I just revisited this, and that motion is the basis of a bunch of the weird fountain variations I've been finding lately. For any weave (since fountains are weave turns) carry that weave over the head and to the other side of your body, adding or subtracting a degree of twist from it but keeping the beat count the same. Then you use the weave in that position as the basis of a fountain (that may now end up going behind the head or getting all hybridy or some such).
Woo finally you have some free time in your hectic life! Think you could do a Nano blog on the topic of compound flowers? or compound "atomic" flowers?(No other way I can explain it... think insiginas "cateye flowers" or I think you said 2:3 but each petal is rotated 90 deg away from the previous. It gets pretty nutty once you add in the other arm and you end up with a 3D atomic cateye flower all around your arms!) Hopefully i can make it up to the vulcan and they can help me out with this....
that might work if you had the poi in a normal butterfly motion. Same time opposites. I'm gonna try that... I'll let you know how it looks when I'm out of the hospital for head injuries :P
If your poi are together-opposites, then your arms would need to be as well, if we are trying to keep the flower symmetric. This would mean arms tog-opp starting and ending with the arms crossed over the head.
If you spin tog-opp but do split-opp arms like in this video, your poi will be 180º out of phase: one will have petals at the cardinal points, the other will have petals at the diagonal points.
a chance in that the probability id non-zero... but no definitive plans yet. (possibly other DVD projects being discussed, but getting web vids up regularly is my current aim for a bit)
Yeah that is because the antispin loop that happens as the arms untwist is the most emphasized... cuz your arms aren't crossed anymore. I need to work o that: tone it down on that side and stretch it out over the head so I get more distance on the recrossing of the arms.
im gonna get this move down tonight!!!! I came back ha nice flowlight colors btw

@schmarzech Nice 1. That stuff is fun to explore. Zan and also Lester of Fire Groove are into it too.

hope to see you down here in the tampa bay, fl area sometime soon!

i love how the simplicity of the idea is inherently so technical, must play with variants, goofy flowers here we come.

I love how you can piece together turning and spinning so brilliantly

Cool, I had the same idea last week and now you did your nano blog. I´m on the right track :-D.

Alien Jon is making tech vids now... SWEEEEETTTTT. I'm looking forward to your new stuff at the next Flow Temple, if you're in town.

Sweeeet - this is going to be an awesome techblog - may it be many in number

Ooh! We can do polyrhythm hybrids like this too, can't we? Yay for the new blog, mate :) Keep 'em coming!
TaoAvatar20 2 years ago
yeah, totally. If one was to spin split-same (split radial symmetry) You could do long arm vs anti-spin, while using the same arm and body mechanics.

yea! The alien is mighty!

lol so true. The video he put out in july (or so) was awesome. Loved it.

Damn it. i meant antispin loop.
derekjf85 2 years ago
I've been meaning to play with that. Seem a bit scary with the poi swinging right behind your head... but my head is used to it. ;-D
I'll let you know how it turns out. Maybe make another nano-blog about it.

Let me rephrase my question. Can you put the antispin arc in the quarter quadrents instead of the vertical?
derekjf85 2 years ago
Can you have a poi come over your head on the down beat rather then the up beat?
derekjf85 2 years ago
any chance of there being a encyclopoidia 3?
