in 1986 set the precedent by which modern anethesia is calculated, his dose was based on his alcohol consumption. it took him two BOTTLES of vodka to get a buzz. watch it her eon youtube
@aaronrus I have seen bits and pieces of his A&E Biography. I can't seem to find the entire video. Maybe I can find it for sale on their site or Ebay. Regardless of differing opinions one thing we can both agree on is that Andre was one giant of a human being. :)
I loved this movie and Andre's part in it. Those people critical of Andre from his "heel" wrestling days forget that those characters and story lines were handed down to the wrestlers from the bosses. There was an element of acting in professional wrestling that had nothing to do with the wrestler's true character.
i just cannot imagine the life andre had, off course that will be the enjoiable sides of being famous.
but what about day by day living? i feel so sad for an individual that seemed to be suck a gentle man, an yet what made him famous, was also the cause of his death
since 1980 his acromegaly began to attack his inner organs and quadrupled the speed of his aging process, you can see in his eyes that he laughs yet knows that he will die in the not too distant future, once one of the strongest 2 legged creatures onj the globe and now on the racing decline, yet he holds his composure and dignity , a true giant in size and courage, I love the man
@iDraw3G Where do you get off criticizing Andre? He was a great man who had no control over his size. My mother met him and said he was very sweet. And I'm pretty sure thanking God for Andre's death isn't appreciated by anyone. So instead of posting your critical and unbased opinions on a TRIBUTE video, why don't you actually learn something about one of the gentlest men of all time?
@iDraw3G R u for real?? R u really typing and posting these words to this video?? R u an orphan? Nobody can compare to Andre. He was the worlds largest actor. And a great one at that. As well as an awesome wrestler. Even now that hes dead. . hed still kick ur ass from below the ground. Get a life ya cocksucker.
he'd be one of the most genuine people youd meet if he was still around...f you cant tell from this interview. Do the world a favor and jump off of a cliff. Ignorant, hateful liar.
@iDraw3G yes he is just because of a person's size or color doesn't make them not human what thats like saying to a blind person your not a person because you can't see or a person born without any legs
I can't believe it's been 17 years since his passing. I grew up watching him, mainly towards the tail end of his career. I didn't want to see Princess Bride when it first came out because Andre had become a bad guy and I was so upset when he did that. I am glad that I finally relinquished and saw the movie. One of my favorites. And Andre the Giant is still one of my all-time favorite wrestlers. RIP Andre.
One of favorite movies of all time, thanks for posting this. Seeing the interviews of all the survivng characters makes me feel like an old fart. I remember my grandmother rented this for me to watch when it was released on video. The title made me think it would be stupid, it just goes to show that you should never judge a book by it's cover. Especially a kissing book!! Anybody who thinks ill of this movie just needs to fucking die!!!
By the time he appeared in this movie, the man had long been a living legend in the wrestling world...
And Andre acted really good in the movie! His accent gave his character a boost, as one can imagine this sort of character having this type of voice... like what happened with inigo montoya
