Groucho and Tallulah and Judy, oh my! Such a harmonic convergence of talent, style, and class will, unfortunately, never be duplicated by today's sadly lacking personalities.
I love Judy...just ended watching "Born Yesterday", a few minutes ago and then this. All superb actors, here, in their own right.
Outside of independent films__
and a few A list actors; 90% of all actors today suck!!!! Movies today Suck!!! I Don't go to most movies today. Saved a lot of money from what I've seen thru here, reviews all around, and knew from trailors they make you watch that go BOOOM! and don't tell you who stars in it.
@mgmbacklot Helen Hunt? Judi Dench? For what films? I think you are a decade off. The 1987 Best Actress Oscar should have gone to Meryl Streep in Ironweed, a movie no one saw.
That was really great! Thanks for posting it! I really loved how you ended it with Bette and Gloria! I've seen all 3 of films and though I really loved Judy in 'Born Yesterday' ( fantastic comic timing!) I consider it such an injustice. Not that SHE won, but that she won over Bette and Gloria! They were such AMAZING performances; so utterly brilliant! I do believe Judy deserved praise for her performance but to win it by default... But well, as always, it's a matter of opinion and this is mine.
wow that was really good. Thank you for posting that.
That was so sweet of Judy to tell Ms. Barrymore all the kind things she said. That was her night and she didn't have to do that. Gee that shows what a nice lady she was.
Fan f***ing tastic! What a classy tribute and rare inside look at what is unquestionably part of the greatest eras of film (1932-1949). Thank you for posting this. Poor Judy died of cancer but had her own particular brand of eccentric honesty to the end.
Recently I watched "Born Yesterday" & Judy was very good, though the film wasn't very interesting to me. The other mentioned films & the characters: Margo Channing {"All About Eve"} & Norma Desmond {"Sunset Blvd"} have become iconic over time. "Born Yesterday" hasn't.
Thanks for commenting & I agree with your greatest era of film timeline. Perhaps a handful of 1950's films grew from talents of the '30s & '40s.
I've seen only one Tallulah Bankhead movie - Hitchcock's Life Boat. I bet you've seen it. It was an ensemble cast, but she and William Bendix really stood out.
Sometime, you might want to watch Born Yesterday again. It really is an incredible film, in my opinion. That's one of the things I love about films, or any other art form - our right to our own opinion as to whether we like it or not. Long live freedom of choice!
That is why I stated "Born Yesterday" wasn't very interesting to ME. Fortunately I bought the DVD as it is now classed as 'deleted stock' & I shall watch it again sometime. Broderick Crawford was one of the reasons I didn't like it. Also the crooked Nazi cross in the apartment's wallpaper design really pissed me off.
Has anyone else noticed that?
"Lifeboat" is a great piece of work & Hitchcock chose a great ensemble cast. John Hodiak was also a stand out, tacky tattoos & all.
@joycedgeworth On the set of "Lifeboat", the actors had to climb a ladder up to the water tank for the sea scenes. Tallulah was constantly reprimanded by Hitch for not wearing any underwear and distracting his crew. God Bless Miss Bankhead.
Oh my god judy is the cutest thing in the world.

That was a tough year Bette Davis, Gloria Swanson and Judy Holliday were all fantastic it would have been great had there been a three way tie!

Judy should have handed that oscar to either Bette Davis or Gloria Swanson
Grace Kelly should have handed her Oscar to Judy Garland
Cher should have handed hers to Glenn Close
Helen Hunt to Judy Dench.....

Enjoyed that. Judy had a genius IQ and felt that the dumb character held her back. So funny and sweet.
