Its otherwise known as an inertia squat you clowns. AKA overcoming the weight of an immobile object to get it moving (overcoming inertia). Very heavy partial inertia squats will translate to a stronger full squat as your body becomes accustomed to dealing with the much heavier loading that you would not be able to achieve through full squatting.
if you don't know what a lockout is then go looks at some videos of some power lifters training and then maybe you might be able to figure while partial lifts like this are used
Maybe this kid should just do a couple sets of real squats. Either way, the best part of this vid is the goofball with the Inzer suit at the end. What a mark.
Why the fuck would someone ever do this? It's completely useless and incredibly dangerous...absolutely zero safety and zero accomplishment with whatever the he'll a "lockout" is
Dislikes in this video come only from people WHO HAVENT GOT A FUCKIN CLUE about iron sport. Anyone who wants to argue with that is welcome, I ll fuckin crush you with arguments bitches.
I do those myself actually, however unless I were going to squat near a grand I wouldn't have done this because I don't see much benefit in doing accessory work at which one can be so far ahead their max on a lift. I, personally use accessory work to attack weaknesses. Just food for thought. Nice lift though, I know first handed that is no easy task.
Guys he weighs ~180 pounds and has squatted over 600 pounds in competition. Very few people do that. I think he knows what he's doing with the lockout.
i agree that is a lot of weight to be lifting for someone your size, but i think as a training tool you should go just 1.5-3" above parallel max. a lockout starting that high isnt going to be very effective.. you should be doing weight that is heavier than you max but still within reach
@clovis6000 In conclusion, your evidence is anecdotal (hint, bad), and you're ignorant, close-minded, and belittle people who understand the body better than, at a much younger age.
@clovis6000 Continuing along... I'm a bug-sized kid? Because, you know, 6 feet 195 pounds is small and all, except that it's above average pretty much everywhere. The person in this video did an ATG squat with over 600 pounds; a 1000 pound lock out is not extreme when you have strength like that. I don't fuck around with ridiculous weights; you're basing this off of a 265# where my speed is better than my leg strength, hence the difficulty.
@clovis6000 So you spam my channel again and then block me, and you call me the kid. Your immaturity is striking. I don't care what anecdotal evidence you have; I call you ignorant because you make ridiculous assumptions based on your own experience without doing any research. Do I know everything? No. That's another of your ridiculous claims. I simply understand how lifting works better than you, despite being younger, because I am not close-minded to how the CNS works and what people can do.
Thanks for the video, i saw a guy doing this sort of thing at the gym the other day and didn't have the foggiest idea what the hell it was, he was doing some pretty intense stuff with the PT so i didn't go up and ask, but now it all makes sense. Cheers.
its funny how some ppl try to judge u bro.. it's a LOCKOUT SQUAT not A FULL SQUAT !!! lockout squat helps u lift lighter weight with full motion ( back squat) good job bro keep up the good work
@clovis6000 He's a raw unity lifter, that means he's stronger than you will ever be, do your research, the dude is an exceptional powerlifter, something you are not and he is training in such a way as to continue being an exceptional powerlifter, something you will never be.

4. Good luck with your lifetime virginity and WOW.
@DeadliftequalsLife I'm looking at your vids and trying to figure out which of these tiny MF'ers you are.
Never said I was a pro, lol, simple state level guy at best.
Since you seem to be the type that thinks he knows it all, I will just let you and your tiny leg buddy in the vid find out the hard way by fucking around with stupid, pointless lifts like the one he's doing.
Just wait for your first really serious injury to show you just how fragile you really are.
Bob Peoples did a lot of squat lockouts and deadlifted over 700 freakin pounds beltlessly at 165 bodyweight before steroids were around. And the guy in this video, WC Waldron, squatted a raw 473 at 180 pounds. How much did you weigh when you took "545lbs for a deep double"? You seem to be interested in having a pissing match, so let's talk about how John Grimek (a better BBer than you ever were) did hip lifts.
On a check at powerliftingwatch, this guy eventually did a 606 raw squat at 181 (which is top 3), and had a top ten raw total. He also did a 733 equipped squat.
So, again, if you're after a pissing contest there's a whole slew of motherfuckers who contradict your disturbed ramblings on lifting.
@clovis6000 So, I call you ignorant in a video, and you spam my channel with a false statement. Let's start with that: it wasn't 225, it was 265. You're obviously too blinded by your own self-love to even read. If I had been almost crushed, I probably would have failed the lift, not gotten up a nonmax lift.
Your ignorance stems from the fact that you think the person in this video can't squat 315 because of his leg size, when he's done >600 raw. Muscle density varies by person, you idiot.
haha all fools calling you crazy. Its not rare to use "over weight" for giving the body overload impulses and to get used to handling huge weight. If competing powerlifter does it knowing what he is doing there is no problem with it.
This type of training does work but you gotta know how to progress from it. Just doing a lockout wont make you squat more, it will just make your lockout stronger. If you cant squat anywhere near your lockout, it makes no sense to train lockouts. What you should do is, Set up your safety bars to do a lockout, unrack the weight and do a set of 3 reps, down and up. The next week lower the safety bars another inch and repeat, and so forth... tell your squatting rather than doing just lockouts.
You might have some point. But lockouts Do Work. In theroy lowering the pin sounds easy, but in practice once the pin is below certain point (usually) before parallel it will be impossible to squat.
The Lockout weight will always be much a head of the Squat weight.
I do lockouts and on other days I do pin squats but starting from bottom - at the weaker portion of the move.
The proof that they work is that many athelete - track and field - do it.
Regardless of all the b.s. aside, it definitely boosts confidence and builds a strong core. If you can handle 1000lbs on your back, a 500lb on the shoulders will feel light, which is half the battle.
LOL at people wondering if this works. try it, and see if it works. even if its just mental. it is real. if not, you just moved a THOUSAND POUNDS which is incredible. even if its a couple inches, 405 would feel like lightweight right afterwards compared to this BadAss-eryness.
i like how people rage on him. i'd like to see anyone commenting on this video do a squat lockout with half this weight. 100% gauranteed they can't do it.
can anyone help, im 13 and have been lifting for only 6 months, my current weight is 140 pounds at 5 8", is this normal or too little at my age, my goal is the be in the 200 pound range by the time i'm done growing, is that likely?
@deathkinggodfather1 forget about how much you weight, just focus on increasing your strength and your bodyweight will naturally adjust. YOu dont want FAT weight, so focus on training rater than the eating.
@RandomStevie you try to disrespect me by making fun of the video games i play. I'm saying that if you squat to full depth, it strengthens the hip flexors, rather than just moving it 2 inches from a rack. Can you tell me what muscle he is working when he does this?
@rscabbage My friend, this is only an assistance exercise, he obviously doing a full workout with full squats. And by the way, this type of exercise tax almost every muscle and tendon in your body, if you don't feel the pump feeling in your muscles it doesn't mean that you aren't working them. Try to do this in a consistent manner and eventually you would feel your real working full squat really light.
@rscabbage You can see lifting as a good way to be fit and feel well. Others like me see lifting as a way to be the strongest one can be for represent a country. In order to be the strongest you must train yourself past your expected capabilities, there a saying "what doesn't kill you make you stronger".You can think: well if I do this I can hurt myself...or you can think: if I do this I will be stronger. I prefer the second one, take notice that the strongest never do what everybody does.
I think such limited range exercises can be useful for serious competitive powerlifters. But it's tendons and ligaments that are really being stressed in these limited range movements. That means that injury is likely to be severe. It would be important to work up slowly over a period of years to develop in this movement. Takes a long time to build tendons and ligaments. Much slower response than muscle.
The people who dislike this video don't know the wonders of this tipe of exercise. Paul Anderson use this tipe of training with two 55 gallon steel barrels fill with concrete weight in probably more than 1,800 lbs, and Paul could squat very well over 1,000 lbs. People should stop looking for training routines in Cosmopolitan magazines. DAMN!!!
Do you know where I can find any credible info on lockouts? I heard someone arguing that in addition to training the central nervous system quarter squats and lockouts actually helped with knee stability by strengthening the medial section of your quad. It could be BS, of course, but I'm wondering if you or anyone else has heard something similar or seen a credible study on this.
@iloton I'm not aware of any scientific literature on this specific subject. I believe the book "Supertraining" by Mel Siff might touch on this some but I'm not 100% sure.
@iloton According to some, though I can't find the study, the vastus mdialis works hardest in the last 35 or so degrees of extension, so yes, they help knee stability. Just supporting heavy ass weight improves knee stability.
@karite36 Thank you . . . yes, someone else pointed me to two studies that, when combined, make a good argument for lockouts as a way to improve knee stability. The first study basically said that the vastus medialis helps with knee tracking and the second said that the last 35 degrees of the squat hits the vastus medialis the most, so it seems reasonable to conclude that lockouts would be good for knee stability.
The fact of the matter is he just fucking picked up 1,000lbs while 99.9999% of the population can't. So quit your bitching and enjoy the vid!

TheUnholyPosole 5 months ago
@TheUnholyPosole
GreenMove100 5 months ago
@GreenMove100
The proof for a strength athlete is mainly in that Paul Anderson did them and was witnessed by John Grimek as squatting 900x10.

Regardless of all the b.s. aside, it definitely boosts confidence and builds a strong core. If you can handle 1000lbs on your back, a 500lb on the shoulders will feel light, which is half the battle.

LOL at people wondering if this works. try it, and see if it works. even if its just mental. it is real. if not, you just moved a THOUSAND POUNDS which is incredible. even if its a couple inches, 405 would feel like lightweight right afterwards compared to this BadAss-eryness.

can anyone help, im 13 and have been lifting for only 6 months, my current weight is 140 pounds at 5 8", is this normal or too little at my age, my goal is the be in the 200 pound range by the time i'm done growing, is that likely?
deathkinggodfather1 6 months ago
@deathkinggodfather1 forget about how much you weight, just focus on increasing your strength and your bodyweight will naturally adjust. YOu dont want FAT weight, so focus on training rater than the eating.

@rscabbage I don't think you understand why he did this. GTF back to your COD.
RandomStevie 6 months ago
@RandomStevie you try to disrespect me by making fun of the video games i play. I'm saying that if you squat to full depth, it strengthens the hip flexors, rather than just moving it 2 inches from a rack. Can you tell me what muscle he is working when he does this?
rscabbage 6 months ago
@rscabbage My friend, this is only an assistance exercise, he obviously doing a full workout with full squats. And by the way, this type of exercise tax almost every muscle and tendon in your body, if you don't feel the pump feeling in your muscles it doesn't mean that you aren't working them. Try to do this in a consistent manner and eventually you would feel your real working full squat really light.
KarlosPaco33 6 months ago
@KarlosPaco33 Well to be honest, all i see in this guys future is pulling or hurting a muscle from lifting 5 times his body weight.
rscabbage 6 months ago
@rscabbage You can see lifting as a good way to be fit and feel well. Others like me see lifting as a way to be the strongest one can be for represent a country. In order to be the strongest you must train yourself past your expected capabilities, there a saying "what doesn't kill you make you stronger".You can think: well if I do this I can hurt myself...or you can think: if I do this I will be stronger. I prefer the second one, take notice that the strongest never do what everybody does.
KarlosPaco33 6 months ago
@KarlosPaco33 yeah, breaking a bone or tearing a muscle will really help him in his progress.
rscabbage 6 months ago
I think such limited range exercises can be useful for serious competitive powerlifters. But it's tendons and ligaments that are really being stressed in these limited range movements. That means that injury is likely to be severe. It would be important to work up slowly over a period of years to develop in this movement. Takes a long time to build tendons and ligaments. Much slower response than muscle.

that is actually really hard to do, very nice job.

It could be BS, of course, but I'm wondering if you or anyone else has heard something similar or seen a credible study on this.
iloton 7 months ago
@iloton I'm not aware of any scientific literature on this specific subject. I believe the book "Supertraining" by Mel Siff might touch on this some but I'm not 100% sure.
WaldronPower 7 months ago
@iloton According to some, though I can't find the study, the vastus mdialis works hardest in the last 35 or so degrees of extension, so yes, they help knee stability. Just supporting heavy ass weight improves knee stability.
karite36 6 months ago
@karite36 Thank you . . . yes, someone else pointed me to two studies that, when combined, make a good argument for lockouts as a way to improve knee stability. The first study basically said that the vastus medialis helps with knee tracking and the second said that the last 35 degrees of the squat hits the vastus medialis the most, so it seems reasonable to conclude that lockouts would be good for knee stability.
iloton 6 months ago
@iloton No problem, no problem. Because of the angle, deadlifts help that as well, barbell hack squats preferably.
