The programs used were the very old versions of Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects

After Effects has so many little features it's quite easy to get carried away when doing FX with it, I tend to use this program sparingly.

Both these programs have advanced since 2000, and these days look quite a bit different.

I'd just like to expand on the camera system used on Thomas, which may be of interest to you. With the production company, Clearwater, Mitton, LD Terry Permane and AD Steve Asquith developed what they called the 'Clearwater Periscope Lens System' - literally an upside-down periscope attatched to the camera (allowing the fram-of-refernece to get down to track-level), with lenses set up to allow very long depth of focus, allowing the engines and backgrounds to remain in focus at the same time.

The camera setup is basically how David Mitton did it but he specially designed the camera so the rushes were the right way up.

The video used version 4 Adobe After Effects, and Premiere 4.2, both programs have changed since 2000, and I believe After Effects is now version 7 and looks quite different on screen...hope this answers your question.

How do you make rubber dust?

Rubber dust is a product from attempts to recycle old car tyres, but to produce the dust you use heaps of energy, and the rubber needs to be separated from the steel within the tyre..the plant which made it was experimental and based in Sydney..rubber dust makes great little fireballs as well..Google 'rubber dust'
