changing the words dont work for me and on top of that your recording for the other artist is fucked up so this is so one sided geeez do you like Beverley Knight hahaha cuz i cant tell......hahaha
All the videos were ripped from youtube, so the quality varies. You can hardly argue that the Beverley clips are of superior quality, did you miss the video of Beverley singing "Think"? It is, by far, the worst quality of all the videos used.
I do feel, though, that should you wish to continue dialogue you may want to take a refresher course in English; because most of what you just wrote was barely even legible.
@MakeSense10 WRONG! This is nowhere near "the best of Beverley" - check my other videos and Youtube in general for that. These just happen to be performances in which both Beverley and the compared artist have sung. Radical notion for a comparison, huh?
@nickivsmith LOL yeah I love Fantasia too (a LOT) but I've been loving Beverley for about 15 years so I'm, of course, bias towards her. Very nearly saw her ('tasia) when she did her gig at Indigo2 in London but couldn't afford it in the end - would love for her to come back some time when finances are better though, one artist that definitely needs to be appreciated live.
Fantasia, Mary J, Jennifer, and whoever are kindergarteners compared to Beverley. Ask any producer or writer who they want to work with. Ask Quincy, Stevie, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Prince.....etc. Beverly Knight is the "baddest" voice in the industry. No one can touch her and I'm an American saying that.
Mary can't hold a candle to Beverley Knight. Beverley Knight is the world's Queen of Soul. She is the most awesome singer of the 21st Century. Mary J. Blige couldn't get on the same stage with Beverley Knight M.B.E.
Beverly Knight is the new British Queen of Soul and she should be bigger than what she is over here and State side aswell I think its because she doesnt do tallent shows to her its the music pure and simple not the fame
Beverley is one of those raw underrated jewels. She has so many layers...every time I hear her I'm thinking of another singer, I can compare her to, but she has her own distinct sound. (For example: A muuuuuuuuch stronger Damita Haddon with darker vocals, Heather Headly, a growling Deniece Williams, Tramaine Hawkins rawness, Shirley trumpet belts, Trenyce from American Idol distinctiveness, even a tiny dark bit of Erykah..) The girl just has layers. One of a kind!
This is what I mean about pitch perfect, emotion, watch?v=VaH8FzJqslg . Tramaine can go off vocally with growls/acrobat, but she's perfection even when she's subdued.
@MsLetmeinplease Tramaine Hawkins is one of the great gospel singers in America. She started off with the Hawkins family---who were the early 80's/late 70's version of Kirk Franklin, but better. Tramaine's peak was in the late 80's. She was out at the same time as Whitney Houston, many compared her and Whitney--which I think she's stronger than Whitney. Some of her hits are Changed, Potter's House. She even did a duet (a la Natalie/Nat King Cole) with Mahalia Jackson because she's so legendary
@SparkMyWorld Oops, missed this comment. From what I've heard of Tramaine so far, I'm inclined to agree that she has a better voice. No denying Whitney has an outstanding voice, but I never bought into the "best voice ever" argument. There are soul/rnb/jazz/gospel singers a plenty who could give Whitney a run for her money, they're just not famous enough. Will definitely have to add a few Tramaine albums to my CD collection now that I've heard her though!
@MsLetmeinplease I forgot to add about Tramaine, that although she's "gospel famous." She never crossed over mainstream like Yolanda Adams, but she's much more talented. If I didn't know any better, I'd think Beverley Knight studied her in some things. Tramaine is technical, but when she gets loose (raw, growl), I hear a bit of Beverly doing that.
@SparkMyWorld I agree, she is better than Yolanda. No doubt that Beverley would have heard of her, Beverley presents her own radio show called "Gospel Nights" and has interviewed many Gospel singers like Ann Nesby & Mavis Staples; and she presented the MOBO gospel award with Michelle Williams. Gospel is Beverley's passion! She grew up singing in a pentecostal church with her mum leading the choir.
Can you send me the links to a bunch of Tramaine's best performances please?
@SparkMyWorld You don't get any emotion from Beverley? She's a very passionate performer who writes all of her own songs based on her life experiences. What about this song she wrote for her best friend who died? /watch?v=7-ZveuzGqBE
Or this song she wrote after a long term relationship ended. /watch?v=tbF11uXyiQk
What do you think of this Prince song she performed with the NPG./watch?v=p7KcJfoGWSM
@MsLetmeinplease That Prince performance was off the chain. I also hear a lil bit of my favorite singer Tramaine Hawkins. I think she still emotes less, and depends on acrobats, volume, and lots of growls. Her voice is something special.
@SparkMyWorld lol, that Prince performance was impromptu too. After the show she said "I had no idea they'd call me up on stage to sing". After that, Prince invited her to sing at his aftershow gigs at the indigo2, and after those performances he jetted her out to L.A. to perform with him and Stevie Wonder for his Oscars aftershow gig.
Beverley also gets her growl from church, her mum lead the choir and she sang in church from the age of 5. have a listen to Jesus Loves Me /watch?v=h2VFydq8Wy4
@MsLetmeinplease She's definitely a "church" singer, much more in expression/acrobats, than emotions. She's a mix of Trenyce from American Idol, a little Deniece Williams, and and the raw side of Tramaine. She has a lot of layers too her. It appears she is very consistent in her performances---Mary J. Blige, who is jazzy r&b---has her on & off times. And Fantasia is an acquired taste, except in person or live where she's better than you can imagine.
Agreed about Fantasia, but I really like Beverley's voice, although she can be shouty at times. I'm familiar with Fantasia's church growls coming from the C.O.G.I.C., but I don't equate loud volume and shouting with skillfulness all the time. I'm glad to hear Beverley's voice, she's been in the game a long time. I'm trying to figure out who she sounds like----a growling Denise Williams.
