Good on you girl, I've from Quebec and I've been saying just this. I also HATE when people say "in muslim countries they oppress people in certain ways so we should be equally oppressive to minorities here." It's a common argument and ridiculous because why should we want to let oppressive Islamist regimes be our role models?
If you want to talk about FREEDOM, western women should be allowed NOT TO WEAR ANYTHING IN THEIR HEADS when they visit a MUSLIM country. IF you come to FRANCE or CANADA follow the rules or GET OUT!!!!!
I wear the Niqab and when I go to Banks, Police , Airports ect: I lift the veil to be identified...its not hard but some women who wear the Niqab don't know its allowed in Islam for us to lift the Niqab for those reasons and if there is no woman available to check us then a man can...
if you have a Facebook ,i invite you to join my facebook group "i bet we can find 10,000,000 who stand against Hijab ban worldwide" , so far we have more than 30,000 supporters from different countries and from non muslims as well , i hope if you can join us and post your videos there !
Dude, I place the blame squarely on Immigration Canada's shoulders...They've set us up for a religious/race war within the next 10 years. Fu%$in jackasses!
Do you think men in ski masks should be able to get drivers licenses without revealing their identity? Should men should be able to request a male employee to serve them on the basis of comfort, or does this only apply for special interest groups that follow the dogma of 7th century desert warlords?
"Comfortable" doesn't matter here, nor does sex or dogmatic persuasion - equality under the law does. When applying for government services, either everyone reveals their face, or no one has to.
Women's "option" to wear face coverings is not being taken away.
Their option to get a license, or other government service, is not being taken away.
The new law simply tells them they can't wear it WHILE they're in the process of applying for the privilege of a licence or other government service. I would imagine it also applies to men in ski masks.
They are not being "prevented" from wearing a face covering - they are being limited from wearing it in certain places on certain occasions.
Muslims Destroyed one of the greatest Ancient Civilizations known to mankind (Persian) and Now Europe, Americas and beyond??? So much for respecting the host countries!!! Sounds like a virus or cancer !!!!Doesn't it???
These same hypocrites DO NOT LET any foreigner/s to come in their own MUSLIM based countries without the Hejab???!!! (ie.Saudi Arabia, Satanic Republic Occupying Iran and etc.)
I am an ex-Muslim (by force and NOT by choice) from Iran.
Muslims are amongst most hypocritical religious people around the world. Here they are occupying Europe and Other First World and Christian Based countries, and on top of it, imposing their backward religious traditions on the original countries and cultures who have been hosting them (such as France and etc.)!!!! WTF???
Believe me, I can teach U & ur ilks so much about Islam, both in reading and comprehending it properly!! But unfortunately you seem to be another fanatic and brainwashed soul who is following another very backward and unholy religion that has spread out hate, dictatorship, aggressions and destruction for almost 1500 years on this planet , thus an absolute waste of precious life for me to elaborate further... Wake up children !!! Awareness, Consciousness, Freedom, Love and Peace ...
The burqa or niqab is not the womans choice, it is an obligation forced upon her from a patriarcal society that see's women as second class citizens, there life is worth half that of a man. There are many more laws that degrade women. Honor killings are law, will that be accepted when it hapens? What if the mother of the young girl that gets murdered says that this is there religion and we need to accept it, will that make it alright???
Banning burqa and niqab is impowering to women. In muslim countries these are tools used to oppress women, this goes back centuries, women are forced to wear these so that men don't see them, hence won't get aroused and have no choice but to steal, rape, kill an honorless woman. This is a way for a man to protect his property, by that I mean wife. With this mentality there is no compromise, Islamic fanatism has destroyed my country and many others, I don't want to see it repeated here.
I think the reason why this is such a "hot topic" is because politicians need emotional issues to distract voters. Gay Marriage is one such issue in US for the right wing to use. Canada/Europe that wont be such an emotional issue. Hence the right wing has chosen different issue to sell its right wing agenda. Ultimate goal is that they want to come to power to erode liberal economic policies. But to come to power they use hot button issues.
I aloso admire Quebec for tossing out the political correctness & false politeness more prevailant in English Canada. Quebeccers have more of a tendancy to speak frankly & direct whats on thier mind instead of beating around the bush. Good for them.
zentropa now tell me which country does not allow a westerner to set up shop... This country does not only belong to one type of group even if u r predominant ones. ur no different than Taliban....
Zentropa, we Muslims r taxpayers we should have the basic rights to all gov services and no one should be denied right to basic education (learning French as second language is must to work etc...) .
Actually, the biggest problem in France is that these women are mostly French women, like born in France with French parents and all. So this means that they are rejected by their own country and their own society!! That's just so unfair to them.
Are they supposed to leave France just because the government decided they were not "French" enough? It's just stupid
@C0NQUISTADoR The thing is, this ban doesn't work to actually eliminate religious misogynistic ideology, it just targets a symbol of it and takes options away from women. It doesn't promote equality.
If we want to free women, we should free women, not force them to fit the appearance of what we think free women look like.
I do not agree: Eliminating the acceptance of religious misogynistic symbols sends a clear message that this society does not tolerate misogyny therefore enpowering the various gender equality movements.
@C0NQUISTADoR You don't think it's at all hypocritical to try to empower gender equality movements by dictating to women what they can and cannot wear?
I don't find it hypocritical. Banning symbols of oppression is always empowering to the movements of equality and understanding.
An example: Jewish people find it empowering the suppression of the swastika which is a symbol of intolerance, oppression and hate against their people and anybody else who did not fit into the nazi mold.
@C0NQUISTADoR The niqab, unlike the swastika, serves a functional purpose.
If we could set aside the religious aspect, and just look at function for a moment, I can sympathize with the desire to wear it. I mean, I wear a shirt because I don't want people--particularly men--looking at my breasts. It's the same basic principle. So I don't think we should take away the option.
Yes, the niqab serves the functionnal purpose of oppressing women by treating women as second rate citizens.
The option of the niqab isn't taken away from them in public (nobody will arrest you for it), because public services are not a necessity but a privilege.
Ex. A driver's license is a not a necessity but if you really want one, you may have the privilege of getting one if you show your face.
@C0NQUISTADoR It is oppression if they are forced to wear it. It is also a kind of oppression if they are forced not to wear it. Canada, a place where freedom is valued, should not put restrictions on this. People are being treated as second rate citizens if they are denied access to public services.
Also, some services, like health care, are a necessity.
No it's not oppression ... you are not forced to use the public healthcare system - there is always the private sector.
If do not want to show your face and be identified then the staff is protected against that type of harassment from extremists - therefore not wasting the precious time of public sector workforce. It applies to all other public sectors.
Burqua is forced upon women by there husbands and a patriarchal society who view women as property and second class citizens. In those societies example my country of birth Iran, if a women is seen in public with exposed hair, she can be taken to prison, wipped repeatedly or even far worst. When the taliban was dismanteled the first thing women do is take off there burqua's, it's there shackels. Taking them off is a symbol of freedom to women in Afghanistan.
Society dictates what people can and can not wear all the time. If a 400 pound middle aged man walks in a public street in a speedo, he will be arrested. Is that not dictating what a person can and can not wear???
I do not agree: Eliminating the acceptance of religious misogynistic symbols sends a clear message that this society does not tolerate misogyny therefore enpowering the various gender equality movements.
You know, they are not banning the niqab ... women that feel the need to be oppressed by that archaic and misogynic symbol have the FREEDOM to choose to do so.
It is the gov't services that are requiring it - Quebec is going to start changing all of their staff to accomodate them - it's like asking to send only male police officers to hassidic jewish areas (because they won't talk to women officers).
@C0NQUISTADoR It's not just the staff, it's a ban for anyone who wants to access government services, basic things like health care. In France it includes anyone using public transit.
I know but I guess I was unclear in my response so here's a second try at it:
It is the gov't services that are requiring it for staff and people who want to use these services. If Quebec answers all these mysogynic requests, Quebec is going to start changing all of their staff to accommodate all crazy requests.
An example - Do you think it's fair to fire all female staff in a certain area because the community there refuses to talk to female police officers (jewish hasidim).
& lets see what would happen if a westerner were to move to a muslim country & open up a church , or open up a restaurant that serves pork chops. Lets see how open minded the muslims would be ????
@zentropa There are muslim countries where you can do this, like Syria or Jordan. People need to stop thinking Muslim countries are anti-christians or whatever...
As someone who actually lived in Montreal for several years & was there when the reasonable accomodation debate first heated up, Mr Charest ' new law is very fair & reasonable. Whats next , all males being asked to get out of the swimming pool when muslim women want to swim , or a group ofmuslim men kneeling on the floor to pray in a Quebec sugar shack ? Oh , these incidents already happend. This new law draws a line in the sand. Muslims should be more grateful they are in Canada.
If you don't like the rules, move to a place that is more to your liking. I hear Saudi Arabia has a fantabulous outlook towards women's rights. Why not try there?
Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean that it's not true. The niqab IS a symbol of oppression. It's not a "basic symbol of expression", it is done through cultural and religious dogma that is done by indoctrinating young children.
@Rantandreason To tell people that their best option is to either accept a policy or leave the country is a very undemocratic attitude. Everyone has a right to advocate for change in the laws of their government.
@Dogar230 Oh I never said they had to leave the country. I said they should move to a place that better suits their values. If i want a real Chicago Pizza, I will go to Chicago. And if they want sharia law, then move to a place that offers this. Then everyone will be happy :)
@GlamoOur94 That's not my issue now is it? If what you want is a specific way of life that nobody else around you wants and greatly opposes, yet there is another country out there that has those same values, then go to that country.
I don't go to china and tell them they need to start speaking english or I will blow them up. So why do muslims feel the need to tell us we need to do what they want us to do, or they will blow us up?
