@XxLeurxX The position that the metal returns to must be "set" at an elevated temperature. When you deform it at a lower temperature, and then reheat it, it "remembers" what its original shape was and returns back to it.
My materials lecturer brought some of this stuff to class... looked like an innocuous length of wire then she dropped it in hot water it spelled out the word "HOT" haha
maybe they cant use it in jet engine cus of the atmospheric pressure and heat because I think memory shaping alloys can solve the problem of scramjet being used at sub hypersonic speeds so that they wouldn't have to use another propultion system with the scramjet to get it to work interesting maybe they even done it already
This alloy may be used to make flaps for aircraft wings in the future. The only problem now is that it's not very reliable. It may not worked once over a thousand times.
@slaugh84 Already in the process of design. Got a fender bender? Just take it through a car wash and the heat from the carwash would repair all dents.
And this, is the secret of the transformers.

Cut the wire in half, stick both pieces in hot water, watch as the pieces magically come back together and fuse, explode in amazement.
