Man my first competition i missed my 1st 2 lifts cuz i didnt listen to the commands. First lift i racked it to soon and second one i jumped the count on the press call, But i got my 3rd lift so i got a 4th lift and ended up winning it. Im goin to another one in bout a month hopefuly i want screw up. lol
I should of had 255 in this competition, I was hitting 260 paused before in training, this meet was bad, i almost got red lighted on all my attempts. But the next year I hit 285 paused in the competition and 300 pounds touch and go, and came back the next year to win this competition overall with the highest bench press and deadlift total.
bad eating habits, a love for junk food, trying to lose to much weight when I was already a comfortable weight, and losing interest in working out, back in 2007 those all happened and I went from 165 to 230 within about 8 months, didn't gain weight the right way, mostly fat at first, unfortunate but shit happens, but overtime I have turned a good portion of the fat into muscle and have gained strength finally, I was pretty plateaued at 165-175 pounds.
im 15 and bench 225x1 isnt this kind of like stupid for a grown man not trying to be a keyboard commander and write shit but is that supposed to be strong for a 160 pound man or no?
im 15 and bench 225x1 isnt this kind of like stupid for a grown man not trying to be a keyboard commander and write shit?
I don't understand what you mean by that comment.
225 is good for a 160 pound man, but not great, it is def way better the average 15 year old 160 pound man though, and even better then most average adults that size. The stop 160 pounds guys in competitions who are grown ups usually bench high 200s or low 300s.
@WeightLifterNerd noo lol i meant im not tryin to be a youtube fagget and write wow i can bench more than u i was just telling u i could bench close to this so is that good for my age im 15 (and i saw ur other vids u can bench a lot more now)
The year after this competition, I managed to pause 285 in competition and could get 300 touch and go. This video was my first meet so I did not have a lot of experience, I almost failed all my attempts because I did not know the commands.
well when I was 15 years old I could bench 240-250 weighing about 150 pounds, my bench didn't really go up to much after those years because I gain weight and lose weight. Also in this competition you have to pause the bar on your chest, which takes off 10-30 pounds what you can touch and go. I actually had hit 260 paused before I entered this meet, and got a long pause on 255 and missed it, 235 was only my second attempt, not my max. Touch and go max was probably 275 at the time.
You still did a good job man. Pound for pound, a 161 pound man benching 235 would beat a 230 pound kid like I was who would struggle to get even a couple good reps with 225, that is in 2006. Congrats on second place that day
this meet was one of my worst performances, but a learning experience and a good meet to start out on, I almost bombed all my attempts due to missing the rack command and racking the weights to early, on my third I failed, and was pissed since i had done 260 paused in training, but the next year I came back to this meet and won it overall top male with the highest total in the bench and deadlift combined in the 165 weight class, my second meet I consider my all time best performance.
actually no lol my dad came from california lol were a little hick town with a ymca that has equipment that should be in the museum of weightlifting lol but ur doing great dont get me wrong.. but i plan to see some big lifts comeign up here on the tube whatya say?
nope this was at his local high school meet with his team he just is a natural pusher. no im not saying its common to have a 405 bencher at 165 but the so called "weakling at are gym" for his weight at 165 benches like300+ But im not triying to put u down trust me LAST THING I want to do but just putting my ten cence in
Well look at any average gym, and tell me how many people you see bench 165 at 300, in most average gyms i don't even see many people bench 300, let alone 400, your gym is probably a popular gym for powerlifters or bodybuilders specifically, a gym where very serious lifters come to train am I right?
no offense bro i aint hatin for u trying and gettin into powerlifting but at in the 200 pound bench range at 165 and that age u should be throwin up 400+ my dad at 18 completly raw just a belt at 165 benched 405 im 14 weigh 125 bench 185 shirt 200+ but keep at it!
Ok I do not quite understand your comment, your sentence structure confuses me, could you retype what you were trying to say please.
Anyways if I am understanding your comment right, are you implying I should of been benching 400+ by this age at a bodyweight of 165?
Because you make it sound like benching 400+ at a 165 bodyweight is an easy thing, especially considering for a raw lifter, seeing a guy 165 bench raw is not common a thing.
If your dad was benching 405 at a 165 bodyweight at age 18, that probably means he was a world class lifter, what is his name, because I never heard anything about a 18 year old 165 pound guy benching 405 raw. This was my first meet by the way I have done much better since then. I have benched 300 raw at a 165 bodyweight, and bench 360+ at 225+ bodyweight currently.
Pretty Cool Video, Good Job bro ! And don't worry that it wasn't your all time best, it was your first show and when you get to your second one all the jitters will be out of you and you can just focus on your lifts !
My second powerlifting competition was my best by far, that will be up sooner or later, but this one I did terrible because of lack of experience basically, but you got to start somewhere.
265 is pretty good for 150 pounds, you would compete as a 165 pounder like I did at that weight though, or you would have to lose a few pounds if you wanted to compete in the 148 pound weight class, you would have to weigh at least 147 pounds to compete in that class, also keep in ,ind you have to pause the bar on your chest in competitions until the judge gives you the press command, so most likely if you touch and go 265, then your pause will probably be 10-30 pounds weaker.
if you hit 265 in competition you might be able to win, if it was a big meet though, you might lose, the pro's usually are hitting 300-350 usually, but if it was a small meet you could probably win, I won a small meet before with a 285 bench press at 165 pounds. So it all depends on what kind of competition you compete in.

Hoping to hit a 405 bench press, and 500 squat and deadlift raw sooner or later, maybe 500 bench and 600 squat and deadlift later down the road.

seems like you had a stronger bottom half as a 165 pounder if you failed 255 half way up! i know now if you get it past the bottom youre golden!

Well thats good then.. cause I rounded my weight. I actually weigh right at 147. So at the 148 lb class, what would be a great lift?
