  • Can't even remember the kid's name, just that he had blond hair and glasses and was a friend of a friend at their house. We literally played for hours neither of us dying enough times for a game over letting the other win, finally my stupid grandmother came in and said we had to go home. I was so pissed. I had this kid dead to rights for a win, I know it. I don't remember how many times we rolled the game over, but it was quite a few. That kid was good at games too, so glad I went toe to toe.

  • okay wait a minute this dude says the Colecovision version looks better than the Atari 2600 version, but has no idea if that's true, then later says that it is no surprise. Um what? If you don't know if what you said is true then how come you say one thing then the other? Fucking moron. If you're gonna review a game and say stuff about it then know WTF you are talking about. Anyway I loved this game as a kid growing up back in the 80's. Me and this one dude went round n round for hours at it.

  • i love this system & game

  • Wow, Mario in a cowboy hat!

  • great game! (and the only version of this game that I own)

  • I was helping my friend who is a landlord cleaning an apartment that the people just moved out of, They left a whole bunch of junk behind, I was grabbing stuff to throw into the garbage. I notice a bunch of old games on the floor, I picked one up, & it was Donkey Kong for the Atari 2600, MY rarest find, The strange thing is it had the Colecovision logo on it. for the Atari 2600.

  • @NintendoCosmosMedia I picked up a free 2600 and some games off Craig's List the other day, and along with it came Donkey Kong. And E.T...

  • @muskabulldog

I still have my old Atari 2600 in my house somewhere, But i can't find it, I have a whole bunch of games for it. including ET, Pac-Man I also have Pole Postion & Boxing, I just got Donkey Kong Jr, for the Atari 2600 in the mail a couple of weeks ago.

  • Mario looks like bayou Billy.

  • Mario looks like a cowboy

  • @kensfood darn it, I was just about to say that

  • i like how in the last level DK is breaking out of the cage as you unlock the segments

  • "I've gone off subject. That never happens around here." :) CGR is RAD!

  • mario is wearing a cowboy hat in this version. XD haha

  • @TheDARKYOSHI64

    It's supposed to be a hunter's hat.

  • "Not as good as the version on the 7800"... this I disagree with. It doesn't look or play as good as the Colecovision.

  • Mario in this game looks more like a farmer than a carpenter.

  • thumbs up for gta 5 for the vectrex 3000-c ;)

  • Mario looks like he's wearing a fedora in this version of the game! XD

  • @sonicmario64 i like how he looks like robin hood

  • The sarcasm in this is just great. Got some good laughs.

  • I still think the NES version was the best. Then again, I got an NES console as a kid with Donkey Kong Classics, while everyone else in my neighborhood got Super Mario Bros.

  • No "sparks" level? That's the best level in the original game! Shame it was removed.

  • @MattTheSaiyan

You gotta understand about the limitations of ColecoVision cartridge ROM to know why. Coleco carts only allowed up to 32K of ROM.

  • Mario looks like a Cowboy.

  • They could make Fear 2 for the ColecoVision or even the newest Fear 3.The time slowdown could be a problem though. But not so with the "X-12" expansion module!

  • @johnwx777 fear 2 is like crash 2

  • Comment removed

  • If people can make a Halo game for the 2600. People can make a FEAR game on the colecovision.

  • hey they made wolfienstien 2d on atari 2600 it is a hombrew though .i am planning on buying it for my darth vader atari 2600 off of atariage.com

  • Forget Fear @ on the Colecovision... Let's see Call of Duty on the Atari 2600!

  • I used to have this game when I had a Coleco Vision back in the day. It was one of my favorites. I still remember the cute little jingles and whimsical sound effects. Ah! The memories!

  • I still got a Coleco Vision.. and This was one of my favorite games back in those days.

  • mr CGR you are so hilarious

  • samsh bros is another game where mario is a bad guy if your fighting against him

  • i have this game atari, coleco and intellivision are the shiznit. but i dont remember the colours being that pastel lol

  • One of my favorite games of all time. I actually used to have the mini-arcade version of this game back in the early 80's. Boy do I wish I still had that thing. Does anyone else remember those mini arcades?? I remember it was orange and had the cool decals on it. Those were the days....

  • this game is lacking it's predecessor on this system is good.

  • Does Mario have a cowboy hat on?

  • Lol fear 2 on the colecovision?

    that would be....

    AMAZING!!!

  • Even now I'm playing CRYSIS, I'm still loving this classic game ^_^

  • I luv mah Colecovision,and this game!

  • when climbin he looks like a brown and white mario

  • @lukin6t9 That's not Mario. That's Donkey Kong Jr., hence the title. :) BTW He might be known as Diddy nowadays.

  • no DK JR is DK JR if u play mario tennis 64 you'll know

  • I agree that FEAR 2 should come out on ColecoVision. That would be epic.

  • This one has the most faithful audio.

  • what, no electrical spark thing level ?

    that sucks,

    should i get a atari 7800 instead of a coleco ?

or does the 7800 version fit into the coleco expansion module ?

  • No, 7800 carts do not fit into the coleco expansion module, only 2600 games work with it.

Being an owner of both, I would suggest the colecovision with the expansion module. There are more, and better games for coleco than that for 7800.

Hey, you failed to mention the abominable version of DK and DKjr Coleco did for Intellivision. i love Intv, but those two games were yuk.

  • its not about graphics! and infact colecovision was atari's enemy

  • ABout the power supplies. Have you watched AVGN's sega CD/32x reviews.

I also belive that there's some power supply things in the atari 5200 review.

  • Probly not. Not that I know, but judging on your thumb downs I'm pretty sure.

  • 2:45

    Donkey kong is flying!

  • Actually mario was never a carpenter, Jump man was =P

  • No, 'cuz in the 7800 it says "Mario" and "carpenter".

  • kirkh12345, don't be a fanboy.

  • you're a fanboy

  • of what?

  • and why do you say that?

  • because, Freedom of speech is the freedom to speak freely without censorship or limitation. The synonymous term freedom of expression is sometimes used to denote not only freedom of verbal speech but any act of seeking, receiving and imparting information or ideas, regardless of the medium used. Freedom of speech and freedom of expression are closely related to, yet distinct from, the concept of freedom of thought.

  • I know what freedom of speech is.

  • Great! So i have the freedom to tell you that your a jackass? Honestly telling people that they "need" anything is stupid, that and Mark owns an Xbox 360 anyway. Nice copy and paste from Wikipedia by the way!

  • I think your beating a dead horse, seen as i posted the original comment 4 months ago.

  • ...And, naturally, that negates the fact that you wrote it!

  • Mark prefers Sega Genesis, and Colecovision :P

  • Originally he was a carpenter, but someone at Nintendo commented that he looked more like a plumber, and that is what he became.

  • @CollisionCat

His plumbing career started in 1983 with the release of "Mario Brothers" which introduced us to Luigi and the Koopas, but King Bowser and Princess Peach Toadstool had to wait another two years.

  • fear 2 will be a lauch title for the coleco x9000

  • @kwicksandz say what? o.O Explain urself sir

  • Fear 2, now on Coleco Vision!

  • will you be reviewing RE5?

  • i like this game!!!!

  • this looks more like the DKJ that i know

  • Got to love the classics.

  • this version looks cooler

  • Mario looks like a hillbilly. A redneck/carpenter/plumber.. He's confused...

  • he's a handyman

  • Sounds quite a bit like Wonder Boy.

  • 1:42 actually the Atari 7800 was released in 1984 in very small numbers, but it was shelved because the market was still feeling effects of the video game crash. It was re-released in 1986 after the NES revitalized the market. While the Atari 7800 was more common in 1986-87, it is still '84 technology, therfore is only two years newer than the Colecovision.

  • I agree with Kazanu06, you should do a review of Pokémon Red/Blue or Yellow! That would be awsome =P

  • how come donkey kong jr looks like mario when he is climbing the vines. lol

  • ha 49 95.... 95

  • if they do make fear 2 I am defenatly buying a coleco vision even though i am goin to buy 1

  • they already have fear 2

  • Fusion reactor FTW!

  • dude, i had never heard of calecovision untill i started wating your show now i want to play one so bad it's not funny.

  • You should do a review of Pokémon xD

  • Ah, once again the memories. Once again they put in a secret move in DK Jr. It is at the level with the spring and moving vines. If you jump on the spring and then press jump ( if you time it right) you can do a super jump to the small vines without going the long way around.

    More Colecovision.

  • You need a Fusion reactor to generate the 1.21 jigowatts of electricity needed to power the colecovision's attachable flux capacitor.

  • Back the Future.

  • COOL

  • u should get off topic more often in ur vids, i like hearing what u have 2 say!

  • Lol the F.E.A.R. 2 thing

  • Yea, this looks a lot better than on teh Atari 2600.

  • What happened to the guy that did reviews with you on the old classic game room

  • Hey Mark, when you make these reviews on multiple formats, have you thought of following them up with a comparison video? I really liked your Street Fighter II one you did a while back.

  • you are quickly becoming my fav video game reviewer kudos

  • R u gonna review all of them eventually up to the GBA version

  • you gotta review mario vs. donkey kong on the game boy sp

  • Theres no point of buying these on the colecovision or atari, Donkey Kong classics is cheaper and exactly replicates the arcade game.

  • BUT,it does not have the nostalgic factor that only the original machine can bring!

  • Yay Donkey Kong!!! love all these donkey Kong reviews!!!

  • I like how this version actually shows Donkey Kong slowly being freed with each key.

  • I dunno, dude. The ColecoVision is pretty old and I don't think it's still being made anymore.

A pretty good version of Donkey Kong Jr, though.

  • Are you sure? They might soon announce plans for F.E.A.R. 2 on ColeCovision!

  • coleco went bankrupt in the 80's

  • Fantastic review.

Are you going to review the NES version?

  • I still have this game, somewhere in my closet.

  • I used to play this one on an emulator, it's my favorite version.

  • It's certainly not technically possible to make anything look like THAT on an 2600, which was frankly a completely braindead device, technically. or at most an adequate replacement for a pong machine.

  • Actually,it is possible! Look at Pitfall 2! How did they do it? Special chips!

  • This is interesting. However, all the cartrige connector has are address and data pins - no provision for external audio or video processor. While you can pipe through an external audiochip by some trickery, there is no way to do this for video, except for increasing the number of sprites & missiles, one is still limited to blocky backgrounds and general sprite shape limitations of the original graphic hardware.

I would be curious if you have any more elaborate information on the cart hardware.

  • And i guess i should apologize for calling 2600 braindead - while it certainly is compared to any 8-bit game console or home computer out there, it certainly is a breakthrough to be a first programmable, cheap device, 5 years before the affordable, powerful 8-bit electronics era.

And well, Pitfall2, while an impressive 2600 title, there is still no way to match the native 80ies systems capabilities.

  • Actually, the very first programmable cartridge system was the 1976 Fairchild Channel F. Anyways,I do not know much more about the special hardware chips except that for the Atari 2600,it was called the "Super-Charger" chip, and as for the Atari 5200 and 7800,those used the "Joker" chip. A great game I should recommend that is on both the 5200 and the 7800 is Ballblazer! Very impressive game for 1983!

  • SuperFX chip. That was a separate processor inside a cartridge.

  • SuperFX solves a totally different problem. It doesn't try to extend the basic abilities of the image output unit, it extends processing power. However, with 2600 the main limitation is in image output hardware.

The only expansion hardware that i'm aware of on 2600 is a simple cart ROM bank switcher.

  • Haha, wait. It's more than just "Help me Rhonda.' It's all sorts of 60's and 70's classics! How'd they get away with ripping these midis??

  • NES Donkey Kong Jr. Is the best!

  • i disagree, i would much rather have the original arcade machine than the nes cart (which i have)

  • Teehee: Help me Rhonda, Help, Help me Rhonda. :D

  • these lvls are set up much different than the 2600s

  • wasn't there a sequel to this called donky knog JR maths. it focused on maths questions heaily in the game.

  • Wow gaming has come ALOOONG way since 1982..

  • stop this bullshit of frist!please!!!

  • cool

  • Please don't just write single word comments, it's a waste of time as the people who read them get nothing from them. Actually state and explain an opinion, at least a sentence that would be worth reading, otherwise don't comment in the first place.

Commenting a single word is as bad as commenting "first".

  • that's not necessarily true the word "cool"is a opinion and thers a big differences betwen righting cool and righting first because saying first is just braging.alltho you do have a point there isnt much reason fo righting just one word

  • cool

  • No, you just fail at life.
