Looking to Buy this Camera, (I haven't finished the video so it may answer my question) does it have an electronic view finder, and is that a problem in any way? Also whats the best price yoou can get this for, because it's different everywhere I look?

@dingo27mobile For movies, the GH-1 is far superior than the 550d and d5000, by far....

GH-1 offers 50Mbit firmware, 28-280mm prime lens and autofocus for movies. (lens is more expensive than body).

For me, it's the perfect machine, for stills and movies. Obvisously, i shoot more videos than stills!

@oyapon i did not quite understand part with 50Mbit... but still, its more expensive than canon, and if lens are more expensive... It looks quite interesting, but i am 95% for 550D.

Well, here's my point. For what I see, I'm pretty sure Canon SX20 or Pana FZ35 would perform better as a video recorder if you make use of the long end of the lens. Autofocus looks faster and, thanks to CCD there is not any wobble effect, which makes footage unusable. The pros for GH1 would be, of course, better low light performance and a "real" EVF. My concern: the trend goes towards CMOS and I don't think this horrible wobble effect being fixed in the near future. Will SX30 or GH2 use a CMOS?

Beautiful!  My gh1 will be here in a day or two... can anyone point me to a tutorial as to what process I can use to get the best quality video out of imovie '09? I'm aware of not moving the camera too fast and some of the low light issues, I'm just not too clear on all the mjpeg/avchd/codec/wrapper stuff. Thanks!

GH1 beat any dslr for video cause it has continous auto focus and much silen auto focus noise from the kit.

7D and 5D will beat Gh1 in still image with (manual focus) but when it move it will see more jello effect than gh1.

Flip screen in Gh1 and build in stereo mic you don't find in dslr. Also mention the weight of GH1 is about 60% lighter than 7 or 5d.

i don't think video is better if you ask video expert. first you only to mov format which use 3 times more space than avchd, 12 minutes limit of video, and more jello effect at movement object, and the heavy weight might not suitable for some people. picture no doubt is better in 5 and 7d. also gh1 build in mic is far superior than any dslr.

Its not really to expensive. The GH1 comes with A 14-140 lens and the other brands has 18-55mm lens. If you buy a Nikon D5000 or Canon 500D with a 18-200 lens the price is almost the same.

If videos had any priority for me, the GH1 would be my favourite, but so far the E-30 is doing well enough for me

The quality is excellent but the price is just too high. For the $1500 that you have to pay for the GH1, you can buy a G1 and a nice HD camcorder and have money left over. I know there is a convenience factor with having one device that does both but that just seems too high a price to pay for that convenience. Once the GH1 comes down to around $1000 I think it will be much more viable in the market.

It's a tough decision between this or Olympus EP-1.
