He didn't herd with the villies, those would die to my 5 coss/3 huss, and his army is not outrageously good with only jans...

You see him put villies on berry bushes, which is a dead giveaway of a poor AOE3 player.

Even with equally skilled players, a strelet rush will always overpower a pure jan rush. Even a beginner with Russia should be able to, at the very least, fend off a jan rush. Unless the Russian tries to get fancy with a 17 vill age or a FF, he will win.

With xbow you would probably at least defend the rush, but if the jans are microd into melee combat then the bow probably will tie. And muskets will probably lose but just barely.

vs ki it may work, but against real players you wont have a chance. rush means to attack with the first 5-10 jans and send instantly some of them on. especially with ottos you have to rush hard and consequently. its imo the best rush nation.

However, I think ottos r pretty noob cuz any1 can play them (literally...) and it requires no skill. No one is better, with russians you can easily pown the first army of your opponent (admit he makes only infantry) with strelets and shipments cav. But then when you have killed units, i think you won't destroy easily buildings , whereas you could with jans.

They are different and have each their problems and their qualities. Personnaly I don't play any of them ^^'
