@Eejhunator It would...if it was able to actually come in contact with the surface. But there's countless shields/barriers blocking the round, it would do considerably less damage than it does to the Covenant ships, but it would hurt though.

Nope, MAC are all in all pretty horrible weapons. They are just like the cannon balls of the future, simply piercing through the target without doing significant structural damage (unless they hit something important of course). Even if a super mac round would be able to survive the fall through the atmosphere without losing too much of it's mass (and thus energy) and hitting a target without shields, it would just pierce through it and generate a big crater on the surface.

I think it's funny that in Halo 2/ODST, a slipspace drive causes an EMP and almost wrecks a city, but when a half-destroyed cruiser slips in, nobody really mentions any of that.

Those frigates each fired one of their mac guns and one ship fired twice. They were probably thinking that any more than 1 round would be over kill and based on their current condition were in no place to be "wasting" mac rounds. Thats my 2 cents feel free to debate.

In the books the master chief nearly dies by a brutes hands, in First Strike, because hes being choked, he only survives by using his shield as a weapon. In Halo: The Flood (Story of Halo 1) he nearly dies because of an infecter that got thru his visor... Cortana killed it by charging the shields.

So the chief really DOES rely on his shielding more than he should.

98scollin- the cutscene is called "Monsters" and I agree w/ u 100%.

Halovivec- the covenant made a slipspace JUMP in Halo 2, never opened up a portal, as the Foreruner ship did in this scene.

BTW- is the Floos controlled covanent capital ship that slips in at the end of this scene supposed to be the "Truth and Reconcilation" from Halo 1- "The Covenent are terrified that the Flood will repair the ship and use it to escape from Halo!"

The cutscenes were always my favorite part of the game. They were done so well in every Halo game. I'm a PC gamer, so I don't own an xbox 360, but I have played through Halo 3 on my friend's 360. I'm going to wait for Halo 3 on PC, but I really wish they would hurry up and FINISH THE MOVIE. I hear it's currently stalled at the moment, but might resume.

I like the original E3 2006 Trailer rendition of this cutscene much better. It had an entirely different tone, and really gave a feel for the immense scale of the Ark Portal.

I have a feeling the original trailer was created before the location and concept for the Ark changed. Supposedly, the E3 Trailer was to be the ending cutscene of Tsavo Highway, with the UNSC breaking the Covenant AA lines and entering the portal (this cutscene) to be the ending of The Storm, which it later became.

They probably wouldn't have had the time anyway, but, I think they should have rammed their ships into the Dreadnought.

I mean, after they hit it and see it didn't do anything, they just sit there and stare at the pretty (possible galaxy ending) light. To them, they were about to die anyway, so they should have tried the last thing they could think of.

Like I said, they probably wouldn't have had time to hit it before it activated, but they didn't even move.

Well, the Ark activates an EMP blast that deactivates all tech around the blast zone, and the ships were one of them.
