The difference between eddie and jimmy page or hendrix, is they played guitars the way they were sold,,,,,, eddie took apart the guitar, and created a sound all to his own,,, which every guitar player after him, tried to copy. (see Randy roades for example A). Before eddie, it was, this is the guitar, what can it do,,,,,, eddie made it , this is the guitar,,, this is what I want it to do. big difference. his speed of play has nothing to do with it,,,,,, its his difference is sound and effect
without EVH there would still be alot of great styles and techniques for electric guitar.. theres more to the world thanthat shredding finger tapping crap that sounds like a whole bunch of noise half the time
Because he's done a hell of a lot more for the future of guitar than they have. He pretty much perfected the art of shred, he gave us high gain amps, solid effects, so many other things. The first to popularize tapping, tap harmonics, hammer ons and pull offs, first to mix a gibson wit ha strat. I could go on forever.
I learned it by ear, but a few people have asked me to tab it out for them. I don't like doing it because I play it different than Eddie does, and I don't want to throw people off.
haha well of course someone did it before lol. I was impersonating the King lol. It was all in good fun. I never claimed to be better than eddie by any means
to be honest, the mean street intro in this video sucks, but its not too hard, its very easy to learn. I didnt practice at all, I just got up and played.
i love all styles of rock guitar for the most part, but i think jimmy page, eric clapton, jimi hendrix, jeff beck, david gilmour, stevie ray vaughan, eddie van halen, tony iommi, joe satriani, steve vai, yngwie malmsteenm, just to name a few, were pretty revolutionary in their respective styles of music. even though there are plenty more of great guitarists that i can't even begin to think of right now, everybody after john petrucci are pretty much mindless metal head/punk drones.
i love eddie, but i don't think he is the most innovative guitarist. he is one of the biggest rock pioneers for rock guitar, but not the most innovative. i would say jimi hendrix over eddie. he basically invented rock soloing.
Also, Eddie Van Halen is THE last pioneer of guitar. Without Eddie we wouldn't have Malmsteen, Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai, etc etc.. who all suddenly became shred masters after Eddie stopped turning his back during his solos.
have i heard of jeff beck? i love jeff beck. and i guess i can agree that he is the last pioneer for guitar, he basically started the whole shredding epidemic in metal, especially during the 80's. not that shredding is bad or anything, but i think guys like malmsteen or michael angelo batio tend to ruin music sometimes. as much as i love them and their neoclassical music, they are too repetitive, have mindless sweep arpeggios, and no feeling. guys like eddie and steve vai had it.
sweet man ur goin too?! thats so awesome...maybe ill see u there....hahahahaa....i wouldnt know it if i did though...since i have no idea who u are....hahahahaaha
ur great man. keep the real music alive!!! hahaha. but u did kind of overdo those whammy bar pinch harmonic scream things in the beginning. i heard like 5 of them....
my friend that was the most sickest solo but you cant beat eddie on a solo run no one can
