I must apologise for my perhaps demeaning comments about Max Wilson; I didn't have all of the facts until I got the 2001 CART yearbook (which is WAY cool!). Max was relatively quick in testing and often was the fastest Lola in practices in 2001 (doing so with the uncompetitive Phoenix engine; an old Ilmor), drove 10/10ths in wet Portland to P4, and led at Cleveland briefly after the front row had trouble.
Not brilliant but not bad, either. I'm sorry I didn't give him his due.
Big Mo and Takagi probably should have stayed on the throttle through the puddle. Of course, common sense pevailed over logic and told them that doing so is crazy.

That was a great year..Mikey finished 2nd. But the worst part of that year was Gidley crash and they cut the race by 10 laps..That was a huge mistake by CART..miss the days of CART but sure hell dont miss the BS
The track will still curve, i think, but that bridge has killed more than Gidley so it's gotta go. I think that it will offer a great new vantage point. Now I just wish they would build access to view from the Carousel to Canada Corner.
There was such an scary silence at the track...I was there. Also, Katherine Leggs crash too. Samething.

That bridge that Gidley hit is no more. As I am writing this they are tunneling under the track and have dismanteled that deadly bridge.

You're kidding. They are taking down the Billy Mitchell Bridge? I loved that bridge and the series of turns that lead up to it. I will miss it.
