I had a long 'speel' about what I should write next. But instead I'll just say this. If the world was so simple that we could just 'put down guns' we would all be for it. But the world isnt like that. Even if we are unarmed, they (Taliban) will continue to kill.. us and civilians.

Let me see... ummm, 6 million kids in school (including 2 million girls) no more public executions held on a daily basis in stadiums, the Afghan people want us there. There can be NO reconstruction in areas that have Taliban presence. Therefore the Taliban need to be removed. Negotiating with them doesn't work (shock) !
The Brits tried that in the town of Musa Qala last fall, the Brits left and soon after the Taliban turned on the deal and re-took the town. Use your heads, the Taliban would have killed many many thousands of people in the 5 1/2 years we've been there.
Part of the reason for PM Harper's latest visit is to attempt to dissuade Karzai from negotiating a peace settlement with the Taliban. Translation: even the Afghan people think its about time to put down guns and start a productive dialogue for peace. Also, your comment has nothing to do with the topic of the video.

michaels7: you're wrong. look at the wikipedia entry on jack layton. it's explained there. they lived in a co-op, and paid higher rent than the other tenants. both were cleared of any wrong-doing.
