  • So, can you use the Extended only between Macs? If so than I am fine. Or do you mean one comp?

  • thank you very much, this video helped me a lot,

    thanks

  • hello anyone please i need help !

i did open my sky box and remove the hard drive but it won't recognize on my disk utility

    anyone can help please ?

    thanks

  • thanks dude. sucks about the limit though

  • Its stuck on unmounting disk.

  • When I follow your video step by step, it fails. Disk Utility tells me that there was a error, that it could not unmount the disk to format it. Any suggestions? Thanks

  • Yes yes yes yes yes thank you so bloody much this was doing my head in not being able to copy things to my hard drive thanks

  • How about the windows NT file system, what does this do?

  • thank you thank you!!!! :)

  • In response to the video, if there are files currently on the HDD, this will then erase all the data currently on the HDD. Is there a way around this? are we able to format the hard drive and keep all the files currently on it?

    thanks

  • @timmiiV Unfortunately, as far as we know, formatting a drive requires the contents of the drive to be deleted. We haven't found a way around it yet.

  • @Electrorevs thanks mate

  • What if it is already set on MS-DOS(FAT)? Should you just erase?

  • I wish you had shown how to do it for Mac OS Extended (whether Journaled or not), because I am getting erase errors when I try to use that. I can ONLY do it as FAT. It's a WD My Passport Essential SE.

  • @kphag We will try to get a video for you as soon as possible with a similar hard drive as the one you mentioned.

  • Great video, thanks!

Is there any way to do this without erasing what's already on the on the hard drive? Essentially i'm trying to add something from my Mac to this HD and it wont allow me to (this HD is near full and don't want to erase it).

  • @kylestenson Unfortunately, as far as we know the HDD must be completely erased in order to change it to a compatible format.

  • @kylestenson im having to copy it off my harddrive onto my mac desktop taking 2 hours then erase it and copy it all back :/

  • great video it helped me ALLOT! now i can swap my files between my MBP and PC (y)

  • Really helpful video guys, thanks for the advice (Y)

  • tahnks a lot! the best one!

  • Great video guys - Thought I was going to have to spend fortunes on a new Hard Drive!! Managed to save 200GB of work when I changed from PC to Mac.

  • At exactly 1:05 where your mouse is, that's all gray for me..I can't seem to be able to change the format. I'm running on lion right now and the HD cover says "Requires formatting for MAC OS X Tiger ,leopard, or snow leopard." Does that completely exclude lion from being compatible? Thanks

    -Brent

  • @futuref22pilot NEVERMIND! I figured it out! Thanks!

  • @PJMAN2952 When formatted into the FAT32 format you can only transfer files smaller than 4GB; you can still fill up a 2TB hard drive.

  • does this mean i can use this on a mac and pc when ive partitioned it? i am transfering files from my mac to give to someone who has a pc.. please help.

  • @tomplain Once it is partitioned into the Fat32 format you can use it with both Mac and PC.

  • why doesn't it work on my macbook pro???! it keeps saying could not unmount disk!!

  • Thanks! I didn't realise it could be this easy.

  • Haha....'inappropriate movies"

  • Thanks! But what if the external hard drive I have already has stuff from my PC on it and I want to use it for both my Mac and PC? I've been told I have to unmount it on my Windows PC first, but I have no idea what that means! Please help! Thanks!

  • hey man thanks you save my day,,,

    very clear video

  • This is the fastest and clearest video explaining this process good job!
