@mauro125 arent birds great. sorry to hear about your loss. i have a pineapple conure. i love her so. they are a lot of work, any parrot is, but so rewarding. but as a warning to anyone, be ready to spend a lot of time with your bird. a neglected bird is actually torture for both the bird and the owner.
. I try to work with him but I'm failing. If anyone has any tips or can point out something I'm oviously doing wrong but I don't realize I realy need some help! Thanks
@CryingAngel179 From my experience they can be very moody and can get aggressive. You must use gentle tactics. Talk soothingly to the bird, try teaching it words. Get it familiar with you. Try petting it. Make a motion with your finger letting you know you only want to pet him or pet his beak. After a while he should calm down hopefully but be careful.
@CryingAngel179 Also if it sees you eating the food, it will want it. My bird wants anything and everything I eat once he knows it's food. He's a little fatty.... So try eating healthy food in front of him and then offer him some. He might take. Even when my own bird is pissy at me, he takes anything I give him lol
@CryingAngel179 dont give up...cats have 9 lives...birds have 9 owners :( try stick training. use a chop stick and get yourself a dog clicker. put your bird on a pellet diet. or remove its favorite food...thats now the reward. first you need to get the bird to know click means treat....do nothing but click and give treat to bird...click treat click treat click treat...for a day or two...the bird will actually soon figure out that click means treat.
@CryingAngel179 then start with the stick touching...when the bird touches the tip of the stick...you click and treat...repeat this for a bit....soon the bird will go ANYWHERE to touch the tip of the stick for a click and a treat. this will become a great method to get the bird to go where you want it to go. even a nippy bird will get on your friend to go for the stick. its simple and it works...even guests at my house can use the stick..she doesnt care.
@CryingAngel179 but the most important advise is always use positive reinforcement. never punish. never back down from being bit or scream stupid stuff like "oooowwwweeeyyyy" or spray with water. give the bird a time out is bout all you can do. birds are so smart...watching you get annoyed is actually a reward for it. when you complain about being bit, it thinks "haha..stupid bitch..keep it up" it knows that it can keep you away by biting you....is your bird super loud when in its cage?
. At this point I'm stumped. I try to work with him but I'm failing. If anyone has any tips or can point out something I'm oviously doing wrong but I don't realize I realy need some help! Thanks
@CryingAngel179 a loud bird that is let out of its cage.....is a reward for the bird...you are rewarding your bird for bad behavior. i wait for a quiet moment to let my bird out. i dont want her to associate being super loud and annoying with getting what she wants. what you view as just a regular practice, the bird might view it as a reward. birds are funny..if your bird does something cute(or annoying) you can reward to get them to repeat it...cool if its cute...sucks if its annoying.
I just learned he needs healthy people food but the only thing he will eat is noodles, or tortillas. I can't get him to eat his vegetables or fruit. He will not let me touch him just I can pick him up on my finger. He will talk And chirp when hes happy And im playing music. I cant Get him To play with boxes, straws, blocks or anything else with the exception of bells. He will Not use his mineral block. At this point I'm stumped. I try to work with him but I'm failing. I just started watching Pluto videos recently. He is very beautiful and so smart! I inherited the Quaker my late grandmother left to me but I was very young. Now that I've "grown up" I realize I have a very smart bird who desperately needs better care. I've tried to do my homework and learn about them what I can and you tube helps I think the most. But my Quaker seems so angry. He won't take treats (like blueberry yogurt covered sunflower seeds) he just drops them. I just learned he needs healt
omg i love ur bird! i myself have a quaker parrot and he LVOES to call my dog Skippy's anme and whistle for him. Along with saying "Achoo!" and copying my laugh and an evil laugh he heard on TV. Such funny birds :) please look at my vids of my bird Saige!
They just LOVE tunnels!!! I've got a plastic tube hanging in my baby's cage and she LOVES IT!! She loves doing peek-a-boo in there and also in her HAPPY HUT.... Have you got Pluto a Happy Hut to sleep in??
