  • you used win xp pn you server ?

    why not vista ?

there are better for a server pc

  • It not regular xp its Tiny XP Pro, stripped down to like 120mb, so i did it at the time to avoid gobbling up resources. Not to mention this was filmed over a year ago, and i still would bother with vista as a server. Just had to upgrade the drives in it, totallying 4 TB now :)

  • hehe iv got that case and its quite heavy.

  • what was going wrong when your where trying to boot it up.

  • hmmm look like u was having aabit of difficult getting it to run, and gd job btw :)

  • how much did the case cost?

  • this does look cool, as long as theres air conditioning and caffien haha :P

  • :D u look like u have a fun job.

  • im jelous, i wish id have saved up for longer and got a p182 rather than this crappy akasa zen now.

  • im thinking about what i want to do for a career and i wanted to know what u do, and if it is fun? i want to do some kind of support technician i think but im not sure. it would really help if u could tell me about ur job. it looks like it is really laid back, and that is what i want. i mean ur building a pc during work and taking support calls it looks awesome.

  • Yeah, im an IT Manager and Software engineer, its a laid back environment, but i do this all day and am multitasking it with stuff off camera you dont see, yeah im on the phone alot during the video. Tis a good job :)

  • lol, nice very cool video!

  • Damn man you are the motherfucking Beast!

    5/5

    very good video

anyway all of your videos are so cool!

  • HAHAHAH wallabing

damn you are the god :D xD

And god damn you are so fucking right!!

  • cool video well done! i have problems with mine i built it all right then i turned it on, and it said install boot disc so i put a vista install disc in the drive and then it all went wierd and suddenly it said hardware failure and turned of.

  • Damn, it seems like building a Server is harder than building a PC, is it?

  • Good job. I have a black P182. Wire management was a pain in the ass because my 8800gts blocked the 24 pin power connecter from reaching the motherboard! I had to do one hell of a cable routing technique.

  • vede nice

  • Is it safe to assemble the motherboard while on a carpet?

  • Its not good practice, its generally considered a risk to static electricity damaging delicate componants, but ive done my fare share of under table repairs on machines and ive never been a victim of carpet induce static damage.

  • Well done. But the movie cut short just as you were loading the drivers.

  • Yeah sorry abou that, i didnt film much after this as i had to site it, and did the rest over RDP

  • it's so fucking cool that humans have evolved from opening nuts with rocks and wielding sticks to building advanced machines that can reach outer space.

  • i still open nuts with rocks, best way!

  • hot glue?

  • Yup, fixes just about anything, inlcuding SATA connections that have been stretched just that little bit too far.

  • good vid

  • Damn lol that is a very nice case. Is it the Antec P182 or P180? And no offence but it would probably take me shorter time to build lol. But very nice computer.

  • I was at work taking support calls hence why i disspear several times, engage several people in conversation and am on the phone a fare bit too. Hehe, though it wernt no race.

  • That costs $180 CAD....wow, I'm getting Antec 900. Was gonna get P182.

  • I have a question why the heck would u spend 400$ on that case?????? lol. My cm Stacker 831 is the best case and its only like 200

  • i only approved your comment to tell you that your an idiot, this case cost £65, prob $120, and it is one of the sweetest cases out there. im not gunna have my most valuable system housed in some nasty cheap bastard case from ebay.

  • Is there available options for good airflow in this case? Thinking of getting one. Please tell some pro's and con's if you please.

    cheers

  • There is 3 Fans, all silent running, one is the large fan at the back of the case for extraction, the second is at the bottom in front of the PSU and behind hard drive caddy1,i added an optional extra fan in front of hard drive caddy2.Thermally -excellent,acoustically - excellent (tri layered panels, rubber gromits & compartments),my only gripe is that the cables from the PSU (located at bottom)by standard would not reach the mobo connections.I made up an extension and routed it around the case.

  • Ok, thnx

  • Cool Video, 2.5tb? Whoa thats a crazy machine, what do you use it for? We built one recently but only 1tb for our Radio Station... What exactly do you have in that beast?

  • Its my media server, whuch firstly hosts my photo website (25,000 photo databse kinda thing) then it holds my media content, every single thing ive ever downloaded, hundreds of movies, every epeisode of nearly every show, every cartoon, every stand up show, litterally everything. I then stream it via network to ma 42" tv via XBMC

  • I was wondering what program do i use to use fast forward effect just like this one?

  • what programs do i use to make fast forward effects just like this 1?

PS. how long did it actually took to build it? Im going to build it on my own soon too...

  • Theres many softwares you can use, ulead video studio has most the stuff i need. I built this at work and was on and off taking technical calls all day but id say a server with this much stuff about an hour 2 hours after install. I spent a bit of time making cables for this and routing them very carefully round the inside of the case.

  • That is the biggest hard drive I've ever heard of.

  • Its obviously spread out over many drives, i now have 6 hard drives in there at about 2.5 TB, all NAS holds alot of downloaded media

  • Oh, I've heard of 700GB drives and thought that there might be a custom one that big. It would have to be huge though.

  • the case is called aztec i have 1 but its black

  • yeah the case is nice nothing wrong with it, i have never seen this kind before thats why i asked

  • Google it, they are great, i got it coz it was silent, not only has it got tri layered aluminum paneling, comparmentalised, but they have installed rubber gromits anywhere that a hard drive or optical drive screw in, and anywhere that metal touchs metal is also lined with rubber, all vibrations, all noise is gone. plus its termally designed to run cool too. I recommened it.

  • What was the problem from 5:10 to 8:30?

  • The Entec case has a moduler hard drive caddy at the bottom, it stressed the SATA cable and the connector cracked, the connection was made but not completed and stalled the Bios Post, was a fun problem to diagnose. used the glue gun to secure it and cable tied it to the hdd power connector which is more robust.

  • Dude, what kind of case is that? it looks to diffrent :S

  • Antec 180, Its massively different to standard cases, thus came a few extra obsticles. The hardest to overcome was the psu being located at the bottom meant that the cord would not stretch to the mobo connector, had to make an extension at work, enough to reach and also allow me to channel it. sweet case though

  • Song names? Plus nicely done video.

  • There all funeral for a friend

    First: Oblivion

    Second: Great wide open

    Third: ? not sure :/

  • After setting this up at home, i set it to host my website, act as a nas server to hold all my media downloads, front my 35k track multi room music system on the screen too. Its running like a dream, been running nearly a year since i did this vid. Fault free. :)

  • a couple of hours, was working on it on and off. A long as you got all the parts a little bit of space, and a little time and obviously patience :P

  • lol, tell me about it, no one likes a nasty little gremlin popping up when your all excited about making something, especially when your filming it :) hehe

  • i have the same problem with mine

  • Glad you solved your proplem m8. Worst thing is not knowing whats wrong

  • Nice music, too bad u cant do this while workin in real life lol

  • took a while was there a problem with your bios? lol i hate waiting for xp to install takes ages

  • It wasnt XP this time :O The Entec case has a moduler hard drive caddy at the bottom, it stressed the SATA cable and the connector cracked, the connection was made but not completed and stalled the Bios Post, was a fun problem to diagnose. used the glue gun to secure it and cable tied it to the hdd power connector which is more robust.

  • i like your poster on the wall

  • what song is this ?

  • Funeral For a Friend - Into Oblivion :)

  • ever heard "its still a pentium"? sounds just like this song.

  • YOU think they suck others may like them.

  • lol ok, emo :P

  • Very Nice! Does anyone know what songs are playing?

  • great vid! i would of put 4 gigs though lol

  • and if i had the money, id put 16 gigs in mine. of course vista can only use 4 gigs so osx would use te rest. yeah, we can all dream...

  • I run my Nas server, webserver, email server, my multiroom music system(which i wrote myself)and use the screen as a 19" picture frame when not in use, all on 2gb with tiny xp (a stripped down version of xp),only people thinking in 1 dimention are keen to stuffloads of ram in and insist on vista, currently the shitest OS available, thinking that ramming more in instantly makes it better, usually people who fuck all out the requirements of software on hardware.

  • i know, i dont have vista, or want it, and i only have 1.5 gigs so im not a ram-a-holic, but it never hurts to run 16 gigs if you can. also, xp cant even do 3 gigs. if you didnt notice i use osx which suports 16 gigs(posibly 32)

  • Well you say it never hurts but its pointless putting more in than you could ever use, this system litterally does everything, its not a pc i work on, it serves, its my server. Its spec reflected its purpose,i do alot of graphics, vid editing, rendering, now that needs everything you can throw at it.But again spec reflects purpose.Sorry to go off on one before, had loads of "ram o holics" on here telling me i should build to their spec and then listing rediculous componants in a poor attempt to impress.

  • Just goes to show how little people know.

The 64 bit version of Vista and XP can do 8gb.

qwertymac93 you by the look of it are 14/15? Keep your mouth closed when talking to an adult.

  • Is this correct please as soon as possible correct me if i have made an error.

  • I am building my 2nd comp next week.

  • im building my new comp soon, ....

  • Is that case closed? If so thats why it had trouble posting. Clearly a case of tempting the fates cause you'd just have to open it up after your first boot anyways :P

  • The case being open has nothing to do with post failing (no intrusion detection), i reported earlier that it was stress on the SATA cable going into the moduler hard drive bays at the bottom stressing the connector out cracking it. Fixed it with a glue gun and cable tie.

  • lol I ment in a murphys law way.

  • where did you learn to do this stuff

  • Nice pre-9/11 NYC pic ^^

  • Thanks Dude, big New York fan, love the place :)

  • Did your computer start right up on the first try, because my build won't start at all, I turn the power on and nothing happens, I've checked to see that it's all connected and everything is properly connected, I have no idea what's wrong.

  • No Power at all? (PSU, MOBO, CPU) Check Connections, check psu, remove harddrives one at a time, change memory / Remove memory (does it beep without), change processor, Check motherboard jumpers.

    Is the board new?

  • Everything is new, I ordered all the individual parts. I checked connections, checked the power supply (I tried a different one to make sure it wasn't the power supply). I made sure everything was compatible. Do you have msn messenger because I could really use your help.

  • send me your msn ill see what i can do :)

  • wow he is soo fast

  • hi ! great ! but what is the song during your video ? and the band please ?

  • lol I was wondering the same thing, but I found out. The band is "Funeral For A Friend" and the song name is "Into Oblivion"

  • i hav a motherboard (sum old asus 1) and i got it frm my old computer but it wont boot a cd (my os system)! wat shud i do?

  • Im just in love with the Antec case P182 right? :]

  • Me too, its such a great case, everything from rubber grommits, to tri layered alumium panels, everywhere that metal touches metal is lined with rubber and even the compartments are cool. Had to make some cables up though, the one from the psu to motherboard was a toughy to make

  • wot happoned there the BIOS crashed

  • The bios didnt crash, The Entec case has a moduler hard drive caddy at the bottom, it stressed the SATA cable and the connector cracked, the connection was made but not completed and stalled the Bios Post, was a fun problem to diagnose. used the glue gun to secure it and cable tied it to the hdd power connector which is more robust.

  • the one u hav is the Gun Metal Black right? cause thats the only P182, he has a P180

  • i just finished putting a computer together to! only when i start it up it says "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" does that mean that i need an OS cd?? Some one HLEP ME!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thats perfectly normal. Yes you need a boot CD, generally a XP or Vista CD/DVD will work, make sure you set your CD/DVD as primary boot drive, if you do that itll start up the setup wizard which will allow you to format your Hard Disk and continue to setup your operating system.

  • ok thx! maybe i have the wrong vista cd. i have a vista anytime upgrade dsisc. and i think for that you need an OS already instaled. NOW I NEDED TO GO BUY A XP CD.

  • Yeah there are alot of vista "UPGRADES" floating about, most of which are useless from scratch setups. Hope it goes well, let me know how you get on. Cheers

  • You spent a long time on the phone.....LOL

  • yeah was at work, taking technical calls, soz missed it on the editing.

  • Id buid my own over a Dell but they make pretty robust office computers so id imagine thier home setups would be quite tight.

Ime Running a Gforce 8800 GTS to power several monitors, beast of a GC. Just baught a 42" TFT TV, i have not yet dared to plug it into my PC, scared of losing my TV to my PC. If ya can get another 20" monitor have at least 2 :)

  • yea im getting a new dell they said 6-10 days now, 20" dell LCD whatever.

    -intel core 2 duo 2.4GHz

    -2GB ram

    -250GB rom (dont matter much)

-pretty bad graphics card, intel 3000 crap something.

    -windows vista home premium

that covers it =] cant wait , pretty excited

  • now time for a new monitor!

  • LOL, was in the workshop not on my office, currently running a 19 TFT touch panel on this unit (being a media server) and a triple screen setup on my main rig, but well pointed out ;)

  • cool vid one of my sata power connectors split too but i fixed it

  • You seem to have been having trouble getting your computer to POST? what has going on?

  • You have a good eye, was waiting for someone to spot that, the connector on the Sata drive had split very slightly and the connections wernt being made evenly across the pins on the drive. Was tricky to track down as everything had worked, even detected the drive in the bios :s, if you watch closely you see me glue gun and tie the connectors back to good health.

  • ah okay, glad you were able to fix the problem.

  • hey bigboyce i realy dont know much about computers but im curious, do you think i would have to formatt my harddrive in order to install a motherboard and cpu, the harddrive has windows xp on it. thank for your help

  • Its not impossible to change the entire hardware backbone underneith a Windows XP install but it can be problematic, especially for a novice. Chances are you would have a nasty bluescreen problem on first boot which can be hard to fix. If your XP is legitimate it will detect the hardware changes and demand immediate re activation.

I would recommend you backup your data, or better yet get a seperate Hard drive reinstall everything again, with all your new drivers, copy back your data.

  • oh and by the way,

    nice video.

  • Hey i got some comments, hi guys, the first song is Into Oblivion from Funeral For A Friend, the next 2 are from the album, "Tales dont Tell Themslves"

The video was just done with a powered stationary camcorder over several hours of me coming and going through out the day, cut out the gaps and sped it up by 20 times, got it to under ten minutes and upped it on youtube, voila.

  • Thanks mate

    take care

  • What's this song and how do you make a video like these? Like it's GIF picture-ish...
