Its not just because Garchomp was strong that Smogon bumped it up to ubers. Garchomp was mainly bumped up because there wasn't a reliable counter to it, like Excadrill in B/W. To counter Garchomp, you needed to know its moveset, and even then, there was not really a reliable counter for it in the metagame. A choice banded outrage from a max attack Garchomp would OHKO teams easily, even if it was slower than the oppenent's pokemon

For her Spiritomb, I had a good strategy. I have an Alakazam with above normal Sp. Def, thanks to it's nature. So I just used Miracle Eye, & I knew it would survive anything Spiritomb used & then just used Psychic. I kind of built my team on defeating her from the start of my game lol
