i owned a p38 walther,now theres apretty sweet feelin,shootable piece.i put thousands thru it,and cant remember a jam...i trust that piece.i dont think it would handle real hot 9mm ammo tho??cant quite remember.im using a cz75b currently, tho my sig 226 was my all time favorite 9mm. the CZ is capable.in an urban shootout,its a 226 and maybe an ak74[very very sweet]or a ppsh[LOOSE AND RELIABLE]..with a drum of course.have ya ever played with an ak74??

@LoneWolf051 ....yes you are absolutely right,it was and is a beloved rifle,but trained or not,especially in combat ,it still is, and was, in fact heavy and bulky.however by the standards of the day,it wasnt that heavy,and many experts call it number 1.personally i'd much prefer the Sturmgewehr 44,but then again that rifle came along much later in the war,and therefore logically may not figure in.In 1942,in an open fight i'd take this rifle sure.In close,PPSH41,1911 on my hip i reckon.

@dempsey981 Very nice, yes the M-1 was easily the best service rifle of the war, and of the Korean war, but the StG was the single most revolutionary firearm to come out of WWII, it revised the long forgotten Russian concept of an assault rifle, and brought it up to modern standards. However no, it cant figure in, because it was produced so little, and was so late in the war, it was never a big contender. Yeah in close combat, I'd take either a Tommy gun, or PPSh 41, and a P-38, or an M1911.

I prefer firing from the prone over any other postion. However, there is nothing wrong with using a rest or bag for sighting purposes. Anyone who thinks otherwise probably doesn't understand the fundamentals of marksmanship.

The best method for sighting in a rifle is from a fixed position utilizing such tools as a rest or sand bag this insures proper placement and consistant bullet accuracy. Ive seen M1 garand for sale at Big 5 Sports. All you have to do is fill out the paper work. No license or even background check, lol. They wanted $799 for that! One guy I know said he remembers you could get em for $50 each.

No, you shouldn't need a license to own a rifle that I know of, since I have my own M1, and all that was required was to register it with the county/state. But, since the German Nazi MP-40 is an automatic, you won't be able to buy a REAL one, as civilians cannot carry automatics. Otherwise, I would store my SAW at home, and not at the NG armory.

@kuhn19 popular misconception, civilians CAN own automatics, what it takes is a lengthy paperwork trail and money to get the proper BATF tax stamp to purchase the weapon....of course most fully automatic weapons are going to cost you an arm and a leg to purchase and transfer...

@huey148 This is true but also if the ATF does issue you a permit it is only for the one firearm that is applied for and that it cannot cross state lines. So if you move you would have to file all over again provided that the state you live in allows private ownership of automatics. Oh, and only automatics built before 1986 can be applied for. So, it's ALOT of hassle.

Is it true that you can only shoot military 30-06 in M1 Garands?

the garand action was designed to shoot m2 ball ammo which was a 150 grn round fired at 2880 fps so any commercial ammo with similar specs should be ok. but if you get away from those specs it may damage the operating rod. i used remington 150 grn fmj the first time i went to the range and had no problem.

The M-1 I am firing has a new Maple stock she was built by a Gun Smith in WV and other than the stock it is all original ww2. My Buddy bought his at a gun show it was a CMP rifle he refinished it himself using a Boyds stock and some new parts.
