1. Private companies want to make profits so when they invest they take in account the return on investment... the sooner the better.

2. Space programs are long term investments (100s of years). Government shall only invest for the very long term.

Long term government investments belong to the people (like roads and infrastructure) that they can use to develop their business(es).

We can spend a trillion more dollars on health care but that's not curing shit just putting us on life support. Personally I am AGAINST colonizing the moon. I think that turning the moon, where several brave souls have trained for years to go to (some of them even dying in the process), into a place of tourism and American corporate advertising is insulting to the original space program. Plus, creating a moon colony could eventually lead to international conflct and the vandalism of certain man made objects that have been left and preserved on the moon for 50 years.

i think government has a role where the private sector has trouble with, such as areas of research where there is very little financial return, but will lead to advancements in human survival in the extremely long term timeline. but ron paul does have a point about rationing our resources and how inefficient governments are with their programs, and that the ideal situation is to have government involvement as limited as possible
