  • I can't tell you how much this will help me! I'm a pretty new at bass player helping out for carols at my church, and this sounds so much more interesting than what im doing :)

  • Love this cover! :) Very nice!

  • @schunful — I don't use an amp. What discrepancy is there?

  • @journeyquest1 — At least it's not Lynyrd Skynyrd. What? The real Tom Sawyer? hahahaha. Geddy is a hero of mine, but I want to cover new music. Neal Peart, in the "Live From Rio" DVD, rocked my socks off! He actually won a Grammy for the drum solo he did in that DVD. Who is your player? Is it in fact Geddy? I like my Jazz bass better than the Geddy signature one. I like how mine plays better.

  • @water353600 — Bro, no, YOU are the amazing one! Thanks for enjoying the video! haha. That made sense? idk. haha. I just posted a new Christmas song video for the song, "Christ Is Here," by Todd Fields. I have another Christmas song video that's going up hopefully tonight. After that I have an even other Christmas video that is going up. If it's too late, it's at least early for 2011! haha. Did you play this song at your church?

  • @CrankUpTheAmps — You sound really awesome, WO-man!!! And by "sound," I mean "play!" Of course that would entail that "awesome" happens when you play, so I sort of retract some of that in favor of honesty. haha. There's a niche on CL (at least where I live) for girl bands. Jump in the scene! You're uber-young too; the world is in your hands.

  • @62stratfan — Thank you very much! Check out my newest video for the Christmas song, "Christ Is Here," by Todd Fields! Have a Merry Christmas too! haha. I have yet another vid to post like tonight maybe. haha. Stay tuned for that as well!

  • @kyle101332 — Thanks! I just posted a new video for the Christmas song, "Christ Is Here," by Todd Fields. Check it out! I have yet another video to post LATE tonight hopefully!

  • Fix the amp but other than that good job

  • play some Geddy Lee

  • Bro u r amazing bro!!!!!! GBod bless

  • This sounds really awesome, man!!!

  • Nice tabbing job, Ryan. You have the knack for this, no doubt.

  • @rodwyr — That's cool. Yes, on the next song and maybe several ones after it, I'll take a guess at what key the song is, and you can check me on it. I am tabbing my next song already. Hopefully it will be up by very late tonight. When I say late I mean like around five in the morning or later. haha. I stayed up until nine in the morning today. My life is not bested by anything except everything.

  • @rodwyr — That makes a lot of sense. It reminds me of "Walk The Line," by Johnny Cash. He starts off every verse with humming the key it is going to be. Yeah, by the note that makes sense, you mean the note that you could keep playing over and over through the song without sounding out of place.

  • @overcometheidiots

Pretty much. Your last sentence is the very definition of a "common tone". I tend to use that in my electric guitar playing. Humming the note is something my church's music minister does, which helps with finding the tonal center. But try that exercise I was telling you...find that bass note, in your case, that has that feeling of "home". It's really the easiest note to find. Once you find it, the note that you're playing is the key that it's in. (...)

  • @overcometheidiots

(...) I can test you on it to make sure you're on the right track, if you'd like.

  • @kyle101332 — Thanks! I am pumped to put out "My Soul Magnifies The Lord," by Chris Tomlin, which is off of the same Christmas CD that this song is on. It is going to be my next song. There are some cool quick runs in the song that make you feel like a great bass player. I might have it up in the next few days hopefully.

  • @overcometheidiots haha hopefully but great job

  • awsome tabing on this song :) nice job

  • Though it gets into a bit of music theory, when it comes to figuring out a song, I actually don't try to figure out the key at first. I listen to the chord progression first. Of course, that statement makes absolutely no sense unless you know the Nashville or Roman numbering system. But I figure out the key once I find, off all things, the BASS NOTE that fits in the scale, and and its function within the scale. Once I have that, I know the key.

  • Yeah, the song starts out in D, then goes to E. One fairly simple way to figure out the key by listening to it, since you know what notes to hit, is listen for the 1 note. The 1st note in the scale and the 1 chord in the chord progression has the feeling of completion, resolution to it. If you feel like the songs is complete (like this one) when the song is done, that's the 1 chord.
