because it was his name ... he always used the name rey mysterio jr untile he went to the wwe. Rey started in mexico under his uncle guidance. His uncles name is REY MISTERIO (NOW REY MISTERIO SR). To avoid confusion with his uncle and still tribute his uncle, he used the name Rey MYSTERIO JR. But in wwe.. they didnt want to use the name for whatever reason, i mean he isnt a kid anymore. Chavo was also Chavo Guerrero jr.
