I´ve tested a lot mics yet but most of them had a too low volume. Iin your test you have a very loud source of course. Did you ever test the sony mic for speaking or in a car?

@Go4Gold1000 No, I have not since the unit is designed for outdoor activity where the action and its associated sounds are to be recorded. Speech typically isn't a factor.

I drilled my case and saved the 40 bucks lol BUT I did attached an external mic to it. I have never seen this mic before now.. Great video!

Is this plug-and-play microphone? I thought external mics for HERO2 would need power of its own as the HERO2 doesn't supply?

@CyclingWorks Yes, it plugs directly into the Hero2 and doesnt need a separate power source. HTH.

@DirtRacerProductions Yes, the ECM DS70P plugs into a 3.5mm mic jack and that's what the GoPro Hero 2 has.

@MrJmfitch Welcome! If you cant wire it in with the Go Pro 1, check out that skeleton case. I see them on CraigsList all the time.

Make sure you didn't get the knockoff version of that mic! There are cheap fake ones being sold and from the comparison video I viewed you may have one of them.

@Fleuristic I think this is the knockoff version. I had another one for my Kodak Zi8 and it looks to be the authentic version. I compared the audio on both.. the clone sounds better!

@SuperSetCA What makes you think the clone sounds better? The clones that I've heard all drown out all other sound whenever any bass is present.

@Fleuristic I plugged them both into my Zi8s and compared the sound. The clone sounded better and less hissy. I bet these companies share the same outsourcer in China.

@MakingMasterClass Definitely look it up! If you're not handy with the electrical, the upgrade to the skeleton case is worth it as it opens the mic to the outside environment.

@drzmanproject If you have the Contour HD, it should have the external mic port. If not, I'm sure there's a way to wire it for a mic similar to how the GoPro 1 guys are doing it.
