Sigh! This is sad. Every times American take something from other countries and make it their own, they make it WORST!! To name a few, "Ninja Warrior, Top Gear, Iron Chef, Japanese Game Show, etc..." Now free running? I enjoy it because It allows me to be free from all stresses and worries, now they have to make it into a competition? So now I have to worry who is better than me? Well I dun care I keep running, be free from all these madness like David Belle said "...to have fun."

I suppose it is inevitable that corporations will always capitalize on whatever captures the attention and imagination of the masses in order to make a buck or get their brand seen. The choice therefor lies with the athlete/artist wether or not he will involve himself for money, exposure or prestige. That said, I see freerunning as an artform with its roots vested in taking a step away from comformist and corporate society, and therefor praise anyone who rather does it for free self-expresion.

Sure free running is a way of life, but like all sports that started in the streets it turns into some sort of competition, and besides its a chance for athletes around the world to get together!

Parkour + Tricking (Street Stunts or flips, what ever you want to call it) = Free Running. Free Running is composed by 2 important things, Parkour and flips. Maybe it's not Parkour but Parkour it is also part of Free Running, remember that.

Gary stepped up to a FREERUN event to do Parkour. I'm not sure what he was trying to prove but he got owned and as a result, everyone assumed that he was crap.

I'd like to state that there are elements of his game that were good but he was naive (over-trained the night before the event and tore his hands to shreds) and his attitude was wrong (begged to be involved and then subsequently slagged the event off on the Irish forums).

Parkour and Freerunning as David Belle say must be dopne for ourselves not to please people. Competition are the opposite of the mentality of this sport. Think about it!

The thing is, the people who want to compete are not stopping you from enjoying parkour in a non competitive way. Just keep doing what you do rather than stopping your flow to pass judgement.

I don't see any realistic way of telling people who want to compete that they shouldn't, or can't, just because it doesn't fit with someone else's (ironically) rigid philosophy of what parkour is "supposed" to be.
