By all means I am not condeming Rev. C.L. Franklin. I'm sure that he was a good preacher, but now I understand why he didn't get upset when Aretha got pregnant at 13 years old. Because he fathered a child with a 13 year old girl when he was married to Aretha's mother. Aretha never mentioned that in her book and she barely mentioned her half brother. It was obvious that she was glossing over subjects in her book, so I wonder what else went on that she conveniently didn't talk about in her book.

@jermainehaywood Well, a thirteen year old girl is pretty serious...it's not like the gal was an adult. Of course, when we repent we are forgiven. However, sometimes our sins follow us...something we have to live with and faith in Jesus Christ. Also, there is discipline that we--the Church--should be following...

@jermainehaywood Hey, Jermaine...I believe in forgiveness and restitution in the Lord, if the person repents. and I was just commentting that if the story is accurate, it was some serious sin, so I can appreciate any of the saints' gifts, but gifts are gifts, and character is different from the gifts. And the Lord and Paul did command a church discipline procedure. I cannot really comment on Aretha Franklin's father's case, because I was not involved in it. Blessings to you!!!

@bholyway I wish Areatha would write a TRUTHFUL book about life with this man. She glossed over or ignored the things that were too painful in her previous work. Her siblings are dead & she doesn't claim her half siblings, so penning her bio might be cathartic for her. By many accounts this man was evil incarnated.

Church discipline should have been administered....yes, we repent of our sin, and we daily confess our sins, but I am SICK and TIRED of excusing immorality...this gal wasn't even and adult woman!!!! I posted this almost a year ago, questioning how this man could be so reverend if he engaged in such despicable behavior. I did some research on his life and I was disappointed. However, he is gone and it is what it was. I respect whatever positive effect he had on gospel music and his family and whomever if anyone was led to the Lord through him. God is now his judge.

L. Franklin stood and preached. It is always an humbling and inspiring experience. He was certainly a prince of preachers whose style of preaching has transcended generations.

I've always enjoyed Rev. Franklin, I do remember hearing Aretha's mother singing I think it was Walk With Me on an album with Rev. Franklin....Mahalia Jackson said Aretha's mother was a powerful gospel singer.
