Bless all you super talented and sharing keyboardist! My one relevant criticism(but a very humbly spoken) It has seem to be the case for decades of my past and you tube has really brought it to light that barring a few players, many gospel players who grew up and learned to play keys in the church never learned the proper ways to identify & name chords especially those with alt and upper extensions, if at all. There is a STANDARD LANGUAGE by which chords are named BASED on western music theory.
Outstanding video, Brotha! Pretty chords! And a funky groove behind it! I was singin' "She's a Bad Mamma Jamma" to it - very similar chords. Thanks for your work, and please do more of those soul, funk, gospel progressions!!
Wesley, thanks so much, what a great little groove. Am taking it around the circle as an exercise. Yeh, that's what I''m talking about! Keep it up down there.
hmm. I'm using the sequencer but the bass sound is called Funkylicious Bass and the Ep is the Pan Suit EP 2. The EP is from the upgrade released a few years ago. I hope it helps.
The A is in the Left Hand and yes it's inverted. The actual spelling of the chord would be A C E G B but I've inverted it to A G B C E. I would suppose voicing would be a better term. Have a nice day :-)
i Know its been a few months and wesley has already answer your question but i just was posting just in case you didn't get it . when you play chords you can split it across the keybord and between both hands which gives it a different sound (aka voicing) so you don't have to play the A on the same hand are even in the same octive if all the notes are there then the chord is complete
I loved it. Wonderful instruction. Thank you for your generosity is sharing the method, and for inspiring me to give it a go. Four chords never sounded so soulful to me.
I erased some guy's comment by accident. They shouldn't put the reply and remove links so close together. Anyway the guy said that the chord I was looking for was a Cmaj7#11. Good looking out!
I was definitely feeling the chords sounds like something you might play for offering time at the church or what not but keep up the work that was very good
hi, i like the chords, i just had a suggestion in regards to the G chord, rather, do an Fmaj, or even minor to change it up a little... and when turning around do Ebmaj7 and Bbmaj... just trying let me know how you like it..
I'm finally getting around to trying that.... It's different. It will take me a while to get used to that sound but it might be pretty cool. Thanks for the tip
C,E,F#,B with D in the bass i think could possibly be D7sus2add6 maybe?? i dont know but that seemed right in my head. nice chord progressions though very useful
After putting some thought into it, I just think it's a D13 with the 5th and 11th omitted. The D7sus would have an 'A' in there somewhere. As I hear all the time.... who cares as long as it sounds good right?
No it's a plain old D13. The ear will never hear a chord with the 9th in the bass - it will always sound like something else. Combine that with the context (Am7 precedes it and it moves to a chord a 4th below) and with the fact that the notes make a simple D7 (with extensions) and there is no way to hear it other than a D13.
Oh my Gosh, I absolutely loved the groove at the end of the video and how you put those chords together. I've never seen a C+6,9 before either. I like the alternate chord. This was great! I'll be using this all the time.
Mate, I've been taking piano lessons all my life and had almost given up on piano until I heard these mean variations which lit the spark again!! wicked as my bro!! keep it up
You would be correct, however now that I think about it, this groove would technically be in the key of C. I guess it depends on how you look at it. In the key of C it would be a vi-ii-V-I progression.
It wouldn't hurt. Some say that you should be fluent in every key. That would be great... in a perfect world. I would suggest having 3 or 4 "go to" keys. Obvious I wouldn't neglect the other keys but i don't believe it to be realistic to know every single key the same.
I must admit that I first I thoguht that I wasn't going to learn anything from this... But after hearing it from u and learning the chords... mad respect for u. Please keep it up and keep em coming. I'm looking forward to more

Wesley, what kind of progression would this be? Is it something like a i-V-VII-III
wildnites558 3 years ago
You would be correct, however now that I think about it, this groove would technically be in the key of C. I guess it depends on how you look at it. In the key of C it would be a vi-ii-V-I progression.

Great R&B changes there. I assume it would be useful to learn these changes in other important keys too, right?

It wouldn't hurt. Some say that you should be fluent in every key. That would be great... in a perfect world. I would suggest having 3 or 4 "go to" keys. Obvious I wouldn't neglect the other keys but i don't believe it to be realistic to know every single key the same.
