  • I am playing Helena in my colleges production. watched this video to help with my character work. thanks!!

  • great job. I've always found this monologue 'tricky' but you did a splendid job

  • that was awesome! you are so talented :)

  • wow. that was really good! I'm using this piece for an audition next month and you have really helped me. Thank you :) and well done!

  • You are really good! Just wanted to point out, when she says 'Love looks not with the eyes but with the mind... So the boy love is perjured everythwhere.' (including the middle) she isn't 'realising' it, which is what you've done. She is reasoning with herself and mocking him. 'And therefore is love said to be a child; Becase in choice he is so oft beguiled' is her saying 'Demitrius' choice in women is childish and wrong. He should love me!'. Just saying.

  • Your really good:)

  • You are GREAT! Did you audition for a play? If so did you get the part cause you are Fantastic, you have helped me a ton!

  • i'm in yr 7 and auditioning for mid summers night dream, and this really helped, thanks!

  • im british and i thought you performed the monologe really well i might be doing this for an audition .

  • As to comments about my nationality and accent I am British. I am intruiged to know what I sound like, people seem to think I'm putting on an accent but thats just how I speak! lol

    Emma

  • Thank you once again for all comments! Good luck to all of you auditioning for parts!

    Emma

  • You are really phenomenal. Where are you from originally? I'm just curious because I'm looking for tips on how to put on a British accent convincingly.

  • this is great! im literally listening to this over and over again with the monologue in hand. auditions for a midsummers night dream is next week! im auditioning for helena.

  • Are you holding a speech? NO! You're doing a monologue where you attempt to create an air of inventing the words as you go along, not a freaking inspirational speech. And the music doesn't help. Just a bit of constructive feedback, would be cool if you had the guts not to delete this comment.

  • Thanks very much for posting this! I'm using this for my college audition and it helped me understand it at lot more :D

  • Skip the British accent. From being their myself, I can say that yours is not quite up to the standard. However, your acting was very nice and hand gestures lovely. You've also got a pretty face and a good closure for the monologue! Lovely!!

  • @LunaMoonStellaStar im british too and thought she did a great attempt!

    GOOD JOB, MISS

  • You inspired me to go for this part! Thanks so much! Wish me luck! :D

  • Good job! i have to do a cold reading from this play in a couple of weeks and this is really helping me!

  • thank you sooo much! i have an audition for Romeo and Juliet tonight and i chose this monologue, after already memoriezing another monologue...but when i played this over an over again i learned it in a day!! one day!!! thank you!

  • I thought it was a good monologue. Your accent really helped the believabilty of the character Helena. I would of liked to see you move around a little more. But other than that it was great.

  • @LoopyLara2k7 and how exactly is she "saying it wrong"? the words are right, and her emotions are helpful to interpret the meaning.

  • @artemis7an just giving constructive criticism, if she cant take it then she wont cut it being an actress.

i studied this monologue for a whole year and so i know that she didn't say some of the words correctly and she didn't show helena's true anger and passion for Demetrius. Also you have to take both the good and the bad comments into account when being an actress so you can learn and grow from them, so Emma should really stop deleting the bad comments. :)

  • @LoopyLara2k7 I'm all for constructive criticism and have received a lot of it on this video as you can see. I deleted your comments as they were just generally very negative. It is merely your opinion to which you are entitled! I too have studied Shakespeare for some 8 years now both in school and with several private tutors and this is my interpretation of it. I have also received positive feedback on this particular monologue from The Guildhall, LAMDA and The Oxford School of Drama.

  • good job! Lil of advice.... don't use a british accent unless it's your actual accent. If you used this for an audition piece the directors would find it "unprofessional" :) But seriously GOOD JOB! Your pretty good and Im not sure how tall u are but seriously you should consider modeling cuz you are drop dead gorgeous!

  • this is really good! i recently read midsummer night's dream in my english lit circle. it's my new favorite book :) great job!

  • very good, but I suggest trying to sound a bit more sad, what shes feeling is alienation and utter confusion about why her lover would just ditch her for her friend. But holy, your punctuation is exemplary! timing is perfect and natural, although i seem to be not really hearing the rhyming qualities this piece has . But overall very professional, and this is coming from someone who's done Shakespeare her whole life. I hope you keep acting, this was very lovely.

  • does anyone know how i could get hold of the music used in this video?

great job by the way emma! this was really helpful for my performing arts :D

  • I was cast as Helena for Midsummers Night dream, and I think your acting is pretty amazing. If you keep up the good work, you'll be cast main character in any play you audition for. You go girl!

  • I am doing this for my English Class, you have HELPED ME SO MUCH.

    You are very talented.

  • This is really well performed. x :)

  • Honestly, this is one of the best(maybe best) performances of this on youtube. If you look at the others, this is a hard one to emote with because its a lot of ramblings about love. :( I'm doing this for a college ausition tommorrow and I'm nervous so I was scoping out videos. I thought you did a fantastic job!

  • This has helped me so much for a project in class, we have to read in front of the class this scene from Helena and we have an acting coach coming in to help us with expression in our voice and movement, and this really helped! Your really good too!!!

  • please do more you are fantastic!!!!!

  • Thank you for the comments. Sorry for the slow response as I'm only just working out how to use my account!

  • does anyone know where I can get the background song?or a similar onE?GREAT PERFORMANCE!

  • @AnAoHaCHAN14 Hi, I'm going to email the person who put the clip together to find out what the music is for you. Should have an answer in a few days :)
