Am I the only one that really Doesn't like TJ's form? Obviously he makes it work, but from a coaches standpoint (high school girls coach) it just leaves so much to control. His arm isn't completely straight, he "muscles" it so hard, and snaps so hard. I will say it is smooth and works well, I guess I'm just a fan of a more standard style. :P
I don't care if it's taped or not. Indeed, I usually record stuff that I want to watch anyway, so I can watch it when I want and zoom through the commercials. That aside, I usually enjoy the bowling and watching my favorite players.
Yeah, the hambone thing is rather silly. But, seems like a lot of folks in the crowds like it, so that is a good thing, isn't it?
Christ almighty, stop hating on Rob Stone. He was dumped by ESPN into a situation where he had little knowledge and no experience and I think he has handled it pretty well. He has learned the nuances of bowling pretty quickly and I find him to be very charismatic. And why do so many people care that he created his own term for 4 strikes in a row? It's no less ridiculous than "turkey." If he is the reason you don't like the PBA, you're beyond help.
@buffto perfectly said bro, people hating on Rob Stone for his goofy phrases are just rediculous and most of them are from the 70' and 80's when Stone wasnt present, so they think tv should still be the same as it was in the caveman ages when they bowled.............BORING
Just got Hammer's Taboo. I changed from a Storm T-Road. Definately more hook on the back end. Everybody throws their ball different so it doesn't matter who throws what, only how you throw yours.
As far as bowling being exciting...I love bowling for bowling not all the "crowd noise" and mumbo-jumbo hype. Aged 28 years it is a little different with me having Walter Ray as my inspiration and not a player like Rash or Pete Weber.
Another reason the show is not doing well this season... Tommy Jones' first shot of the 6th frame... put the dam camera where I can see the pin action. There have been others like this as well
My pet peeves which make me nostalgic for 1970s-1990s pba:
1. I hate the quick rack. They want that lumber liquidator ad to come down while we're still watching the pin action, I know, but it hurts my enjoyment of the shot.
2. Every time that ESPN drone shouts "Hambone!!" I want to beat him unconscious with a hambone.
3. I really miss the dignity and knowledge of Shenkel, Billy Welu, Nelson Bo, Earl Anthony (the few that he did color on). That ESPN drone debases things for me.
I agree with wolfman about the lack of excitement in the crowd but you can't blame the crowd themsleves. I was in the crowd for the Cheetah and it was crap. It was the first show i had been to and I got there early to get in line but there was no line! it's hard to get excited when there are like 30 people in the crowd. I was so disspointed. I was hoping it was going got be like the great shows we used to see on TV. I had tickets for all 6 shows but after the cheetah I did not go to the rest.
What i think they've done is modeled the PBA telecast on the poker, especially the WPT (World Poker Tour). They cut to Kimberly for bits and pieces, have asides on the players to generate stories, and do everything but show the bowling!
I agree with that as well.... perhaps next time (IF they do this again) they might limit it to no more than 4 players making the finals. That way you get to see more of each match....
Is it just me or am I the only one that does not feel excited anymore in terms of watching the PBA right now with the lack of a big crowd and the fact that right now, all of this is taped?
@Wolfman12395 Yeah if you watch stuff from the 90's and early 2000's there are huge crowds and the guys get into it. They make a cyborg comment about O'Neill but the entire production is kind of a snooze. The crowd looks bored, and the bowlers show zero emotion. I think it is dumb that they are already competing for next week by the time they can watch themselves on TV.
@Wolfman12395 On facebook, the PBA' s argument was that we were getting to watch more bowling now, because there were parts of 3 matches, and one full match. I'm not buying it. I don't feel like the PBA is listening to their fans, or to the players.
@Wolfman12395 I agree with you 100%. It's kinda like saying " Hey want to come over to my house and watch the Super Bowl I taped from last weekend?" Who wants to watch something that's already happened? I loved it when it was live and also when the crowd was allowed to cheer. Nobody wants to watch something that has been taped and that is why the rateings are also so low with the showing of the PBA tourneys.

@leopoldmozart , agreed, I hate "hambone". But with the way the pins fly around the quick sweep is a good idea.

Reasons why the show is no good any more;
1)Small crowd,
2)Playing music inbetween shots, WTF? why???
3) if someone left a spare some bell-end would say 3 6 10 or whatever. Why??
4)
