  • Studying how people like Glenn Gould studies, only serves to illustrate a point: Each individual finds his/her own technique and their own way of practicing. The one that better works for us. This worked for Glenn but it doesn't mean every musician should practice like that or make the sounds he made when he played. That worked for him. Each one of us has a little homework to do and meditate on what is it that works for us... and abide by it 'till death.

  • @darkhorse5476 i think the song is moonlight sontana

  • spirit of gould:

the world revolved around him. bach is the only true composer, everyone else sucks donkeys balls and should be shot and die a lonely death.

remember, he did not only make fun of chopin's sonata, he also said that "mozart died too late" cos he didn't like his later works.

what kind of sick pervert he was. in my opinion, he died too late.

oops, forgot that he never had a life.

  • @fuckshitass911 That's why his life is documented, oh, and, he said that Bach wasn't his favourite composer. Check it out. He did say some hard things, but trying to make fun of one of the most important pianists ever is pretty lame, especially when you're nothing much yourself.

  • @CSPlayerDamon

i said he didn't disprove the argument that gould was a self-centered person.

if i listened to music that i didn't like in a concert or something, i would still clap my hands at the end of the performance. apparantly, from what i've read so far, gould wasn't even close to being that type of person.

whatever, he didnt like, sucked automatically.

and i didn't make fun of him, i was trying to express my own opinion. i really think he was the one who should die early.

  • @fuckshitass911 let me rebut that piece by piece:

    1. Ofcourse! Gould had achieved such mastery and the music he played was pretty much all he cared for. How is him endulging himself self centering in a bad way?

    2. That's you, I personally think you shouldn't applaude something you didn't like, just because it's ''nice''.

    3. We tend to think that what we dislike is bad. (you're doing it with Glenn Gould)

There's no unbiased opinion, and he did die rather early. So why still so hurt?

  • @pacrijna

so suddenly all the 'masters' in piano had the special priviledge to ruin a music in any way he liked without having to care about the notes.

you can't seem to be able to differentiate between composing and piano playing.

-you may not like the music but i think it is natural to applause to show respect for the player for their effort (not including attempts to murder the composer)

surely i'm not the only person who do that?

    - being an ass in bad universally.

    try harder.

  • @fuckshitass911

You're using the word ruining as a general truth, it is merely your opinion. Gould cared very much about the music, but he just didn't like some composers.

Your second sentence doesn't make sense because Gould believed that piano playing was composing the piece ''as it happened''. Yet again, applauding something bad purely out of animosity is your way of doing things and lastly : Being an ass is not a universal sin.

learn the difference between observation and opinion?

  • @pacrijna

attempt to modify the score with no regards of the instructions causes the music to deviate from composer's expectations. may not be his intention but he did ruin the music.

he saw most compositions as pile of shit.

there is something called etiqutte, which is practised very often among people who attend regular concerts.

being an ass is a sin. just as spitting on one's grave then claiming you have a bad mood thats beyond your control.

there's no point on continuing this further.

  • @fuckshitass911 i remember you, fuckshitass911!! :D you're the one raging a lot of people :D it makes me laugh at how many people you manage to rage :D

  • @fuckshitass911 very good point

  • @fuckshitass911 you can ask any composer, and I'm pretty sure they will all say that any piece isn't finished until it's played, so Glenn Gould statement that the interpreter must take the role of a composer, is true. My teacher of musical analysis has been stubborn on teaching that as well, he's a composer himself, I don't really know if he likes Glenn Gould but his ideas are very alike to Gould's when it comes to playing music. And if GG altered something, he always did it on a good foundation

  • @darkhorse5476

The 7th PianoSonate of Beethoven 1st Movement Presto!

  • talk about totally enthralled in his music!

  • everywhere, everything, or in fact every objects can be musiced by him

  • The chair that Gould always used looks uncomfortable.

  • He walks towards the water, lost in the music - but he knows the camera is there, doesn't he? Just how "lost in the music" is he really?

  • i think everyone know this feeling of him this that the music just comes and u are singing it awesome guy

  • That's right, I agree... hehehe

  • he is crazy genius.....

  • dont ask y but he reminds me of lee evans

  • from 0:44 to the end: Apparently that is how he practiced.

  • i practice like this too! whats the next step to becoming more like him?:D

  • well the next step would be trying not to be like Glenn. He is great is his own way and you're great in your own way. If you wanna be like Glenn you got to be Original.

  • @whatthecello42 thats actually true. he hardly practiced at all. mostly just read the music over and over

  • my god... he propably needed one clean copy of score to actually play it.

  • ahahaha mine are worst!!! but i use pencil..

  • i just use a different fingering every time lol

  • Comment removed
