    The materials could have been done better for something made in 2008.

    (Still better than what I can do though.)

  • im guessing this is anime style 3D made by a western modeller.

  • I can tell you used a drawing for the model reference.

    And you need to work on your drawing skills. It sounds harsh but its the nicest way I can put it. The body propotions are all off and the face looks odd. It's better to model from a photo reference and then stylize the proportions afterwards.

  • 4 minutes is too much 1:50 minute is pushing it, cut this down. Your bumpmap is insane and out of control.... At ID software we wont watch your entire reel if it doesn't grab our attention in the first 8 seconds. Keep working and good luck in the future!!!

  • people stop being judgmental this video is 3 years old so this reel could be better now that softwares are more improved

  • @CariagaXIII It's about the thought process and skill. Software is just a tool. A disproportionally modeled face won't be fixed by the latest and greatest software.

  • @ElectrofilmsENT yeah its a tool but there are tools that work dedicated on a specific job faster than using only one software like 3ds max for modeling wherein you can actually model topology better in zbrush or bryce for landscapes

  • @CariagaXIII That is absolutely true, but I think people are speaking on the reel's visual merit alone. In this case, if 3Ds Max was used, it probably wasn't the best piece of software to be used for this particular project. Zbrush was available at the time also. But, if you're modeling skills aren't up to par, zbrush, maya, or houdini wont help you very much.

  • I LOVE that you have Dreamtheater as you music, but for a 4 minute reel, you should have 4-5 characters. Also change the bg to a 5% gray or its too hard to see.

  • Comparitively, bodies are much easier to model than faces. I think you did the best you could at the time and if that's true then job well done. I'm sure by now, 2 years later, you're much better.

  • muy buen modelando, lo unico que no me gusto mucho es la forma de la cara y la nariz esta muy triangular y plana. la animacion del caminado se ve extraña, parece que le pesan las bubbies XD.

    Pero en general esta excelente man y espero que no te desanimes con mis comentarios. Saludos

  • turn down your normal map on the helicopter it is a bit to strong and on the female character which looks amazing you dont give the viewer time to see the wires and wires are so important!
