Whites use race as a decision making factor all the time. Just look at the racial composition of the Senate, Wall Street, and the the shows on tv.

But that's what Obama and Sotomayor suggested.

At worst, Reagan's comment is indicative of tokenism, which is a much milder form of racism than Sotomayor's talk of "latin logic" or whatever she goes on abou....

Neither 1 gender nor 2 race considerations negate 3 a brilliant judicial mind and 4 honorable principles, simply by co-existing with them.

The travesty and irresponsibility only happen when 1 and 2 are greater considerations than 3 and 4, whichever side of the political divide the nominating President stands.

At the same time, the law requires that no gender nor race take precedence over another--as long as being female and Hispanic provides one with insight BUT does not lead one to favor one's own gender over another or one's own race over another, then I see nothing wrong with having someone like Sotomayor sit on the Supreme Court.
